Fifty days later, inside the city hospital…
Adrianna was trying her best to cope up with the recent incidents that happened with Her. On the one hand, her long time boyfriend and Sister Laura had slept and broke her trust, although she convinced herself that it wasn't done purposely but the damage was done.
One the other hand, the night she spent with a stranger and let him pop the cherry, thinking of him as her boyfriend, Jason. All the events had traumatized her but she was moving on with it. Since everything was in the past now, she assumed that her future won't be affected by those events.
However, for a few days, Adrianna wasn't feeling good. Something wasn't right when she kept throwing up everything she had, and felt exhausted even when she woke up fresh. Afraid of thoughts about any underlying illness, she decided to check upon a doctor.
After a while, she was taken to a gynecologist when her history was noted down.
The assistant asked Adrianna to lay on the bed in the examination room. The doctor arrived and applied gel on her lower abdomen and did an ultrasonography with a portable machine.
Adrianna realised that she had missed her periods and frequently vomited, weakness, drowsiness and frequent urination might be the symptoms of a pregnancy. That she learned in high school. Although the symptoms were clear, she crossed her fingers and hoped for the test to be turned out negative. When the results came positive, she felt the ground beneath her feets slip.
She observed the doctor sweating While performing the ultrasound which made her anxious. During the inspection, the gynecologist called another intern who was in charge of recording and asked her to note down the report, "The uterus is posterior, enlarged, regular in shape, clear in outline, and there are two gestational sacs in the uterine cavity, the size is about 2620mm, 2819mm, the thickness of the sac wall, The punctate germ and yolk sac can be seen in the sac, and the primitive cardiac pulsation can be seen."
Once the ultrasound was done, Adrianna got up but only felt convulsed. The assistant helped her to get down and took her to the bathroom.
She returned to the gynecological clinic and the doctor smiled widely at her.
The doctor greeted Adrianna, "Congratulations, Miss Adrianna, you are pregnant, and the twins are guaranteed."
This news made her eyes pop out from the socket. Alone in the world when she hoped to test come out negative, hearing the news of her getting pregnant with twins was beyond her imagination. Adrianna was utterly shocked.
"What?" Adrianna thought she had heard it wrong and tried to clear the doubt.
"Adrianna, you are pregnant with twins and so far, they are healthy. But you need to take a lot of precautions and rest once your bulge starts to come out. Just stay in contact with me, alright?" The doctor explained it to her in detail.
This conclusion made her unable to face herself at all.
Adrianna was disappointed with the news because of her pregnancy with twins. And those twins whose father she doesn't know. Oh God, twins? How was she going to cope up with this? Most terrifying was to break the news to her family. All this made her more anxious about the pregnancy. She couldn't hide it either, one day, everyone will be going to find out that she got pregnant by a stranger, a shame or disgrace to the Cosgrove family.
The day was tiring to her and Adrianna returned home with a heavy heart in her body and results in her hands. She had been trying to avoid her family's doubts on her relationship with Jason and now this pregnancy came along.
Once she entered, she saw Laura had called designers at home for selection of her wedding gown. There were three other people along with her when she gave a trial. Laura swirled in the wedding dress, looking happy.
Laura heard the door getting opened and when she turned around to see Adrianna coming home, her face turned pale and she started acting guilty.
"Any gown will work, I don't need anything fancy since this wedding is normal…" Laura responded to the designer who scrunched her brows in aww.
In an instant, Laura's face stiffened and she pretended to be a good sister, "Addy, you are back. Is everything okay? You don't look happy. Did something bother you?" She made Adrianna feel that she cared for her sister.
Laura was happy from the inside that she was getting married to Jason but everytime Adrianna came along, she made herself look embarrassed and guilty as if she had committed a crime. She called the designer specifically for the best gown but pretended that any gown will be okay for her when Adrianna returned home.
Adrianna noticed the cashmere fabric of the dress, the white wedding dress from a famous designer product of France on the other side of the ocean, which was unique and expensive too. Tears almost wet her eyes but she pretended that it didn't affect her.
Laura and Jason were getting married after the family discovered what happened in the resort. No one in the family asked Adrianna if she was fine and coping well after the traumatic event, but more concerned about Laura's wedding to Jason. They didn't want any stain on the reputation of the Cosgrove family.
Adrianna felt a sharp pain in her heart after observing the dress and the preparation s of wedding, but she took a deep breath to relax herself, and smiled at Laura, "yes, i am back from the work and i am completely fine. By the way, your wedding dress is beautiful…" it took a lot of strength for her to lie.
Laura froze for a while, her expression was a little stiff to blank as she was confused about what to say, so she pulled her lips and replied, "thank you but… I know that you still think that it was your fault. I never assumed that my little mistake would take such turns in life, otherwise it must be you who was getting married instead of me, Addy. Have you forgiven me?"
"It doesn't matter, sister. I am not angry with you, not with Jason as well. It was an accident after all and sometimes, things are not in our hands." Adrianna shook her head, "once you get married, Jason will be my brother-in-law, or the son-in-law of our Cosgrove family. There would be nothing else."
Only she knew that her heart was on fire when she consoled her own sister and it hurt her so much.
After all, it was her boyfriend who had been in love with her for several years, and now he had turned into a brother-in-law. Apart from that, She was pregnant with twins and she didn't know who the father of the children was. Everything made her feel alone and helpless.
"Addy, you are such a kind person. I wish you will be happy with someone one day" Laura held her hands tightly.
Adrianna shook her head and replied "Sister, it's okay. And i no longer feel anything for Jason so, don't feel burdened."
Laura pressed her lips in a flat line and stayed silent then replying to her sister.
"I guess you are busy, I will go upstairs and freshen up…" Adrianna left and Laura rolled her eyes once her sister went to her room.
Adrianna wanted to find that note she got from the stranger when they spent the night together. She was devastated to find out that there were two lives growing in her womb. And yet she doesn't know who the father was?
As soon as she entered her room, she found everything was tied up and furniture was readjusted. Adrianna baffled and started looking for the note as it contained the address and phone number of the person who was the father of the twins.
The blood-stained note she was looking for was gone.
She quickly went downstairs, and stood at the corner of the stairs, asking Laura about the note, "Sister, did you clean the room?"
"Not me but I asked the cleaners to rearrange the room." She responded.
"Did they find any note? There was some stain of blood on it.." Adrianna gave a brief idea of the note.
"Oh, that dirty note? Yes, the maid brought it to me and I asked her to dispose of it. It was so unhygienic." Said Laura
"Did you throw it away?" Adrianna was stunned.
"Yes. Did I do something wrong?" She asked with guilt.
Adrianna looked at her, she was helpless now. She felt suffocating inside the house so she walked out.
"where are you going?" Laura asked.
"Ten Mile Garden." Adrianna responded coldly.
Laura was stunned, and there was a hint of hesitation flashed across her eyes, "alright…"
In a blink of an eye, Adrianna disappeared from Laura's sight.
