Chapter 4 - Chapter 2: A Beating_2

A green Chaoliguo, not even a meter tall, appeared behind the staff member.

Its head was round, with a pair of green antennae tipped with yellow, and it also wore a staff badge on its chest.

As a plant-series pet beast, the Chaoliguo was mild-mannered and had always been beloved by everyone, especially girls.

"Chaoli."

It came to Qiao Sang, and its right hand, with three rounded toes, made a welcoming gesture, exuding a professional demeanor.

As the capital city of Zhehai Province, the Hangkang Beast Taming Center naturally was also the largest in Zhehai Province.

Qiao Sang followed the Chaoliguo for a good fifteen minutes before reaching the place where brain field testing was conducted.

The Chaoliguo used its badge to scan on the identity recognizer outside the door.

"Chaoli."

After the door opened, it called out to Qiao Sang.

Her mother spoke to Qiao Sang calmly, "Go in."

Her face was calm, but her eyes were mixed with expectations, revealing that although she believed in her daughter, she was still nervous before getting the results.

Qiao Sang followed the Chaoliguo in.

Before her was a female researcher with short hair dressed in a white lab coat and a Paopaoling floating in mid-air.

Qiao Sang had just read about the Paopaoling, an extraordinary creature, the day before in a book and had not expected to see a live one so soon.

The Paopaoling, lacking gender differences and belonging to the psychic series, was a rather rare pet beast.

In fact, all extraordinary creatures from the psychic series were quite rare.

The Pet Beast Base obviously did not have many either, only about five or six a year, starting at a million Alliance Currency, which a regular family simply could not afford.

She must be a wealthy woman.

Qiao Sang immediately labeled the short-haired female researcher in the white lab coat in front of her.

The short-haired female researcher, seated in front of a computer, was typing incessantly and seemed very busy. She showed no surprise when the Chaoliguo and Qiao Sang entered, clearly having been informed in advance of Qiao Sang's arrival.

"Go sit over there," she said, pointing to a single sofa nearby.

Qiao Sang went to the spot the researcher had indicated and sat down.

It was just a regular sofa with nothing special about it.

"Paopaoling," the short-haired female researcher called out to her partner without looking up.

"Ling."

Suddenly, the Paopaoling emitted a blue light. Before Qiao Sang understood what it was doing, a silver helmet connected to numerous device wires floated over from about a dozen meters away and landed on her head.

The sight made Qiao Sang's eyes shine.

This ability was so convenient; it was truly a lazy person's dream tool!

"Don't move."

The short-haired female researcher still hadn't looked up, but Qiao Sang knew the words were meant for her.

The silver helmet on her head didn't block Qiao Sang's vision, and she could clearly see the frown that formed on the female researcher's face as she studied the images and data transmitted from the device.

Qiao Sang instantly tensed up.

There couldn't be any problem, right?

The short-haired female researcher had a serious face. When expressionless, she was like the head disciplinarian at school, especially now with her stern expression.

Combining her position and what she was doing at the moment made Qiao Sang's heart jump to her throat.

"Did you awaken on your own?" the short-haired female researcher suddenly asked.

"Um, sister, is there a problem with me?" Qiao Sang asked nervously.

"No, don't be nervous," the short-haired female researcher, noting the girl's discomfort, contorted her strict face with an unnatural smile, trying to reassure her.

Scary...

Qiao Sang grew even more anxious.

"In our city this year, including you, there have only been six kids who have awakened on their own. Your grades must be very good, right?" the short-haired female researcher asked.

Academic achievers weren't necessarily able to awaken on their own, but those who did succeed in doing so were always academic achievers.

Qiao Sang: "..."

You could say she was clever or talented, so why bring up grades?

Qiao Sang knew she was trying to ease her nerves, but really, if you can't make conversation, don't force it...

"I'm usually third," Qiao Sang replied without a hint of embarrassment.

"Third in the entire school is not bad either, many who are first or second don't manage to awaken," the short-haired female researcher said with a stiff but soft voice.

"I just ranked first in this year's mock exam," Qiao Sang said, no longer nervous.

"After awakening, the brain field develops by 2%. Usually, self-awakened individuals like you are around 5%, so a sudden improvement is very normal," the short-haired female researcher explained the reason for Qiao Sang's first place.

Qiao Sang: "..."

About two minutes passed.

The short-haired female researcher looked up and called out, "Paopaoling."

"Ling."

The Paopaoling, using its telekinesis, returned the device on Qiao Sang's head back to its original place.

"Congratulations, your self-awakening was very successful, and there are no other problems with your brain field. It's just that the fluctuations in your brain field are a bit strong, so you need to rest well lately and eat more dry fruits," she said.

The short-haired female researcher took out a certificate, signed it, stamped it, stood up, and handed it over.

"Thank you."

Qiao Sang took the certificate, feeling the weight finally lift from her heart.

...

...

"How did it go?" Her mother stepped forward with the urgency of an arrow, asking nervously as soon as they stepped out.

Qiao Sang sighed and handed the results she held in her hand to her.

Ye Xiangting's face turned ashen in an instant, as she was too scared to even look at the results.

"Mom, take a look," Qiao Sang pushed the certificate forward a bit more.

Ye Xiangting's heart was cold, no awakening and a score of zero...

The truth was, even if she hadn't scored zero, with her daughter's previous academic performance, they couldn't have hoped for Beast Taming High School. The prerequisite for Beast Taming High School was to pass the magnetic wave awakening of the Beast Taming Codex and reach the score line.

The middle school exams were out of 650 points, and last year's cutoff score was 332 points.

If she couldn't pass after studying hard, then so be it; at least she would have tried. But her daughter had scored zero and then lied about it...

Ye Xiangting began to question her own education for a moment.

Time to administer a beating.

This child needed a lesson, and badly.

Seeing her mother take the certificate and lower her head to look at it, Qiao Sang couldn't help but straighten her back a bit.

"Smack."

Qiao Sang was dumbfounded.
