Chapter 25 - The Phoenix

Nazim couldn't decipher the kind of hatred and jealousy he felt at that moment.

'Why was Madison going through all this trouble just for Kontas? Why must it be him every single time?' Those questions bothered Nazim, he didn't like the way Madison's attention was always on Kontas.

"Your highness"Kontas bowed.

King Varog was in shock, he could feel how strong his powers are now that the spell locking down his gate of energy has been destroyed.

Kontas' powers were intimidating him, that was the reason he locked it before.

"You are up? And your gate is open?" King Varog stuttered.

"Yes it is, and it is all thanks to someone" he replied as he stared secretly at Madison who avoided his eyes at all costs.

"Wow, brother, I am happy for you"Hezra grinned and he was really happy.

"Thanks, Hezra"

"You broke a rule, remember?" Queen Xavia interfered.

When Kontas woke up after a month and didn't see Madison, whom he thought would be the first person he would see when he woke up, he wasn't happy.

His gate of energy was open and he felt more alive. His energy filled the whole place and he couldn't help but let the tears drop. How many years has it been now?

He has always felt so suffocated. But now, he felt more alive.

"You look strong Kontas" Miss Semet grinned as he watched the same boy he trained shed tears of joy.

"I feel stronger. Where is Madison"

"Do you think she was the one that opened your gate of energy?" Lydian asked, still not believing that she had no hand in what happened to him.

"Let's not talk about that now, maybe later. Am sure she is Catelyn .But where is she?"Kontas asked.

When they both told him what decisions the royals had made and how Madison had probably gone to give them a piece of her mind, Kontas lost it.

Not because of the decision of the royal, but because of Madison.

Immediately that was said, he hurried to the throne where he heard every single conversation that went on between Madison and King Varog.

And when he saw the smile on Madison's face before she hugged him, he couldn't resist her, so he hugged her back, making everyone in the room surprised.

"I said you broke a rule"Queen Xavia repeated, bringing Kontas back to what was on the ground.

As he saw Madison taking a step to confront her, he held her back. Kontas didn't want her causing any trouble.

"I know, and I will take my punishment"

"Are you serious right now? You didn't do anything wrong. Those bastards would have killed you if you haven't done anything"Madison snapped.

She doesn't understand these gods no matter how hard she tries to.

"Madison, I broke a rule and I should pay for it"

"What stupid rule is that? Why is the rule only used on you? I have seen a lot of gods kill someone and they didn't do anything to them, so why is your own different".

Madison was raging and she didn't even bother hiding it. She made sure they saw how vexed she was and promised them with every glare that they will pay for everything.

"Then it is decided, let's all go outside to begin the punishment, "King Varog said as he led everyone that was in the throne room outside.

As Kontas was about to follow them outside, Madison stopped him by blocking his way.

"What do you think you are doing right now?"

"I should be asking you, Madison, who do you think you are to be threatening the king?"Kontas roared.

He was so angry with her, did she think that she was untouchable?

"I was just trying to protect you," Madison whispered. She didn't understand why he was so mad at her. She was only trying to help.

"Did I ask for help?"

"What did you just say?"Madison asked surprised

"I didn't ask for your help Madison, so stop trying to stand out. Even due you may not be human, continue to act the way you have been acting. Like a human" with that being said, Kontas walked away leaving her dazzled.

"You are right, I should just keep pretending to be human" she whispered as she wiped away the drop of tears that came out of her eyes.

But what he said was hash. How could he say such a thing to her after everything she has done?

"Don't cry Madison, is better this way" she whispered, hitting her chest as she walked out of the room.

When Madison went outside of the room, she was surprised to see gods and goddesses all around. She wondered how they got there so fast.

Kontas was kneeling on the floor in front of everyone shirtless and his back had the drawing of a phoenix visible for every eye to see.

"I just received a message from the great goddess and your punishment has been changed, "king Varog asked making Kontas raise his head to look at him

"You will no longer be shamed by the punishment, but you will be flogged till your spirit beast appears". Kontas was shocked, he wasn't expecting that at all.

Madison was also taken aback by what the king said, what was he trying to do again?

"With every hit, you will die a thousand deaths. You won't be able to heal or help yourself, the only person that can help you, is your spirit beast. Let the punishment begin" he roared as an old man infused a spell into an iron rod. And with that, he used to hit Kontas.

Madison couldn't believe what she was seeing. Kontas was lying on the floor bleeding all over, still, they were hitting him.

They didn't stop.

Even when Kontas roared in pain, they still didn't stop. She couldn't watch anymore, it was too painful.

"You have to stop them, Lydian, they are going to kill him, "Madison said with tears.

"I can't do anything even if I wish to help. Am powerless" said Lydian regretting.

"Then are we just going to watch him die?" She yelled.

"Kontas can't die easily, he is the strongest guy I have ever seen"

Madison knew just that, she was just worried for nothing.

The gasps from the people around and the way Lydian's eyes went wide all of a sudden made Madison take her attention from Lydian back to Kontas. And what she saw left her breathless.

The Phoenix drawing that was on Kontas's back was on fire, it was burning.

And they were claws coming out of his hand. Everyone moved back in fear, but Madison couldn't move from her spot. It was like there was a spell holding her down.

No matter how Lydian tried to push her back, she remained rooted in her spot. She couldn't remove her eyes from him.

Madison kept on watching Kontas howl and wail through his transition. All of his body was on fire, and they couldn't see anything through the fire.

But what they saw when the fire went down wasn't what they anticipated.

They were no longer looking at Kontas the leader of the warriors' but instead, they were looking at a phoenix.
