My heart was beating loudly. Whether it was from almost getting caught or the man's beauty I wasn't sure. But imma go with the first option.
"You said a strong wind blew you, hmm?" The beautiful man asked
Forget his appearance! His voice! His cool and vibrant voice! Deep and soothing! I got chills!
"Then would you call this a breeze?" The man asked
The group next to me held onto whatever they could and prepared for what came next. The crowd yelled and scattered. They rocked the wagon as they moved to the side.
One moment. Two moments. Three.
"Uhh…yes…sir. I guess this is a nice breeze," the kneeling man finally replied.
I looked back to see the beautiful man staring at his hands with a mystified look. The woman, on the other hand, looked as if something horrifying had just happened.
Someone pulled me away from the cart, mixing into the crowd and into an alleyway.
I looked back as the wind picked up, followed by screams. The wind picked up and blew the two on the ground against the wall behind them, crushing the cart we had once hid behind.
I didn't want to know what would have happened to us if the wind picked up any sooner.
I ran back with the group. We ran in and out of alleyways. Far enough to get away from the other people.
"I thought we would get caught for sure!" Green eyes said
Blue eyes started laughing before saying, "That! That was a weakness!"
Red smiled as she sighed a breath. "Now we've just got to know what caused it."
She looked back at me. "Hey! You're still with us…" she gasped
The others looked over at her.
"What is it?" Green eyes asked her
She pointed at my face.
"His eyes! They changed color! They used to be violet!"
They looked back at my eyes.
"She's right! They're a hazel color now! How did you do that?" Green eyes asked
I shrugged. I don't think I remembered anything important.
"Let's forget about that for now. We need a way to get close to the king." Blue eyes said
"Like I said before-" Red started
"You are not seducing the king's wife for information," Blue eyes said
She pouted.
"Guards," Green eyes said
"I guess that's a good idea," Blue eyes said
"No! Guards!" Green eyes pointed towards some men walking past the alleyway.
We all stood still and silent.
Red took this chance to kick Blue eyes in the shin. He cried out and held his leg. She carried him towards the guards.
"Please! Help! My brother was hurt!" She yelled
Blue eyes laid limp over her shoulder, but his face was seriously pissed off.
"Let us see the injuries! Lay him on the ground!" A guard said
She heaved him onto the ground, and he went down with a thump.
"My back!" He yelled
She cried fake wails. "My brother!"
"Sister!" Green eyes yelled as he ran towards her.
She ran towards him with an exaggerated hug.
I slowly walked out as well. The guards saw me.
"This your sister?"
"That's…yes! My darling sister!" She cried and grabbed my sleeve.
"?"
"Well, it seems like they got a good hit. But other than a nasty bruise, he'll be alright," the guard said
"If only we could join the army! We want to fight against evil and fight for justice!" Red cried
"The army? It would be best if you signed up to be an officer-"
"No! We Uhh… promises our family we would get into the imperial army," Blue eyes said from the floor
The guards looked back at him, and he held his leg in his hands with puppy dog eyes.
"Imperial army? Kids, we've been training since we've been with the police. Where did that get us? Not even a corporal. We gave up that dream long ago." One of the officers explained.
"Then…can we become part of the general army?" Green eyes asked
The officers looked at each other before answering.
"Are you guys sure? It's not as hard as becoming an imperial but still difficult."
We nodded our heads.
"Then, all we can do is point you guys in the right direction and hope that they don't eat you guys alive."
They then explained the requirements to sign up, which involved being above the age of twenty, having an education in basic school subjects, and having other records of residency—all of which I wasn't sure I had.
"And don't even get me started on the requirements after you get in!" They laughed.
"What are they?" Red asked
"Being able to shoot a moving target from more than half a mile away, being able to fight without three days of eating, and a shit ton more things."
I felt the pressure from my group drop, and we thanked the officers. We headed back into the ally before they called out to us.
"Hey! Be careful out there! There has been word of terrorists lurking around the town! If you see anything, say something!"
We all stiffened a bit.
"Hopefully, those criminals are caught. Shouldn't you be chasing after the people who hit my brother, though?" Red said
"Ehh…we don't get paid enough to do that. I'm sure it was just a will of the moment. It shouldn't be a problem." One of the soldiers said
They walked off, and Red muttered, "No wonder they can't get promoted."
We walked for a while before green eyes asked, "What now? Are we still going to apply for the army?"
"Yes," Red determined
"How?" Blue eyes asked
"There are more jobs to the army than just being a soldier," she smirked
"No…"
"Yes. Get your aprons ready, ladies. It's time to get ourselves a job," Red said
