Chapter 4 - Chapter Four

I was dry and sitting in front of my vanity by my window, it was almost time for dinner and to meet my future mate. But I couldn't stop thinking about a certain, golden eyed man. As I brushed my hair, I thought about how dark his hair was wet, and wondered how dark it was dry, and as I looked at my self in the mirror, I couldn't help but think of how the sun made his glisten like gold.

A knock sounded on the door alerting me that dinner was ready, so I quickly put my hair up in my signature braided bun, and rushed to my closet to find something decent to wear. First impressions are everything in our world, and if I didn't come off as strong or beautiful, then I would have failed. Either way I would leave with this man, but each outcome would depend on how I was treated as his mate. Strong and beautiful equals a great life, weak and beautiful equals a life being used as a breeder. The only love I will ever know outside of my family would be from my children, my mate would have very little to do with me and I would be of low standing regardless of what station my mate is.

I looked at every dress, until I came across a light pastel blue dress. It was a floral lace, cold shoulder dress that stopped above the knee. It was cute and frilly, but its also something my mother would tell me to dress in, which would be perfect for this occasion. I slipped the dress on, and slipped into a pair of cream pumps, my makeup was simple and natural. I opened the door and the first thing I saw was a pair of golden eyes on the other side, he was leaning against the wall right outside my door where one of the guards would be place. But this time he was the only one outside, I watched as he looked me up and down before meeting my eyes again. He gave me a smirk before pushing off the wall and walking away from me, I quickly followed as he lead me to the dinning room.

He abruptly stopped before we reached the door, causing me to stumble slightly, but he was quick to steady me, "You look beautiful tonight, Princess," and with that he took up his position by the dinning room door to look over the guests while they ate. I slowly walked into the room, occasionally glancing over at Onyx before my father noticed me and called me over.

"Aspen, this is my daughter, Anastasia," I smiled at the man who my father said was Aspen, and he smiled back. He was handsome with his sandy brown hair and his beautiful emerald green eyes, and his physic looked impressive. We all sat around the long table, my father sitting at the end as usual, and my mother now sat at the other end. The only empty seat was next to Aspen and I have a sneaking suspicion that my parents had planned this, I sat down next to him and immediately his arm brushes against mine, like he's been dying to touch me for so long that he had to do this simple act to get it over with.

I watched as he took in my appearance and it was nothing like how Onyx looked at me. Aspen looked at me like he was curious about how much I was worth, or where I would fit in the stations, while Onyx looked at me like I was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, like he didn't care which station I was in. Like I could be an omega and he would still chase after me in a heart beat.

"You will do," he simply said, and in that instant I felt worthless.

"Perfect," my father smiled, "When should we start packing Anastasia's things?"

A few of the pack members came out from the kitchen carrying trays of food and drinks. As everyone loaded their plates with food I sat there sipping my wine, and when I looked up to see what Onyx was doing, he was already staring at me.

"Eat," he mouthed at me, then looked at the roasted boar sitting in the middle of the table. When I had three slices sitting on my plate I looked up at him again, he had a smirk on his face as he looked at me, then looked at the mashed potatoes sitting right in front of me. I humored him and put a spoonful on my plate, then he looked towards the cream corn, I wrinkled my nose at them and shook my head.

"Come on," he mouthed again, but I slightly shook my head. He motioned towards them again with a smile and I wrinkled my nose again before he rolled his eyes and looked at the rolls. Those I could do.

I began eating my meal as I toned out the conversation that was happening around me, but from the looks of what was being said, it aggravated Onyx. I could see him become visibly angry, and when I tuned back into the conversation I could see why.

"How many grandchildren should I expect?"

"As many as she's able to produce, I need an heir to hold my place as Alpha."

"I can already see it now, you too are going to be so happy together," my mother cooed, as she placed her chin on the top of her hands as she looked at the both of us.

"Very," Aspen mused as he cut up a piece of meat.

"So, Aspen, what is your pack like?" I asked just to make conversation, I wouldn't hear the end of it if I didn't try to talk to him while he was here.

"Large, full of fierce warriors and beautiful landscapes."

"What about the people?"

"What about them?" He asked as he chewed.

"What are they like?"

"Oh, well, you know. Like people," I gave him a nod but looked at my hands when he looked away, what kind of Alpha didn't know what their people was like?
