Chapter 1 - *SHE WAS GONE FOR GOOD*

Looking out the window just across the hopelessly scattered bed in the dimly lit room which he had once shared with the love of his life, - his reason for being alive, for staying alive he could see that life was still going on smoothly; with every single soul- both man and animal- as he could vaguely see them moving on with their daily or in this case nightly activities without given a care in the world, even though twilight had already arrived bidding farewell to the bustling day and welcoming the equally bustling night. But still, Kace couldn't see the meaning in this all; in sleeping during an uncomfortable night and waking up to it's boring counterpart- Day.

'How could he face this day without her' Kace asked himself for the umpteenth time but still, he got an unbearable but strangely comfortable silence- at least for him. 'How could he face any day', he continuously asked himself as he stood unmoving on front of his locked window like a concrete stooge. Kace didn't know how long he stood at that spot neither did he know how long he had stayed locked up in this room- their room. At this thought, he smiled an unnerving smile which was visibly longer on one cheek than the other as he remembered the heart wrenching events of the past month. She was gone. She was gone for good!

The dangerously blaring noise from inside the room made his soul jump from within, viscously shoving him back to reality as he moved his seemingly frozen body to depict the source of the sound within the room, the stinging numbness he felt in his legs couldn't go unnoticed by his tired brain which could be said to have slept for a moment there or a few hours sincerely speaking! He instinctively sat on the edge of muddle heap he called a bed when he roughly kicked a metal, whatever it was...

"Damn" he cursed loudly as he held onto his throbbing toes which were bare.

As for his slip-ons, he couldn't quite remember where he placed them. He slightly bent to see whatever he had slammed his innocent foot into, only to notice the heavy alarm clock gifted to him by his heart throb. Her audacious reason being that whenever he slept, he performed that action like a log. A massively heavy one at that!

"Kace am serious" Lisa said solemnly " this is infact a good thing coz even if you were being thrown into the Pacific during a storm while you were asleep, you wouldn't even budge, you know" She added gingerly, as she laughed it off.

Her voice sounded distant but very appealing to him. He wanted more. He wanted to hear more of that soothing caress on his ears. But before he cold settle down to absorb the melody; a splitting headache shuffled his brain. So now he couldn't think of her also! What did this his useless body mean? At that moment, the alarm clock blared again. Thinking he might have snoozed it, he bent down, picking the small clock- which brought back memories he didn't want to remember - disabled it, before placing the heavy metal 'plus ' on the side table. He was just about to tumble down to the chaotic comfort of his bed when suddenly his stomach growled loudly it's displeasure of not being properly fed this week. Only God knew how long he embarked on this unintentional fasting.

"Oh lord, what is this now? " he mumbled to himself jumping down from the pleading bed which creaked loudly stating the solid fact that is had gotten tired of this weight!

Kace immediately headed for the door leading in to a narrow hallway which led to a kitchen, a sitting and dinning room. The small kitchen brought back memories. Very good ones at that. But he ignored those disturbing thoughts in fear of the deranging headache he just had. He opened all the cupboards only to find vacancy in it's full glory staring back at him.

"No!" he winced pitifully while rolling his eyes

This meant only one thing- he had to leave this cave of an apartment and with that he got his wallet and his jacket before heading out the door and locking it securely behind him.
