I look outside my window and sigh when I see it is going to be a hot day. However, I still cover up. I put on a simple white camisole, my black jeans and a green
jersey, hoping to keep my scars covered, while not being uncomfortably hot during the day. I check the mirror, not even looking at myself, looking at all the places that I could normally see the scars. I make sure they are hidden. I hide them before turning to leave.
This is a routine I have developed before I leave the cottage. I know normal people would not care if they saw my scars on display. They would often turn their heads and pretend they have not seen me at all.
But today was different, and I had to make sure that everything is covered. Garett asked me to go on a walk with him. He kept asking me to join him for a walk. Eventually, he wore me down and he got me to agree to it.
As much as I might despise going out, I didn't want to let him down. I didn't need one of the few people who actually tolerate me to worry. I know I have not always been kind to him. But Garett is always kind and sweet to me and always helps to relax me, however he becomes a bit of a bore.
Especially his willingness to always agree to do anything I ask of him. Regardless of how much he can irritate me, I am not willing to lose his company.
I was walking towards town. I looked back, back over my shoulder, to make sure the door of my cottage is closed. As I turned my head around, I feel a blow to my cheek.
The force of the punch sends me to the ground as I clutch my cheek in pain, blood. Blood dribbles out of my mouth. I bit my cheek. I needed to spit out a mixture of blood and saliva, before I looked up to see what was going on.
The fighting spirit in my eyes dies as I realize who punched me.
I'm not surprised to see them. They are laughing at me. Harley has her blonde hair up in a tight ponytail, her amber eyes glistening as she points at me, laughing more while she looks at Tanisha next to her. The dark-skinned girl looks down at me, her dark brown eyes shining with mischief as she spits at me.
"What's wrong, mutt? Did you bite your tongue?" Megan asks. Her straight black hair just grazes her shoulder, her brown eyes stare into mine, boredom shown on her pale face, as if being here, beating me up, is the last thing on her mind.
"My goddess, guys, did you see that?" Harley says, "The little mutt didn't know what hit her," she laughs, a bone chilling laugh as she points this out to the other girls. Her eyes not leaving me as she laughs at me, watching me gently move my chin. Testing to see if my jaw is okay after the punch.
"I wanna have a go at it," Tanisha says, grabbing my red hair and pulling me up. I don't fight, even though my hands grab onto Tanisha's wrist, doing nothing but holding onto her as she pulls me up.
I'm on my knees when I get kicked in the stomach, my body moves backwards, and my hands fall back to my sides as Tanisha still holds my hair, pulling it. The force of the kick causes bile to rise to my mouth.
"Don't fucking touch me," Tanisha says, her voice full of disgust. If her kick wasn't enough of a warning, she had to tell me as well. Her eyes stare down at me, looking through me with such intensity.
Harley and Megan are laughing in the background.
Harley steps up, kicking me from behind, her foot coming down on the center of my spine. My body swings forward from the impact. Making me groan at the feeling. My head spins as my body moves unnaturally.
Tanisha's grip tightens around my hair, ensuring that my head stays still. Pain shoots down my neck from my spine being kicked.
"Unwanted mutt," she says. "No wonder you live in that piece of rubbish. A dump is perfect for trash."
Her words sting, I know she is trying to get to me and I let her. I let her harmful words welcome me in their cold embrace as I believe them, repeating them to myself so I don't forget them when I am alone.
Harley kicks me on the side again, my hip shifting from the force, tearing muscles. I let a whimper out. Megan is behind me. I don't see her move. I just hear the click-clack of her heels as she walks. I stop hearing her footsteps and before I can even try to take in a shallow breath. I feel her foot come down on the back of my knee. I moan out loud as I feel something crack in my leg.
The girls must have noticed or heard the crack, because their laughter gets louder.
"Do it again," Tanisha says, gasping for air between the laughing.
Megan, never one to back down, walks around me, to my other leg and she stops next to it. I try to focus on something else, my eyes closed, hoping she does it quickly and that the pain won't be as sharp. The stomp never comes. Instead, I feel my head get knocked back again.
I look up and see Tanisha placing her leg down, realizing she had just kneed me in the face. The taste of metal fills my senses as my mouth fills with blood. I feel the warm liquid dripping down my face as I realize she has just broken my nose.
They continue the assault for a few minutes. Tanisha holding me up by my hair. My head and face are numb.
Harley and Megan take turns using me as their personal punching bag. Tanisha must be tired because I feel her pull my hair, forcing my head up before she shoves my head downward. I turn my head, making sure the side of my face hits the pavement, not my nose. My cheek scarps against the pavement, tearing the skin.
"Damn, she is heavy," Tanisha says.
"What an ugly little thing!" Megan says. Taking a step closer to me, I notice the stiletto heels on her shoes. They have gold spikes, and I know what is about to come.
"Ugly and fat," one of them says, their foot kicking me in the back.
"And to think, the Alpha rescued you from the streets and think about how you repay him. What a stupid little bitch," Harley says, stepping forward, her foot on my hair, keeping me on the ground.
I don't struggle, instead I close my eyes, telling myself I deserve the beating.
She kicks me in my stomach again. Tanisha's cruel words follow, "Ugly mutt."
A kick hits my ribs. It feels like my skin is being pierced as she knocks the last of the air out of my lungs. I feel a few of my ribs crack. The pain brings tears to my eyes.
"You should just die and save the pack from having you as a burden," Harley says, as her kick hits me on the back. Causing me to cough, I see the blood splattered across the pavement.
I can't stop a few tears from falling from my eyes. I know she is right. If only she knew of my plan.
"Look, it can cry," Megan says mockingly, squealing as if she just won the ultimate prize.
I curse myself for letting tears leave grace my eyes. I know I deserve all of this and should embrace the pain.
"Let's see if it can bleed," Harley speaks again. As her foot stomps on my left wrist, she leans on her foot as it comes down on my wrist, causing a snap.
My mouth opens to scream, but nothing comes out. I'm breathless.
The tears roll down my cheeks as I feel something sharp pierce my thigh. Megan is standing above me and I realize the shooting pain was I felt the impact of her stiletto as she stomps on me.
"Worthless slut! No one can protect the death bringer now," she says as a smirk crosses her face.
Her words remind me of all the pain I have caused. Jacob's face flashes through my mind and I can't help but groan in pain when the next kick hits my chest.
The kicks are ruthless, hitting their mark every time. I don't have time to cover my head. My stomach aches from the kicks. My legs They cover my leg in marks from Megan's heels. I feel the warm, thick liquid trickling down my legs from the ones where she broke my skin. My eyes follow the trail of blood on the pavement and I slowly realize the blood is from my face hitting the pavement.
I focus on the blood, watching it seep into the pavement, blessing the earth with my cursed blood.
I no longer hear their insults. All I hear is ringing deep inside my ear, making their words sound distant and distorted. My eyes are closing, my body is struggling to stay conscious of the pain.
I feel my body being turned over, my eyes open, and I focus on the clear sky above me. I don't notice the weight across my stomach. I just see flashes of blonde hair as fist after fist hits my face. My mouth is full of blood, my right eye swollen shut and before she hits me again.
I hear one of them say, "Eww, you better have a shower. Wouldn't want to smell like trash."
The weight across my stomach lifts off of me. I feel something wet hit my face as each of them walk past me.
Before the last one, Tanisha walked past me, and I felt the kick to the side of my head, causing me to see sparkling white dots.
My vision is blurry, and my mind is at ease knowing that I got what I deserved.
My eyes close as I am overcome with dizziness and I embrace the darkness, hoping Medeia's lackeys finally did what I never could.
