Chapter 4 - Chapter 4- Family Conflicts

"Hi grandma. Good evening ma" May greeted her Grandmother as she entered the house with Audrey while Felicia looked on like she didn't see nobody. It took some glaring from Mrs Baker before Felicia greeted their Grandmother in their native language

"Otöfe... ma" Felicia greeted.

(_Good__evening ma)__

"Dele Ö Di Nwam" Grandma asked

(_how are you)_

"Ö DI KÖ MA" Felicia replied.

(_I'm doing good)_

"How was sales Audrey?" Felicia asked her sister

"Good" Audrey answered then Felicia invited both of them to the dining table. Audrey dropped her backpack on the couch then quickly went to join the family at the table while Grandma walked at a slow pace to the dining table and sat down.

After the meal, the family dispersed to their rooms.

### Saturday, the Next Day @7am

Knock Knock

There was a loud knock on the entrance of the living room, Mrs Baker rushed to open the door to see two of her sister in-laws standing, she invited them in then the girls returned from the gym two streets away three hours later to meet their two aunts fully settled in the home, sitting comfortably on the couch. The girls immediately communicated with their eyes , in their hearts they knew already that the full squad has arrived. They quickly coordinated and greeted them.

"How are you doing girls?" Aunt Ifeoma asked the girls

"We're good ma" The girls answered in unison.

"And why do we always see these feminine faces? No males yet Mary. Are you sure you drank all those concotions we told you to drink?" Aunt Mabel asked Mrs Baker.

"Right. Aunty Mabel, those concotions that you got from the Idibia(_herbalist) is against our religion.. I mean our belief in Christ Jesus. So we threw them away" Mrs Baker answered while lowering her head.

"Look at this idiot. I'm saving your marriage" Aunty Mabel retorted. Felicia raised an eyebrow while Mrs Baker acted like she heard nothing.

"Yes. I just can't jeopardize my faith." Mrs Baker insisted.

"So, we're the sinners. You can as well throw us out of our brother's house" Aunt Mabel said yelling angrily.

Mrs Baker quickly kneeled on the floor and begged them

"No. Never. I can't do that. I can't judge you" Mrs Baker pleaded.

"Of course. It's our job to send you out of this house" Aunt Ifeoma said.

"Well, stand up" Aunt Mabel ordered.

Mrs Baker stood up immediately and asked if they wanted anything else.

"Well, where is our Mom? I hope you have kept her alive before our arrival. Well, I'm in such a great mood" Aunt Ifeoma asked

"I'm alive my daughters. My daughter in-law is not that bad, at least she has managed to accommodate me" Grandma came down the stairs.

"Does she have a choice?" Aunt Mabel said

"No, she doesn't" Mrs Baker sister in-laws and mother-in-law laughed together.

" Would you make some food for us? Or you want us to starve in our brother's house?" Aunt Ifeoma asked her mockingly

"Sure, she will. The only reason I have tolerated her is because of her obedience. Just let Mary be" Grandma said as they went to sit down in the dining area.

At the moment, Felicia was boiling with anger likewise May. They could take any words of their father's family blaming them for not being male. But insulting their Mom and all of those accusations were too much. Audrey was just so fed up with the situation that she went to her to shower while May and Felicia stood, with their hands on their hips.

"Mom, we really need to have that conversation and this is damn not dying down until I say so. I don't care how it looks like, all these has got to stop" Felicia said angrily

"Language. And no, we are not having this conversation now or in the future girls. Now go wash off that anger off your faces because girls, you are sticky and sweaty. Now, go you two. Will you go for Mummy?" Mrs Baker smiled later on but she was bothered by her two eldest daughters anger and involvement with the family issues then she rushed to the kitchen to make Semovita and heat the remaining soup. While the girls were having tea or coffee according to their preferences, (only May loved coffee )and bread, the others were having Semovita and Egusi soup including Mrs Baker.

Mr Baker opened the entrance door and met his two sisters. He was surprised although he could already sense the tension in the atmosphere so he went behind his wife seat and bent to peck her cheeks before he went to meet his sisters and hugged them.

" I hope you haven't brought or stirred up in my home since your arrival. How come I didn't get a message that you would be coming?"Mr Baker asked sacrastically.

"No brother. What are you saying? We love the girls and Mrs Baker very much" Aunt Ifeoma put on a fake smile.

"Sure. I don't get to hear this everytime. Do I darling?" Mr Baker asked his wife but before she could reply confidently with a smile, Aunt Mabel glared at her.

"Mabel, I will appreciate it if you stopped glaring at my wife" Mr Baker half yelled.

"I'm sorry brother. I don't know what came over me."Aunt Mabel apologized immediately

"Good enough or else I won't hesitate to send you out of my house" Mr Baker still yelled

"Sure brother" Aunt Mabel agreed.

"I was talking about the both of you okay and Mother, if you play a party to any of their mischief, I'm sorry but you might have to leave too" Mr Baker said then settled at the seat opposite his wife and asked his wife to serve him his tea which Mrs Baker did and asked him to take some slices of bread and place them on the plate she brought which he did and began eating.
