Audrey came back home from the boutique, well usually after school she goes to the boutique in order to help but never does anything truly. She came into the living room meeting her dad, her elder sister May, her mother seated on the couch. Her mother and father on one couch while her elder sister on another couch with her right hand on the armrest. She suddenly felt weird, clutching her bag which was just on her right shoulder hard then glanced at the clock and saw the the time was 9:30pm, everyone should have eaten dinner without her. She looked at her elder sister, hoping that her sister could help break the scary silence and give her an eye signal if the situation was really bad so she could know how to handle and approach the situation, well May was not any nice that night. Since she didn't want to say anything else, her Mom did the honours.
"Young lady, is there something you're not telling me that I need to know?"
"No Mom. Is there something I'm supposed to tell you?" Audrey wrinkled her face like she didn't understand what her Mom was getting at.
"That you're seeing George, my own daughter having a romantic relationship with a guy" Mrs Baker sprang to her feet afterwards.
"How do you know Mi Amor?" She said immediately, confused about how her Mom found out. Then after two seconds, she remembered she just called him with an endearment which confirmed the question her Mom asked. Her sister knew what that endearment meant and she was smirking at Audrey while the latter ignored her though she saw the smirk.
"Mi Amor? Is that what you call him? Audrey, I thought better of you" Mrs Baker was clearly disappointed and then sat down with her hands ruffling her hair and then looked at her husband to continue but Mr Baker was clearly more disappointed to continue
"Mom, I'm sure it's Miss Abigail who told you this but Mom, trust me it wasn't intentional" Audrey said bitterly, stomping her feet gently on the floor.
" Oh you're admitting that it's true. I can't believe you. What kind of relationship are you keeping with that George boy, darling relationships are not for... Mrs Baker was interrupted
"Not for me?" Is that what you want to say Mom? I'm sixteen Mom and I love George" Audrey outbursts.
Mrs Baker stood up again and slapped her twice across the face and Audrey's backpack fell on the floor "You love... You love... Michael hear my daughter. She loves a guy?? Audrey Baker, I need not to mention that you are in your last year of your senior high school and you need to be focused okay. You have exams coming up in the next three months and here you are telling your own mother that you love someone" Mrs Baker said crying, Audrey doing same still holding her cheek and then Mr Baker held her in his arms bringing her closer, calming her down saying it wasn't good for the baby.
"Take me away from here Michael and you're grounded until... I don't know. I don't want to see you with that Amor or George again and I will surely inform Miss Abigail and see his parents"
"Mom, George did nothing. All he did was to love your daughter and why are you seeing his parents? Do you want to see me unhappy?" Audrey screamed.
"Sure if it makes you think clearly. You are blinded by infatuations.. I don't know you anymore, it's like a spirit possessed you, Michael take me upstairs" Mrs Baker said, tears still falling from her eyes.
"May darling, get your sister her food and talk to her later on sweet" Mr Baker asked.
"Sure Dad" May replied. With May's response, their parents went to their rooms while Audrey picked up her backpack and went upstairs to her room to freshen up, leaving May and then phoned George, glad that her parents hadn't seized her phone yet.
"Hi baby" George spoke first excitedly. Audrey kept quiet for five minutes.
George panicked " Babe, babe can you hear me?"
" Sure. I was wondering how I would tell you...
"Tell me what? I was a bit scared before, please don't do that again.
"Yes love. My... Pa..re..nts found out about us. And they want to see your parents right away" Audrey stuttered
"Okay. That's okay. You shouldn't cry so much because of that. Somehow, we will get pass through this okay." George assured her
" Sure, babe. Okay, I will talk to you at school tomorrow hmm. I'm grounded at the moment. Bye" Audrey said and May came into Audrey's room with a plate of food on a tray and placed it on Audrey's bed then sat on the bed, tapped another part for Audrey to sit.
"Sis, I'm not hungry" Audrey complained as she sat down.
"You sure. Just a spoon, and you know if you are really hungry. And let's get talking. You love George...
" Sis, I thought you weren't going to crucify me " Audrey smiled a bit.
"Yeah. I'm not doing that. I'm just saying you've hurt our parents so badly, if Licia was here- she would be so mad at you. You've never for once mentioned George in our conversations, you clearly don't trust us. That's fine but what are you going to do because you have to sever ties with him else you'd be forced to, you just pick. Please eat or you'd fall sick and Mom will be so worried. I'll leave to my room, you need space to think umm, baby sleep tight and know that I love you very much" May said finally and kissed her sister fore head and walked towards Audrey's bedroom door and said:
"Can I have your phone baby? Mom said I should get it from you" May took the phone and went to her room. Audrey ate her food and locked her room as she didn't want to talk to no one and slept. In her parents room, Mrs Baker was unhappy and finding her difficult to sleep and Mr Baker was calming her down and cuddling her as they laid on the bed.
"Mary, you need to stop all of these. It's bad for the baby. You just need to have a good talk with Audrey, you don't need to force her to stop the relationship, make her see reasons why she should stop the relationship with George" Mr Baker was also affected by all his wife emotions.
"Really, she would listen to me. Are you sure about that Michael? Because she has changed so much. My little girl talking about love" Mrs Baker asked her husband.
"Sure, why not?. Let's do that tomorrow and let's sleep now. And when you're asleep, I will call Miss Abigail to inform her that we would like to speak to his parents." Mr Baker told his wife and then later on called Miss Abigail then slept thereafter.
The next day @ Miss Abigail office
In there, was seated Mrs Baker and her husband and George parents while a student who passed by was asked to call both Audrey and George into the office. They both came together, holding hands into Miss Abigail office. It took a glare from Mrs Baker before Audrey detached her hands from George's own.
" I believe you both know why you are called here right, I will let your parents do the honours" Miss Abigail said first and they both nodded with their faces glaring at the ground.
" George, what is this I'm hearing? You in a relationship with this girl. Ain't there any other girls in school" George's mother said while her husband touched her signalling her to stop angering the other party but she ignored it.
"What do you mean by that Mrs James? You are in support of your son being in a relationship at his young age. Well, I won't sit and wait for your son to ruin my daughter's life" Mrs Baker resorted.
"Are you sure it's not the other way round, Mrs Baker? One look at your daughter, I could already see she seduced my son" Mrs James was not backing down.
"My innocent daughter and seduction?? Well I think your son did something to my daughter" Mrs Baker surely didn't agree and took her daughter's side naturally.
" Women, we didn't join you for this banters about who did and who didn't so please hold it in. Let's talk to them, don't you agree with me Mr James?" Mr Baker intruded in the women's not so much of a dialogue.
" Sure" Mr James agreed. " George, according to what I know. She is your supposed girlfriend? So bon what basis is this relationship formed" Mr James asked his son with a serious face.
"Love Dad. I love Amor with all of my.. he..art. Dad I'm sorry because if you ask me to stop dating her, I won't" George was scared to say all of this to his parents face because he had agreed with Audrey that the stronger they are at this,their parents will understand them and their made up decision. But they knew what was coming after wasn't good because Nigerian parents are....(😂😂 What were you all thinking? They are awesome.)
" Me too Dad and Mom. I love him too and I won't stop dating him even if you say so" Audrey continued
" Oh really Audrey. I said I don't you having any relationship or I am disowning you, your sisters didn't do such an act in school. Michael, let's leave" Mrs Baker said irritated and left immediately with her husband.
" George, I expected better. Even you Audrey, I don't know you. I think you are from a good home and you shouldn't let him distract you. You're both in your last year in high school, exams in three months and here you both are boldly declaring to your parents that you love each other. Audrey, you know what you want and failure is sure not it as your class teacher have told me a few things about you dear. So you know what to do or else....." Mr James said seriously while his wife continued rolling her eyes at Audrey.
" Dad, I know what you are getting at." George said interrupting his dad.
" And what might that be?" Mr James asked his son. George kept quiet, not responding.
" Let's leave dear." He told his wife and they both stood up while Audrey and George took a step backwards.
" Thank you so much Miss Abigail" George's parents thanked his class teacher and left the office.
"You can both return to your class. Wait.. I'm wondering why no one is asking me why I told their parents, well that's because you don't listen to me anymore so I thought it's best I tell your parents. Now henceforth, a drop in any test mark or exams comes with extra punishment than the usual" Miss Abigail told them half yelling.
" Yes ma" They said in unison and walked out of the office together
