In the darkest alley, past midnight, a woman was running to catch the last train to her station. The places seemed abandoned as no shops were open and hardly any person seemed to roam that hour. It not only increased her anxiety but built a tension around her. The timing for the train to stop was almost five minutes and the woman sighed that she finally made it in time.
Suddenly, she started to feel cold during the summer night and there were no air conditioners at the station either. She looked around to see if someone was there with her but as far as her sight went, she found nothing suspicious. She rubbed her palms together as she shivered. Suddenly, she felt a presence behind her but when she turned around, no one was there. She was confused. Her eyes were fixed on the digital watch, hardly a few more seconds and she will be inside the train.
The train arrived and she was about to enter when she felt a tap on her shoulder. The woman flinched and didn't look back and jumped into the train. Once she found the train was vacant, she took a seat and glanced outside to check if there was really someone or was she hallucinating? There was no one.
She was shocked that she was aware she felt a tap on her shoulders, which frightened her to the core. It made her feel uneasy. After a while, she felt being watched again and she turned around to see if someone was there. Still with no clue, she returned back to her seat and was scared as soon as she spotted a man in a black trench coat sitting in front of her. His face was covered with a devil mask which made the woman jump and run for her life. She wanted to meet the conductor but found the same man standing in the train, blocking her way.
She was perplexed how this man reached before her? As she tried to take her steps back, she felt being pressed against someone, it was dreadful and she almost fainted when the man partially removed his mask to reveal his sharp fangs.
The woman's eyes popped out from the socket when she felt those sharp fangs dugges into her neck. The man had covered her mouth so she couldn't scream and suck her blood only to drain her out completely.
Her lifeless body was found by the authorities later.
It's been a long time, five years, if to say seem a long time but time flies and when five years ended for Adrianna, only she knew that.
A Lot of changes she had seen and went through but she couldn't find any clue for the man who was father of her children. This thought made her depressed most of the time and now that the babies are growing, they ask about their father frequently.
She was sitting in the waiting area for an interview for a press company. She had been doing multiple jobs at a time to support her little family but she needed a stable job which could provide her all the needs. After a while, she was called inside and sat in the cabin of the manager of the company.
"Adrianna Cosgrove, i have read your resume and i must say you seemed to be a perfect candidate for the job but here is the take, you don't have practical experience for the job. Do you understand that? Henceforth, we cannot give this job to you." Said the manager.
It shook Adrianna's dream of getting a better job but she was determined to get this job at any cost.
"Sir, please, try to understand. I need to have this job…" Adrianna pleaded.
"I can't give you this job because you lack experience in this field, Miss Cosgrove…"
"What do I have to do to get this experience? I can prove that I am a worthy candidate for this job, just give me one chance." Adrianna begged him.
"Alright…" The manager sighed and instructed her, "if you want this job, you have to pass a test."
"I will do it…"
"There is a rumour that i have heard about the Knights & co, their CEO, Alaric Knight is having an extra marital affair with a woman. I want you to prove this rumor with solid proof and get this job…" said the Manager.
Adrianna was stunned to hear that but she had to get the job anyhow. So, she accepted the offer and left.
Her heart pounded inside the rib cage when she thought about the task. Knights were known to be ruthless rulers and they are way out of her league. How will she prove her worth? It wasn't a piece of cake that she could eat in one go.
She went to the supermarket to get some groceries and stuff for home. Hardly having enough money, she insisted on taking only necessary items and went to check out.
"Hey Adrianna, how are you?" The cashier was Adrianna's neighbour and so she recognised her.
"Cathy, I am good. Went for an interview today…" she responded…
"That's great, I hope you have done your best."
"Ummm… almost, the job is mine but…" she was hesitant to break the news.
"But? Is there something you want to tell me?" Cathy was concerned.
"Wait… My shift is about to end. Let me clear your balance and we will go to the cafe…"
Cathy was the only friend Adrianna had after leaving her family and home for good. She had supported her in bad times.
Inside the cafe, Adrianna explained her situation to her friend.
"That's bad, the knight's are the most powerful influencers in the city and messing with them will land you in trouble. Along the line, you can't afford to lose the job.." Cathy remarked.
"That is the main concern, I have children to take care of and without money, I can't survive." Adrianna was depressed.
"I know it doesn't sound good but I think it will work…" said Cathy.
"What do you mean?" Adrianna was curious.
"My sister in law works in the Knight's mansion and I guess she could help you to get your ticket inside the house and she can drop more information about Alaric Knight."
"Are you sure? What if she lost her job because of me?" Adrianna was concerned about the outcomes.
"She wanted to leave that place because there were some shady things happening in that mansion…" informed Cathy.
"Shady things?" Adrianna raised her brows.
"Have you heard about recent killings in the city? Mostly women are the targets and they were found dead, blood drained from the body… my sister in law suspects Knights involvement in this case but she is nobody to raise her voice." Cathy told Adrianna about the murders.
"Yeah, I saw that in the news… I am scared too since I came late in the evening and the women who were killed were mostly corporate workers."
"Exactly, and if anything gets proved, except the rumour, you know you will be doing a favour to the world…" Cathy was hopeful about this.
Adrianna agreed with her plan and after meeting her sister in law, who willingly agreed to help Adrianna as well.
After making arrangements, she went to search for the Knights. Something stirred about her, she was afraid. She knew what she was doing and if she failed, not only did she fail to get the job but might end up in jail.
