Chapter 6 - An Unfortunate woman

Everyone one in room panicked when they saw the Duchess collapsing, though everyone only included Clara, Jessy and Edward. Edward checked her condition but found nothing wrong with her. All her body functions were normal with no signs of poisoning or being drunk. Whatever it was, it didn't seem like a hangover. Though there seemed to be no problem, she was slowly loosing her life and turned even paler looking as if she will die any moment sooner or later, line a candle flickering in the wind.

Edward Morris a genius and the youngest doctor in the Kingdom who could cure anything and everything, and even bring the person on the brink of death back to life felt helpless and frustrated for the first time in his life. Before he could start blaming himself, Jessy asked Clara to go find Elaine as their mistress asked as soon as possible. She calmed her agitation and immediately gave instructions to her younger sister who seemed to have lost her calm and panicked.

Seeing Jessy remain calm, Edward calmed himself and tried various methods to help her regain her consciousness but to no avail. He asked Jessy to get help from the other servants to immediately bring hot water and other necessities. But no matter what Jessy or Edward said, the Duke's servants never budged as if the matter of the duchess's life was not of their concern and even gave the excuse that they needed permission from the Duke for such matters. For her mistress Jessy was even willing to beg for help from that disgusting man, but how could she ask for help from someone who was never there?

The servants in the Duke's Manor didn't care much about their Duchess though they pitied her, so as not to anger their master. Whoever in his house who pitied the Duchess and helped her never had a good ending. Knowing that, she never let the Manor's servants serve her. And thus Jessy, Clara and her nanny Emma were all she had to accompany her.

Though in the beginning of her marriage, the condition in the manor was harmonious and calm. Though they were not in a loving relationship he treated her with respect. In the first place she agreed to the marriage because he seemed decent and was a Swordsmaster, whom she could exchange blows whenever she felt like. They were all nothing but empty dreams.

But still after spending time with him for the first few months she slowly fell in love with him and even that man himself showed some interest in her. But suddenly after about three months in her marriage when she realised she was pregnant with his child his behaviour towards her started changing. He started becoming aggressive and found faults with her, brought ruin to her family and kept their lives as hostage to get her to do things whenever he needed.

It came as a shock to her, and since it happened in the 7th month of her pregnancy she gave birth to Annalise prematurely. Even though she was born prematurely she was strangely healthy and she let her nanny, Emma take care of her daughter since she was more experienced in child care

Adriana never held her child fearing that her daughter who looked delicate and petite like a pretty little doll, who inherited her father's silver hair and Ruby like eyes might break at her touch. Even if the child was healthy she was quite smaller for a child her age until at the age of 13, when she suddenly grew tall and healthier than ever. But by then she could never hold her child afterall they grew distant due to lack of communication between them.

A mother obsessed with providing a complete family for her daughter and getting her family safely out of her husband's clutches and a daughter who gave up getting love and attention from her family and got attached to her fiancé, who would always smile at her. A child is more sensitive to relationships than adults and a child who craves for attention once tastes a bit of affection starts obsessing over it for fear of loosing it. Such was the relationship between Annalise and her fiance, pure obsession on her part while the douche bag only cared about the power of the dukedom behind her, all for the sake of gaining a good standing during the succession war.
