Chapter 40: 5 years later!!!
5 years passed by rather quickly, by this time both the human world and the elemental world has thoroughly and completely integrated.
Humans were wary of the elementals and the elementals were wary of humans but under the rulership of the void assassins and the earth elementals, everyone was subdued to an extent.
History was taught written and rewritten about the great war that ended the reign of the elemental King but by the way, it was recorded, it made Lancelot look like a demon trying to destroy the world and it made General Wang look like a savior.
Both histories of humans and Elementals were taught to both species, although some of the truth had been slightly twisted.
The current world Emperor was King Dabill
Wang, and a unified city was established where all factions both humans and Elementals alike were made to fully integrate and create small units that represented their heritage, a similar achievement to the dream Lancelot once held but it pales in comparison to the stature he hoped for.
The Void Assassins were accepted by humans since they lacked elemental control and the only advantage they had was their immunity to elements, and although they're stronger than humans, the gap can easily be bridged with a tempered body forged from ruthless training.
General Wang became a world-renown hero, whether she rode in a car, using the technology of humans, or on a beast of the beast nation, she was respected, feared, and adored.
Emperor Dabill Wang sat down with a large cup of wine in his left hand, he was so pleased with himself that he couldn't hold back his laughter.
"Heheheh' ,
Just shortly after that, a human messenger rushed in, and got on his knees,
"My Lord Emperor"
"Have you caught the wench and her son?"
The Emperor asked as his facial construct changed quickly.
The messenger shook his head in response,
"No, my Lord Emperor"
"l don't want anyone causing problems for me in the future, how difficult is it to just kill a woman and a boy, the rest are already dead, it has been 5 years now yet you can't handle this simple task, what is the essence of having human mercenaries?"
"You're even more useless compared to the elemental factions, get out of my sight, you just soiled my mood, I really should hang you outside.."
The messenger became jittery as fear sipped into him like a flood.
"My Lord please spare me, I am but a messenger",
He tried to plead for his own life but it was too late, as the Emperor had already given signals, by pointing his thumbs up and then changing the position to a downward thumbs down.
The earth and assassin soldiers grabbed the messenger immediately and dragged him out, but the next thing that could be heard was a sharp scream and silence as he was killed rather quickly.
Kendra was hiding in the woods of the beast nation forest.
She remembered the way Xanthu ad the others sacrificed themselves for her escape, back then, she was pregnant with a child for
Lancelot, she was in extreme pain.
General Wang was going to slice her up upon discovering her swelling belly, but Xanthu jumped in front of her blade and endured her earth tremor, causing himself to be buried within the earth, several kilometers below ground, just to buy time for Kendra's escape.
Kendra had truly been hanging on a thin thread for these past five years, struggling to not sink into depression, her son, a seed of Lancelot had not even been trained in the art of his element mastering and there was no telling which element he had an affinity for.
She has to find a way to secure his future by sending him to an elemental school.
The elemental school was created by General Wang on the orders of the Emperor, it was to show the superiority of elementals to humans, it would examine the best elementals all around the world and train them under the supervision of the best elementals of rank four of every nation.
The other nations were opposed to it initially, but after the ruthless show of strength by General Wang, the void assassins, and the god of the earth nation, they all were submissive and obedient in the end.
Kendra took her five-year-old son and dropped him in front of an orphanage home, but before she left, she patted his head and spoke;
"My precious son, the path you're fated to walk is a long and dangerous one, but before you become strong enough to bring the world under your feet and avenge your father, you must survive.
"Always remember, do not trust anyone, you can only trust yourself, mother would look after you as much as she can, you just be careful and trust no one. I love you, my son, we will meet again either here or in the great beyond"
She said with a bitter smile as she patted his head and cupped his cheeks.
"Mom, are you leaving? Mom don't go! Mom, please stay! I will be a good boy! Mom!"
She stood up with tears dropping from her eyes and left a letter on top of a small bag she had brought with him.
"Just stay and make sure you survive, I love you"
She then dashed away quickly not wanting to be seen.
The cries of the boy attracted the resident of the orphanage home, a kind, and warm woman came out, and rushed to the boy,
"Why are you crying? who brought you here?
where is your mom?"
The blond-haired woman with a moderately attractive visage asked the 5-year-old boy before her, but her questions were like fuel to a burning flame, it made the boy cry the more.
Seeing how hard it is to get the boy to answer questions, she moved close to him and embraced him, and tried to calm him down.
She brought him into the orphanage and offered some sweets, which the boy took, she then noticed the bag that he had with him and the paper that was attached to one of the bag's zip.
She took the paper and opened it and there was a well-written letter, the words were clear and crystal and written with a black inked pen in such a neat manner, that it seemed too perfect.
She then sat comfortably to read the words while she took a glance at the boy before her.
"Please keep the words that I write here a secret, the fate of my only son depends on it. I'm sorry for shamelessly abandoning him at your doorstep but as it stands I don't have the means to protect him as the emperor wants his life as well as my life."
"My only hope is you, for whoever is reading this, the fate of the world rests on my son Lancelot Jnr. The son of Lancelot, the
Elemental King, I'm revealing this truth to you because of my total trust in you, Lancelot wasn't what they described in the history books"
"My lover was the savior which the world never got to witness, he was cut short before he could achieve destiny. Please give my boy another name to conserve his identity and allow him to take part in the elemental school exams, he wasn't trained yet but his origins are solid, thank you for all you will do,"
"yours sincerely Kendra"
The face of the orphanage caretaker went from shock to surprise to fear and back to shock, the information she was reading was beyond what she could handle, she gulped from fear, but one thing she shared was hatred for the emperor, she still could recall how the human world was stormed 3 years ago and her family was slaughtered like chickens.
Although she hated the elemental race she knew the information in the history books cant be as simple as it sounds.
Now that some of the truth had been revealed, she knew her life was also on the line, but for some reason, she trusted the contents of the letter and was ready to protect Lancelot Jr, no matter what.
She looked at Lancelot Jr.
"From today onwards, your name would be
Gabriel Li, the son of Lancelot, your father's story might not be clear but I will do my best to help you live to the fullest."
Gabriel Li looked up at her and nodded as tears streaked down his face, for some reason, he felt he had found another mother, the day had really been too much for him.
About 30 minutes later he was sound asleep in her arms.
She stroked his hair with a soft touch and smiled, she had to hide that paper or at least prevent it from being discovered, she immediately carried Lancelot Jr. to a room where other children were sleeping.
She placed him on one of the open beds and dashed for the kitchen, she put on the gas and lit it up, and right then and there, she threw the paper into the fire and she ensured that it was completely burnt before she heaved a heavy sigh.
'l will protect you' she said resolutely in her mind.
