Darryl looked at his watch anxiously. It was 9pm. Leroy was busy concentrating on the traffic ahead of them.
‘I hope you know that checking the time every minute won’t get us there any faster. I am also missing her birthday. Why didn’t you tell me you were coming? I would have gone straight to the airport after work.’
‘Honestly, I didn’t plan on this. I didn’t know if I was going to get a flight back today. I barely managed to get a seat. By the time I realized I should have called I was up in the air.’
‘So, are you attending because it is your best friend’s sister’s wedding or it is because it is Raina’s birthday.’
‘Definitely because it is Raina’s birthday. My intentions are honourable. You can trust me on that.’ Darryl said this knowing that the full implications of what he was saying was not lost on Leroy.
