"I was waiting for you, since you would not pick up my calls." He said.
"Calls? You called?" I had to ask because I didn't hear my phone ring. I checked my pocket because I knew they were there and I would have heard it ring. When I checked it, there was eight missed calls from him. I sighed.
"It was on..."
"I get it, you are mad at me or what I said, but don't fucking neglect my calls man, do you know how fucking worried I got when you didn't pick my fucking calls?!" Dylan stopped me from explaining that my phone was on silent.
It was hard to know right now, if he was scolding me or was just worried because I was sure I haven't heard him used as much curse words as he just did.
"My phone was on silent." I said.
He didn't say anything like I expected this time, we were both just standing there at the dimly lit stairway. I didn't know what he was thinking but he did look worried like he said he was.
He started up the stairs, I followed him, I guess there was nothing to say anymore. He turned on the room light when we got to our room.
"Look I'm sorry about what I said." He took off his glasses and wiped them before sighing.
"Okay." Was all I could say. I sat on the bed, grabbed a pillow and decided to lie down instead.
"Where did you go?" He asked.
"To her apartment." He had this surprised look when I said what I said. I didn't know what he was surprised at, that she stayed in her apartment or that I went over there.
"She asked you to come?" Now I knew what he was surprised at.
"No, I just went and surprised her at her door." He was looking at me like I did something unnecessary." I missed her calls too, so I thought doing that would make up for that, she was crying over the phone." I explained hoping it didn't sound so wildly weird; what I did.
"So she is pregnant." It was more of statement than question from him.
"Yeah. I'm tired, I should sleep." I wanted to just travel away from that thought through sleep.
Dylan turned off the light switch. It was quiet in the room now, I couldn't even hear his usually loud breathing. I felt my eyelids become heavy, my eyes closing and opening again and just when I was about to finally close my eyes, as sleepy as I was, I heard Dylan call my name.
"Jerry?"
"Mhmm?" I answered.
"Did you try to kill yourself today?"
"What?!" My eyes opened.
"Did you try to kill yourself?"
"No?" I replied wondering why he would ask that. I wished the light switch was next to my bed, so I could turn it on and see what expression he had on his face, asking me that.
"Okay." He said and there was silence for a short time before I asked what I thought needed to be asked.
"Dylan?"
"Hmmn?"
"Why did you ask me that?"
"Well, when I woke up, I didn't see you here so I decided to check downstairs for you and when you weren't there, I began calling you and you were not picking up, I got worried that she had called and yiu had decided to...you know, kill yourself."
I laughed even though it was in a muffled state, I laughed real hard. Was he serious? Did I look like I had just gotten back from trying to kill myself?
"Goodnight man." I said when I couldn't laugh anymore.
"Goodnight." I heard him chortle, before I closed my tired eyes.
MORNING
I heard a loud ring next to my ear, it must be my phone, but I didn't set an alarm before going to bed yesterday or did I? I didn't remember. With my eyes still closed, I tried to locate my phone by it's sound and vibration, I didn't want to open them, it might be hard to get that sleepiness back on track.
I stretched out my hands around where I could hear it still ringing loudly, trying to reach it. I wondered why Dylan wasn't try to stop the alarm, maybe he was letting it ring on, on purpose to wake me up, but I was sure I didn't have any classes today.
The ringing stopped, finally. I closed my eyes tighter, ready to continue with my slumber but it started again.
"Urghh." I said frustrated about it ringing again. I opened my eyes and checked around for it. Dylan was not in the room, he had probably left already.
I picked it up when I saw it and looked at the screen with my half opened eyes. It wasn't an alarm, it was a call. I sat up, my eyes fully open now. The ringing stopped again, It was my mum calling, it had been her calling all this while I thought it was an alarm.
"Fuck." I cursed. She had called three times this morning, how sleepy was I not to be able differentiate a call from my alarm.
I rubbed my eyes to be fully awake. I was about to call back when a call cane through. It was my dad calling. She must have been worried after I didn't pick her calls and I asked my dad to try calling.
She did this same thing once when my sister didn't come home the time she said she would. I sighed just before I picked it.
"Dad? Good morning."
"Why haven't you been picking up your calls?" I heard him ask In a serious voice.
"I just woke up....."
"Three missed calls Jerry, and what do you mean you just woke up, do you know what the time is? don't you have class or something." I honestly didn't know what the time was and I was not ready for any of this, this morning so I just kept quiet.
