Chapter 3 - Motherly Instincts

The day Adrianna left her home, she never returned and looked for a place to live and a job to fill her stomach during tough courses of life. Now that her only chance of finding the man who was supposedly the father of her twins, was gone, Adrianna was afraid of the pregnancy and news to the family. Laura's mistake was forgiven and she got married to Jason as a substitute. But what about her?

If she had told her family about the pregnancy, they would have kicked her out of the house, so she left without uttering any word. It was better for her own mental health as well.

It's been two months since then and Adrianna 's life was surrounded by running errands and looking for a job to feed herself and the children growing in her womb. She spend night in shelters as a homeless when nothing worked and she got no money for abortion either. She was afraid that she could handle two babies without a father?

After a while, a kind man offered her a job which only gave her a roof over her head and food to fill herself but it would be never enough to live a good life, yet talk alone about the children in her womb.

She saved quarters to get an abortion done before it could be too late.

Inside the city hospital, Adrianna was in the gynecologist clinic and after a heated discussion with the doctor, the doctor finally gave her approval for the abortion, since abortion is not very common procedure to perform but it was considered a sin too.

Adrianna was in the operation theatre for the surgery when the medical assistant entered in the theatre and instructed her.

"Take off your clothes, lie down, very quickly, three minutes without pain." The nurse sat ready to work.

Adrianna removed her clothings and wore a surgical patient gown, then she laid on the blue surgical sheet. Her heart was beating abruptly as she felt something was not right. She saw the nurse arranging the instruments on the table and it was her decision to get the babies aborted. She shouldn't be afraid, right?

She was helpless as she didn't find the man, and she didn't know who the man was. The only contact information she had was thrown away by her sister. She tried looking for the note but couldn't find it in the trash can.

Apart from looking for a place to live and a job in those two months, she was looking for that man too, but shili garden was a vast place with a dense population. There was hardly a coincidence if she had found him here.

She accepted that somehow, it was her fault too so she couldn't blame anyone for it but herself and these twins were hers too. Now that she had the right to choose for better, she decided to abort them.

Adrianna let out a long sigh and made her mind to get the abortion done, now there was no space for guilt trips.

The nurse, who was a middle-aged woman, heard Adrianna sigh and she noticed her fidgeting her fingers subconsciously. She knew that she was in a dilemma and might think about it once again.

The nurse asked her, "Dear, are you sure about this?"

Adrianna looked at her in confusion. "Sorry?"

"Do you really want to do this? you have healthy twins growing in your womb. Have you thought about it already? The procedure of abortion is irreversible. Once it's done, your babies will be gone." Said the nurse.

Adrianna flinched and breathed deeply, "what am I supposed to do? I have no decent job or anything to support myself. my partner left me." She cried.

"Is that the reason why you wanted to abort? Listen to me, once this is done, there is no guarantee that you will have another twin in the future. The chances are almost zero, or might not get pregnant again. A baby is a blessing from god and they have blessed you with two. I have been performing legal abortions since a long time but more than ninety percent of woman regretted their decision and ran for in vivo fertility centers to get pregnant again. Do you want to think about it again?" The nurse explained briefly to her.

Adrianna's eyes widened in shock, and suddenly they turned red. She was crying.

"Can I look at that sonography report again?" She looked at the nurse with hope

The nurse nodded and handed it to her, "Look here, two embryos and they are bigger than their age. it won't take long when you should be able to feel the fetal movement in a few days, and they will be born in a few months. Once they are born, your life will change and you will be entitled as a mother. You will watch them grow into beautiful persons." The nurse pointed out the two embryos in the report.

Adrianna's eyes filled with tears of joy when she saw the embryos and she felt guilty for deciding to get rid of them. Her motherly instincts kicked in, "What should I do? I'm a little reluctant."

"Then don't do it." The nurse said, "if there is a bit of hesitation, you shouldn't do it at all… and that will be considered a sin too."

"A sin?" Adrianna gasped when she heard that she was going to commit a sin.

"Yes, a sin, look, they are two lives, and they will become medical waste in three minutes."

"Trash?" Adrianna thought and was scared of the outcome, her heart twitched thinking about the crime and she got up immediately, turned to the nurse and responded, "I no longer intended to go for the surgery, I will be keeping the babies. After All, they are mine too and it's my responsibility to look after them."

The nurse smiled and nodded her head in agreement "That's great, you are brave and I know you can do it. Don't think that you are alone in this world. I have seen many women going through phases and achieving their dreams after children were born. It will pass and you will thank yourself one day…"

"Thank you!" Adrianna got dressed and bowed deeply before leaving the operation theatre.

When she came out from the hospital, she looked up at the vast blue sky and inhaled the air. She realised that these babies were hope for her future. She was purposeless and these babies gave her one. Adrianna decided that she will continue the pregnancy. After making the decision of having the kids, Adrianna blushed and smiled.

She was about to book a cab for herself when she saw an ambulance carrying a child covered in blood. There were many men in black suits and they cleared the pathway for the easy entrance of the child inside the hospital.

She volunteered to help the child and the child accidentally slipped and burst into tears in an instant.

"We need doctors to help us… please move out of the way.." one man in a suit tried to push Adrianna away.

"Wait." Someone made the man halt, "let her do it…" the voice held authority and the person appeared to be a powerful persona.

Adrianna turned her head around to look at the man who let her coax the little child, but there was no one.

The voice that she heard was different and soothing, yet low and dangerous but there was a sort of decency in the tone, "Go and coax the child."

"But, you need surgery right away." The man in a suit informed…

"Do as I say…" suddenly, a man got up from the stretcher and Adrianna's gaze landed on him, although his clothes were stained in blood, he was still bold and confident. They might have gotten into an accident and been brought here.

"Yes!" The bodyguard immediately stepped forward to help the child up and coaxed him.

The man on the stretcher sighed and looked at the child with him. He sat up on the stretcher and glanced at the child with concern

Adrianna was confused but she did her best to help the child. Meanwhile, the man glanced at her and observed her from a distance.

Adrianna felt the feeling of being watched so she turned and spotted the man staring at her. She couldn't help but glanced at the man more, he was well built and looked decent from the outfit, since his face was stained with blood, she couldn't see his face clearly.

When their gaze struck each other, Adrianna instantly felt cold all over her body. She felt awkward and turned her face to the child and informed the unsettling gaze of the stranger.

"Thank you." The man in black suit appreciated the help she offered.

Adrianna coaxed the child and made him sit inside the car. She felt the sharp eyes on her till the car had disappeared from her sight.

Subconsciously, she stroked her belly, and felt a movement inside. Adrianna was surprised, could it be that this is the legendary fetal movement?

She widened her eyes, and the corners of her lips curled up involuntarily into a smile.

Now that she was determined to raise twins alone, nothing could stop her now.
