Cobalt and Bulbasaur stood across from Shiny Pidgey. As matchups went this was not too much of a disadvantage, but the odds were more in the favor of Bulbasaur than Pidgey with a ×2 Modifier against Flying. But Shiny Pokémon were typically more resilient than their non-shiny counterparts.
''Pidgey!'' Pidgey attacked with its Speed to launch Steel Wing
''Dodge it and follow up with Vine Whip to bind it.'' Cobalt orders.
''SAUR!''
''Quick use Poison Powder.'' Cobalt orders.
The Poison Powder is a long-term status condition move, and thanks to the binding through Vine Whip, it will occur quicker thanks to bringing Pidgey closer.
''Throw him at the tree!'' Cobalt orders, but Pidgey counters before Bulbasaur could hurl it, using Heat Wave.
''Bulbasaur use Synthesis and then Razor Leaf.'' Using Synthesis was tactically sound because Heat Wave was the sort of move you ordered a Pokémon to use to force an opponent back.
''Bul...SAUR.'' The Synthesis removes the low burn on the vines and gives Bulbasaur a small energy boost, allowing Bulbasaur to ignore the pain of being caught by Heat Wave and launch rings of Razor Leaf.
''Pidg..''
The Poison Powder was starting to take effect, Pidgey winced and his caramelized golden Feathers lose some of their shine.
''Bulbasaur, use Sludge Bomb!'' Says Cobalt.
Despite its status effects, Pidgey begins to swiftly Dodge the Sludge Bombs. However, the more Pidgey exerts itself, the more the Poison Powder starts taking effect. Cobalt can tell because while it still dodges the Sludge Bombs, its movements are growing more and more sluggish.
It doesn't help him and Bulbasaur much, since this Pidgey is smaller than the average typical Pidgey, it is not as heavy, which likely adds to its speed Stats, and agility, meaning that you have to have pinpoint accuracy in the Launching of attacks.
''Bullet Seed!'' Says Cobalt.
But as Pidgey closes in, Bulbasaur uses Synthesis instead and at the last possible moment blasts Pidgey with Solar Beam.
''Huh.'' Walking over to Bulbasaur, Cobalt pats his head slightly, before approaching Pidgey.
''Even before we started, you had just had a couple of battles, hadn't you? Your instincts were still freshly awakened, and your adrenaline hadn't yet dulled, thus when Poison Powder took effect your body started to wake itself up from the rush. But I'm guessing that your spontaneous learning of Heat Wave was what finally got rid of it. Your small, means you move quickly, but also means that you have issues with your endurance. Your Mutation seemed to help, but again it falls to your size.'' Says Cobalt.
''Pidgey.'' Somehow it pouts indignantly.
''Don't be so hard on yourself, I know a couple of ways to help you improve, that plus a bit of time followed by tougher opponents, means that by the point of Evolution, your Pidgeotto Form will gain a little extra push. But there are also dietary needs that should be met. I want you to help me develop a Pokémon food that helps make Flying types stronger.'' Says Cobalt placing his Pokeball down.
''Choice is yours, now you just need to make it.'' Says Cobalt as he begins packing up his camp cooking site.
''Pidge!'' Turning to look at Pidgey Cobalt watches it get itself captured.
''Now I just need two more Pokémon and I should have enough diversity to take on Brock. The only question is do I go for something in the Butterfree or Beedrill lines.'' Says Cobalt thoughtfully.
Either one would help down the line, but something in the Beedrill Line would be most useful since a butterfree would be the worse match-up against Brocks Pokémon. What's more is that not only were Bug-Typed Mons known to evolve quickly, but Beedrill could Mega-Evolve, just like Bulbasaur and Pidgey after reaching Venasaur and Pidgeot respectively.
But, Cobalt didn't want to catch a Beedrill, because one of the reasons for his journey was to fill his Pokèdex. Which was easy with his Meta-Knowledge as he knew where to find legendary Pokémon which were most often what kept the Pokèdex from ever really filling.
While on the subject of Lendaries, there was a couple that Cobalt intended to catch, they would help him achieve his dream of becoming a multiple league winner and Champion. Cobalt wasn't an idiot to think he could get Ho-Oh Lugia, Mew, Giratina, Dialga, Palkia, or even Entei, Suicune, or Raikou. Granted he actually could probably get his Pokèball's on The Legendary Beasts, but the point of the matter was he shouldn't.
The First Rule of World Domination is you DO NOT MESS WITH EXISTENTIAL DEITIES OR MONSTERS!
Now that Rule is not just a World Domination rule, it is an existential one. And while the Legendary Beasts are not technically Existential forces, they are essentially Ho-Oh's Generals.
''Hmm, that Reminds me, I will need some more ingredients,'' Cobalt says turning to The Pidgeotto.
''If I show you a good place for territory and a steady and regular source of food, would you consider showing me where some strong Beedrill live?'' Cobalt asks Pidgeotto.
''Geotto.'' Pidgeotto shakes its head before it just flies off, its pack following close behind.
''Hmph, figures. Bulbasaur Return!'' Says Cobalt, deciding it's best to return Bulbasaur to his Pokéball.
Time for some aimless wandering...shit!

(POV Shift: Weedle 11)

A Weedle's life was a poor one, they were beholden to the Kakuna and Beedrill and this was no different for Weedle 11. She was the 11th Weedle because she was the weakest, didn't matter that her special powers were higher, she was weaker where it mattered.
Which was why she was sent out in search of the source of the delicious aroma. The Kakuna and Beedrill were hungry and sought
Turning her head she found a Hunan before her.
''Weedle?'' She asked.
''You are stronger than you appear. Defensively you don't suck, but you have no Groudon in your defense Stats, how about you join me?'' The human asked.

(POV Shift: Cobalt)

Turns out he needn't have to wander as aimlessly as he thought, as he found a Weedle easily enough.
Or perhaps it found him?
Regardless, according to his Pokedex, this Weedle's Special Attack and Defense were very high, its normal Defense was not half as impressive though.
This appealed to Cobalt, however, and thus, Cobalt knelt before the Weedle.
''Weedle?'' It asked.
''You are stronger than you appear. Defensively you don't suck, but you have no Groudon in your corner for your defense Stats, so how about you join me?'' Cobalt asked.
''Weedle.'' It appeared as though it was considering, pondering the pros and cons even.
''Weedle.'' It was still deep in thought, and Cobalt held out a Pokéball for it while he waited.
''Wee, Weedle!'' Finally, having come to a decision Weedle bangs its nose against the Pokéball's button and lets it be captured.
''Time to book it to Viridian City, Acerola is waiting and I'd rather not risk Rapooh getting loose on Team Rocket's home turf in their home city.'' Cobalt murmurs thoughtfully, Almost disappointed in how easy today had been thus far.
Pidgey was Shiny, yet was not a difficult opponent, Weedle likewise was convinced rather easily.
Where was the challenge he so desperately sought? Where was the Fun?
