Chapter 11 - Memories

When she was about six months into her pregnancy, she learnt of her family's ruin. Her father was betrayed by his only younger brother whom he doted on. She couldn't find out the exact reason of her family's ruin and nobody told her, and evidence to prove her family's innocence were cleanly erased. And her husband saved her family at the last moment from being completely ruined.

She was forbidden from visiting her family, the one who forbid her was her own father. She never knew the reason. She wanted to see her mother and begged her father to see her. She didn't notice the pity in the eyes of the onlookers.

Hearing his daughter's pleas, all he could do was scold her harshly, hiding his torn heart, his hidden tears and forbid her from approaching her family. She went back to the Duke's mansion only to wallow in despair.

And barely a month after that her husband talked about a contract she never remembered signing with him. He asked her not to call for him or even appear before him unless he asked to and that since her family is in his palm she must obey whatever he wishes for, if she wanted the safety of her unborn child. And that she could never talk about the contract to anyone else.

All these factors induced the woman to give birth prematurely. The only one's by her side were Emma and her children who were too young to know of how a child was born.

After Adriana gave birth, she realised the two sisters were traumatised and gave up thinking of love and marriage if the process of birth was going to be so torturing. But Adriana had no memories of giving birth all she remembered was the pain and her incessant screams that lasted for who knows long.

And after giving birth she realised that her powers were going rampant and she couldn't control her strength. She broke every single thing in her way with a single touch. Thus she couldn't even hold her child nor see her for fear that she might hurt her.

During those times she had to shut herself in a place far from were people stayed. Thus she left behind her people in the mansion to take care of Annalise while she tried to get her powers under control. It was during this time that she slowly remembered her forgotten memories of her mother's and her relatives deaths.

But that man was nowhere to be found when she needed his support. Since the child was born he never looked at her and didn't want to hear her voice. For that very reason, the child was given a room at the extreme end of the mansion, an area quite shabby compared to the mansion as a whole, alienated from the entire mansion.

But because she was the Duchess and had to do whatever he asked at his beck and call, had to stay a bit near his Study, but still far away from his bedroom as if she was some sort of a disease. Her room initially, before all the despairing matters occurred was the room adjacent to his. Everything changed too soon but none of that mattered to her compared to finding out who was plotting against her family.

And thus the carefree woman that she was before her marriage was reduced to a despairimg woman, who didn't even have the right to cry out due to the machinations of a crooked pervert.

Adriana who was unconscious was actually trapped in the world of her memories and slowly saw the aftermath of the massacre, her ruined family, the mausoleum were she was trapped after leaving the mansion after her divorce, her daughter's corpse, and the events leading to her beheading.

When Adriana mentioned that her whole family was executed with her daughter, it wasn't the Duke's mansion but her family, her crippled father, her brothers and their innocent family. Someone was targetting her family and wanted to root out their entire existence.

Adriana looked at her memories through the eyes of an onlooker and noticed that everything from her meeting the man and marriage to her death seemed to have been planned flawlessly.

Whoever it was behind all these atrocities, Adriana started to doubt whether it had something to do with their ancestry and that someone found out about it. After all there was no reason other than that, since all the families that faced destruction were related to her maternal family.
