Chapter 11 - Alastor

From that day on, they had sat down every evening after dinner, reviewing the books ,Cat had read, together. Cat realized that Andrew was beginning to respect her. But she couldn't be sure she had won Andrew's love because she didn't have any feelings she was expressing. She had only seen him expressing his anger once. A letter from London enraged Andrew. Cat had never forgotten that moment. She had heard Andrew's angry shouts from the study. She had even witnessed the derogatory words from Andrew's mouth. Ever since she'd known Andrew, he'd always kept his distance. Except for the behaviors and words required by his position, she had never witnessed a sincere conversation with the employees. He was trying to protect these boundaries with her.

It's been over two months since I've been here. She and Andrew were closer than they had been in the early days. After dinner, they would do a book review as usual. They were sitting opposite each other by the fireplace. Andrew was sipping his wine. Cat stared at the fireplace fire, deep in thought. She was thinking about the note he received today. Time was running out. She had to hurry. Andrew and Cat talked at length about the book, as usual, and then they both went to their rooms as usual.

That morning, when Cat looked out of her bedroom window overlooking the garden, she saw Andrew standing alone on the terrace, his cigar between his teeth, staring at the garden. He seemed lost in thought. Cat thought about how handsome he was, but immediately closed her eyes, trying to get those thoughts out of her head. Cat wrapped her arms around her own body and shivered. Then he went downstairs to the kitchen.

The kitchen looked pretty quiet today. Rose was in town today. After lingering in the kitchen for a while, Cat went outside to the horses. It caught her eye and she started walking towards him.

As Andrew watched the garden, he was amazed at her courage when he saw Mary advancing towards the black terror. It was Alastor; Andrew's horse and he wouldn't let anyone near him. Andrew didn't want her to be battered by the horse. He immediately left the terrace and headed towards her.

Cat was a few meters away from Alastor, but she didn't dare approach the horse. Suddenly, he felt a breath on the back of his neck, and he was startled with fear and lost his balance. Andrew grabbed her by the waist to keep her from falling. Cat quickly freed herself from him, regained her balance and smoothed her green dress with her hand. Andrew found it quite amusing.

"It may not be healthy for you to get any closer to him," she said.

"I just wanted to touch it, it... it looks so beautiful."

As Andrew approached the horse, the horse brought its head closer to Andrew. Andrew was running the horse's head while encouraging Cat to approach him. Cat took two steps and extended her hand. Andrew grabbed her by the arm and pulled her towards him. Cat couldn't keep her balance and an involuntary "Ahhh" sound came out of her mouth as her head hit Andrew's chest. Andrew was staring at her as she lifted her head. Cat sensed a ferocity in his blue eyes. Andrew mockingly

"I think you like the place," she said, and Cat realized her body was still pretty close to Andrew's, and she blushed and walked away from him.

"Mr. Andrew," Cat stammered, startled.

Andrew let out a small laugh. This must have been a lot of fun for her. For the first time, Andrew was acting out of his position. He took Cat's hand and brought him closer to the horse to caress the horse's head. Although Cat was hesitant at first, after a while, the horse's moodiness came to an end. Cat was staring at Andrew, as if seeking approval as she scrambled the horse's head. Andrew was encouraging her with his gaze.

Cat must have been quite pleased to pet the horse because she was smiling. Andrew made a move that Cat didn't expect, and he grabbed her by the waist and put her on the horse. Then he got on the horse too. Cat was about to protest, but Andrew had already silenced her with his gaze. He leaned close to Cat's ear and whispered to her. "Would you like to take a little stroll like before?" Cat nodded in agreement. Andrew gripped Cat's waist tighter as he moved the horse.
