Chapter 2 - Red

"So have you texted him?" Sonya asks with eagerness.

It's been a couple of weeks since olive.tv glitched out and left us in the unknown path of thinking about who should text first. I understand that it is the 21st century and that woman can now "shoot first" or so on, but I prefer the old days where the men would do all the work and woman just needed to wait.

"Not yet, I'm waiting for him to text first." I reply to Sonya while beating some eggs in our cooking class. Sonya and I go to the same Public University in Indonesia, we are both from around here, unlike her she went to the normal Indonesian Highschool, and I went to an international one. That's the reason I know English and Sonya tries to practice with me whenever she feels like it.

"But he said... text first." Sonya looks at the sticky note to where I re-wrote his last massage || Text me @marcopolo001 ||. She grabs it and pulls it closer to her face probably curious to know if she is reading it right or if it's her lack of English skills that's messing with her.

I grab the sticky note from her fingers and stare at it… It sure is tempting as if there was some type of force pulling me in. "It just feels weird Sonya, something could go wrong, I mean he could be part of the mafia or something." I say with worry

"No there is no bad feeling, only you keep thinking about your ex and how much you still love him." "Give it to me." She said suddenly,

I see her palm opened in front of my right-side pocket I look at her brown eyes as she looks up and down at me like x-ray eyes because she knows the ring is stashed in my pocket. Even when I cook, I still carry the ring with me.

"The ring, I know you always put it in your pocket." She demands.

"…WHAT… I don't know what you mean?" I say with a little smirk to lighten up the mood.

"Come on Selena, this is the way you move on, you give me the ring and you text Marco." She desperately insists while jumping up and down like a child.

"But even his account name is so weird." I plead mimicking her childlike movements.

"If you don't give me the ring were not best friends anymore." She sputtered.

"Ugh fine, but only for today night, I'll pick it up tomorrow." I debated. I hand her the blood red ruby ring with rims of gold, the ring glows red as I hold it as it drops on the palm of Sonya's hands, I can see the once bright blood red glow gradually turn into a dark shadowy red. It could be the dim lights that affect the gradient color of the ring.

"Good, you will receive the ring tomorrow." Sonya cheered with a big proud smile on her face slipping the ring into her right-side pocket.

"Okay class you are dismissed go home after you finish doing the general cleaning of this kitchen, don't take too long." Our lecturer began "Reports say that people have gone missing majority being men, so for safety precautions let the men go home first, goodbye see you soon." He added.

"Wow I can't believe that in this century men are now being targeted. Either way let's go home together as a group" announced Alysa while she holds the absence schedule as her task of being our class leader.

It's a great idea to go home as a group, I partner up with Sonya and 2 other guys after we all finished cleaning the ins and outs of this kitchen. As we all head out, I turn off the lights until it's all pitch black. the feeling of my hairs tingling always is the indication of my fears of the dark.

We get to the grey metal lockers near the doors of the kitchen. It's shined with one flickering light hanged on the red wall pillar that separates the section of lockers. It's usually not as dark, but today not even the stars shine tonight. It's not a private locker room since we don't need to change out of our clothes, we just take off our black aprons and put our recipe books in our bags.

"AHHHHH." Sonya Jolted from her bag and grabbed my hand as reflex and tugged me to run. I don't know what was happening but the fear in her eyes tells me is something bad, is it the kidnappers? Are they kidnapping girls now? Why did the lecturer have to mention the news now I'm paranoid.

I grab Sonya's hand back as I look back at the crowded students still at the lockers. So, no kidnappers to scare them?

"What's wrong Sonya, why are we the only ones running?" I say while catching my breath.

"I saw a snake near my locker!" she blurted while catching her breath too.

Gasping for air I start hearing fainted distressed screams to where we just ran from, I see the students running away and Alan, the class clown, doing some karate kid movements to control the snake, the snake is medium sized and has red scales all over its skin, seeing it from this far away makes me think that the red scales are glowing. Impossible. Instantly the snake slithers fast towards us.

"AHHHHHH!!!" Me and Sonya scream at the same time while both frozen, unable to move. Its mouth opening wide open ready to seep into our flesh and inject us with poison. Oh, I don't want to die, not like this. Abruptly the snake literally flew to the side hitting the almond tree that's 3 feet away from us on.

As my eyes fall back to where the snake was, minutes before it was thrown away like mere trash. I see Alan holding his pose as if he just hit a whole in one but with a stick as at the golf clubs and the snake as the ball.

"You are welcomed ladies." He smirks while bowing like a prince

Me and Sonya giggle and bow like princesses "Well thank you very much, how very brave." I say while patting my eyes jokingly taunting him. He smirks one last time and his handsome torso turns and walks away.

"It's a shame that we aren't what his looking for, he sure is a gentleman." Sonya sighs.

"Sonya you literally went on a date with Mike last week." I remind her.

"Yes, a date, it's not official yet." She says while shrugging her shoulders. I grab her arm and drag her back to the locker to grab our bags to go home.

"Seems like it's going to rain soon, we better head home fast." I say as I feel the droplets fall onto the fingertips of my hand.

"Your right I didn't bring an umbrella." Sonya responds while covering her head. I do the same gesture.

As we all run as a class to the directions of where we all individually live, me and Sonya run towards a porch that shields the rain from us. We wave the others to go on by themselves since my apartment is 1 block away from where we currently stand, and Sonya can sleep over like usual.

With the sides of my eyes I see Sonya ruffling through her bags and pockets as if she is looking for something. The last time she did this was when she was trying to find a single coin to go buy some snacks. But she usually would have a happier face than the serious face she shows now.

"Sonya" she looks at me with a shimmer in her worried eyes

"I lost it."
