Chereads / A Song In The Wind / Chapter 7 - Chapter 6

Chapter 7 - Chapter 6

Other than a few mishaps with pickpockets and cranky people, the day ended, and the streets filled with even more people. Around this time, there were more locals than tourists.

The townspeople, like me, had always been sensitive to the sun. We weren't sure why this happened, but there were rumors that we all descended from the sun and refused to go back, which is why we burned easily.

Sure. Make up stories and ignore genetics.

During the night, it was a showcase for the visiting people, but during the night, friends and family gathered and had fun together—like one big family.

Just before the new day, we gathered and waited for the sunrise. People set up food for everyone to enjoy, kids chase each other, and everyone has a laugh.

I watched from a distance and made sure there was no one suspicious or dangerous around when I felt a tug from my shirt.

I looked down and saw a boy with big eyes staring up at me. He tugged my shirt again, harder this time.

I bent down and said, "Kid, you're stretching my shirt out."

"Can you help me?" He asked

I furrowed my brow. "With what?"

"Ready or not! Here I come!" A voice yelled out.

The kid looked up at me again. "Hide me."

I raised my cloak up, and the kid got the hint to hide in it.

A few minutes pass by, and a girl runs up to me.

"Miss, have you seen my friend?" She asked

"No. And I'm not a miss," I replied

"Are you sure you haven't seen my friend, pretty sir?" She asked again

I nodded.

"Then why do you have four feet?" She pointed at the smaller pair next to me.

I looked at the feet, then back at her. "Would you believe that I'm a dragon?"

She did not. Instead, she tried and successfully entered my cloak.

Now, I had two children running around me in my cloak. I just stood there, not moving.

They eventually got out, and the girl yelled, "I found you."

The boy looked back and frowned, "Sir, that was a horrible hiding spot."

He grabbed my shirt again and turned back around, "Come on. We'll teach you how to play right."

He dragged me out of the shadows towards the group of people.

*Who was the one who went along with my bad hiding spot in the first place?* I wondered to myself.

When we arrived at a group of kids, the little boy introduced them.

"These are my friends. That's Fry, Burger, Soda, and Nugget. My name is Meal." The little boy said

*Are they names, or is he ordering what he wants for lunch?*

The little boy scrunched his face at me for a while before saying, "Your name can be Milkshake. M'kay?"

*Oh! Their nicknames!* I figured out

The kids taught me how to play tag and showed me the best hiding spots. Which had the little girl, Fry, laughing her butt off.

"Why would you show off where your hiding spots are?" I asked Meal.

Meal's eyes widened, and asked, "Do you want to spend hours in the same spot? I don't think so."

I shrugged *Makes some sense*

Fry laughed even harder.

A woman picked up Fry and asked, "Stop messing with your friends. It's not nice."

"Who tells others where their hiding spot is?" Fry asked, still chuckling.

Fry's mother, I'm assuming, looked at me and smiled. "Thanks for amusing them for a while."

I smiled back. "It's not a big deal. I had fun."

Her eyebrows scrunched up as she looked closer at my face.

"Are you new here? I don't think I've seen you here before." She said

"Mhm." I nodded. "It seems like a nice kingdom."

"It really is. We just need a better king, and everything would be perfect." She shook her head

My heart dropped, "W-why would you say that?" I asked

She laughed. "Where do I even begin? He's never around. He's always out killing people and murdering families. And when he is, he's always cooped up in his castle, planning how he'll kill the next person. Kill, kill, kill. That's all he does. Nothing but trouble he causes."

I gave her a wiry smile, "Ah. I see"

No wonder they are so frightened of me. All they see me as is some kind of killing machine.

Apparently, the mother took my silence as a sign to keep talking.

"Now, I understand that he was only twelve years old when he took the role of a king, but the boy is nineteen now. He's had seven years to understand how to rule better."

I saw Fry getting bored of the conversation and wandered off back to her friends. I guess this isn't the first time her mother has talked about the king.

"And don't get me started on the past king! He was such a-"

"Shut the hell up." I interrupted as I glared at her.

She flinched and looked startled. "I just think…umm…"

"Say what you think you must about the current king, but leave the past in the past," I said and walked away.

There were only a few minutes before sunrise, and everyone had already gathered in the middle.

Just as I cleared the area I had been in, I saw a figure further from the others. When they saw that I noticed them, they scurried away from their spot. I decided to follow them behind a curtain for a theater play that would showcase after the sunrise.

I hadn't noticed the water bed above my head, which dropped right on top of it. My makeup ran down my face, and some got into my eyes, so I wiped away the makeup there.

I looked around for the mystery figure when I saw a water spear aiming for my head. The spear shot through the air, but as it came inches from my face, it evaporated into the air.

I released some heat waves around the area. I felt around twelve water soldiers near me and about three a little further off.

Six of the twelve jumped forward, and their swords started swinging at me. Although they were normal swords, I tried my best to avoid getting cut. If they had been element-equipped, they would have had a better chance of cutting me.

The three from further away started shooting regular bullets at me. I used the fire from within the bullets to control their vector. Using my arm, I directed them toward the six soldiers who sat on the sidelines. Three shots head-on and one shot straight through the heart. Two had also been shot but in non-vital areas.

They did their best to hold their weapons and ran straight at me.

Of course, I knew that they were purposely trying to get themselves killed. But for what reason?

Not wanting to fall into their trap, I avoided the sword swing and cleanly chopped off his hands. The man's scream pierced through the night. Thankfully, the townspeople were a bit far off, and the sound merged with the cheering of excitement.

I removed my cape, ripped a sleeve, and shoved it in the man's mouth.

I then burned the blood and skin from where the man's arms would be. The bleeding stopped, but the man had fainted from the shock.

I heard the sounds of gunshots once again and stopped the bullets from hitting, not me, but the man on the floor.

I waved my hands and shot the bullets right back into the guns, causing them to explode.

The people who held the guns cried out and came out of the shadows. Two guys cradled their bloodied hands, and a woman held her left eye in her hands. Literally, I guess the blast from the gun also blasted her eye out. The woman then proceeded to fall face first, and her fallen eye rolled my way.

The three people who stayed back decided to attack me. I didn't want to kill any of them, but they made it hard when they were literally throwing themselves onto my sword.

One of the women looked back and searched for something. I also searched for what she saw but looked back down at the woman when she started stabbing herself in the chest and then her throat.

I didn't move and only stayed still as I watched the rest follow her lead.

The curtains then dropped, and that was when one of the men who had his own knife stabbed through his throat let out a bloodcurdling scream.

Chaos ensued after that scream.

What was supposed to be cheers of delight and excitement ended up in cries of fear.

I watched with the rise of the sun behind my back as my loyal subjects ran in terror or froze with fear as they saw their king covered in blood and surrounded by dead bodies.

My gaze didn't hold onto anyone in particular but when my gaze swept across a familiar redhead, I couldn't remove my eyes. I watched my sisters eyes fill with horror as they gazed upon my cold, emotionless ones.
