The wind blew softly, barely noticeable, and certainly not enough that he had to adjust for it, his comfortable laying position atop the metal ruins, giving him plenty of stability.
Almost eerily, there was no noise besides the soft ruffle of the wind blowing through the large oak trees that filled the forest.
Soon, however, he knew that would change.
With the target confirmed, having been spotted walking into the make shift metal complex, along with the go ahead from his superiors, he knew this quite night would quickly descend into the loud chaos that is war.
He personally, had doubted the information when it first came in, it seeming to be a wild goose chase thrown at them.
So he was certainly surprised when, not just the target, but the entire upper echelon was spotted inside of this make shift hideout, after all, why would people used to such high levels of luxury ever be willing to down grade to such a place.
Either way, this meant one thing was for certain, or two things he supposed.
For one, it seemed that the target was not just playing games and really meant to plunge everyplace into war.
And for two, the information had to come from the inside, there is no way anyone from his side would be able to get such information.
For such a thing, it was really to bad that he had no way of knowing exactly, who, had given the information, if he knew, he would definitely try to get the man out alive.
Nonetheless, that's just how life goes when you work as a special ops sniper for the US, though at the very least if he saw someone who looked like he could be the informant, he personally would not kill him, that's really the best he could do.
With a quick check of the watch, he snugged up to his rifle, looking through the scope towards the top of the make shift "base".
The "base" if it deserved to be called such, was a large four story building that appeared to be made from scrap metal. Glancing about the entire structure, he was surprised to see no hole's that gave him a view of the inside. Though as this was where the top brass where, he supposed that the scrap metal outer appearance was just a disguise, he certainly would not be surprised if the inside was full of luxurious carpets and decor.
Looking to the entrances he counted only four guards at each entrance, with them looking more like local thugs than trained guards. Up on the roof top, he saw only two guards, clearly meaning that his job would mostly come into play after the rest of his team made their entrance.
With a last glance at his watch, the man on the ruined buildings roof, took one last look at the surrounding area, before tapping his mic three times, and aiming at the head of the closest of the guards on the roof, him being noticeably visible due to his lit cigarette and him leaning against the roofs wall, he then let out a breath, and putting his finger on the trigger, knowing, that with the simple movement of pulling, it would cause war to blow out, with the simple pull of his trigger, the rest of his team would make their move.
------------------------
It was an unusually quiet night, It put me on edge, even more than I already was, and how could I not be? I had given extremely valuable information to the US.
If anyone even got a hint of what I had done, I would be lucky if I got executed on the spot.
Nonetheless, I HAD to give them the information, once I found out what my leaders were planing, I knew I had to stop it from even having a chance of happening, not just for the world, but especially for my country, mainly for my country, to be honestly I could careless about what happens to the rest of the world, if it doesn't fall apart now, it will fall apart later.
As luck would have it, I got assigned roof top duty, it was my personal favorite area to guard, not only did I get some peace and quite, as guarding the roof top was always pretty chill, but, most importantly, it aloud me to ignore what was happening below.
The rich and powerful seemed to always have their way, and as much as I disliked it, being just a simple guard, I could not do anything to help, well most of the time, I had helped a few escape, not directly mind you, that would be to dangerous, rather, by simply turning my back to any of their activity, and while most probably didn't make it I like to think that a few did,.
Not that it happened very often in the first place.
Pulling out my box of Hongtashan I took out a cigarette, and reached into my pocket for my lighter. While most of my brothers in arms made fun of me for only smoking this Chinese cigarette, I had already melded to its taste, plus its fairly cheap compared to other brands.
Oh
I forgot, of course the one day this week that I have roof duty, I forget my lighter.
Looking to the other man on roof duty, a guy named Wo Leng I immediately decide against asking him for a light, not only did he take my usual spot, leaning against the metal front roof wall, but we also don't usually get along well, though that's putting it lightly.
Putting my pack of cigarettes back into my pocket, I walk over and sit down, leaning against the large metal block at the edge of the roof, it was made to look like the staircase to the roof, though I think that was a pretty stupid idea.
Looking out and around I noticed that I could barely see even the top of the ruins over the meter high metal wall that goes along the entire rooftop. The ruins that are over in front of the building, being about a few hundred meters out, was the place I was station a year or so ago, before our upper echelon built this base.
Now its just another empty ruin in this area, though that is something else that I think was stupid, after all, those ruins look over not just this base, but the entire forest, get a sniper up their and he would be a great addition to the defense.
My eyes snap over to Wo as he lights up a cigarette of his own, looking at me with a grin, I guess he noticed that I forgot my...
Wait....
Looking closer at the lighter in his hand I realized that it was mine!
No wonder I didn't bring it with me! That damn Wo Leng stole it!
*Thc!*
Clicking my tongue I look away from him, not in the mood to fight with that idiot, I can always take it back later, as well as his lighter.
....
....
...wait...
Glancing back towards the ruins I quickly brought back my thought process...
A good place for defense....
But, wouldn't it be even better for an at..?
In that split second the wind blew slightly harder than normal, following it, a swoosh, splat, and thump.
Wo Leng's body fell back landing one the roof.
Moving nearly on just instinct I dove towards the front wall, landing next Wo's body, though most importantly, out of view of the sniper.
Thoughts raced through my head as my adrenaline filled my bloodstream and my heart beat sped up.
While the ruins would be a good place to put a sniper for defense, it would be WAY better for an attack.
It had to be the Americans right? I had given them the information all most a week ago, that was plenty of time to verify it and make a plan of attack.
My heart kept thumping faster and faster as a few more shots rang out, the alarm was sounded and the chaotic sounds filled the air, with all soldiers in the base, whether resting from a long day shift, or on duty for the night shift, they all had one thing in common.
None of them were ready, all having gotten fairly complacent as they had been stationed here fro nearly a year with no activity.
Nonetheless, they were trained soldiers, and as such even in the chaos and disarray, the over two hundred troops at the very least all had basic clothing and a full weaponry.
Deciding it would be better if everyone assumed I was also dead, I stayed put, only crawling over to get my backpack and moving back to cover.
Time seemed to move much slower than I wanted it to, as I listened to every sound I could as well as my communicator. once the Americans moved in with force, the sound of gun shots filled the air, with most of the fighting taking place inside I felt some sort of safety, though I knew it would not last long.
The fact that there was an attack of any kind meant someone was a traitor, and with me being noticeable nervous this last week, I was bound to end up as the first suspect, not that my track record help at all.
My current biggest worry was that I would be unable to defend myself, as we, the outside guards, had to pretend to not be military, we only had melee weapons on us, thus, my rifle was back in my room.
After what felt like nearly an entire day, but was actually just a half hour or so, the sound of gun fire fell down to a much smaller amount, and based on the chaos and yelling coming from my communicator, the Americans had been well prepared and were close to winning.
With the information I gave them, they had been able to seal off all the escape routes planed, and with that, the information came out that I was the traitor, and unsurprisingly, the main target for the Americans, a man named Yoon Seoul, the current leader of our country, was more than just a little pissed, wanting to kill me himself.
As soon as the information came out that I was assigned roof duty, I knew it was time for me to fight my way out and escape.
Quickly gathering my things and hoping the sniper would not notice me, or at least ignore me, I got up and ran over to the real staircase down into the base.
Unsurprisingly I could hear foot steps coming up, most likely people sent to both check if I was still alive, and to see if they could use the roof as an escape route.
Getting ready, I hid behind the fake staircase and waited for them to come around the corner.
My heart thumped as they got closer, I never planed on killing any of my brothers, but, as they were coming to kill me, I felt I had not choice.
As soon as they reached the roof, I was surprised to learn that I would not have to kill my brothers, as as soon as they came into view, the soft gun shot of a suppressed sniper rang out, before another and another, the sniper from the ruins, taking them out.
Seeing as the sniper had not killed me, I guessed that he had some how figured out that I was their informant.
Rushing over I grabbed a rifle from one of my fallen brothers, before, closing all of their eyes.
Slowly, I made my way down the stair case, carefully listening to my communicator as well as any other sounds.
Soon I had made my way to my bed room, being on a balcony it over viewed the conference room where Leader Yoon could be seen pacing back and forth, luckily all the soldiers up here having been drawn away, once in my room I grabbed all my stuff, switching my brothers rifle for my own, and most importantly, putting a large rope over my shoulder. Getting up I peaked out to make sure the balcony was empty.
I was about to make my way back to the roof but I heard something that made me freeze, down in the conference room Leader Yoon and the rest of the top brass were planing a complete retreat, and destruction of the current base.
The thing that made me freeze, is that it seemed they had not just one but three, back up escape routes that I had never gotten wind of, and of course, that they had long since laced the entire building with high end explosives.
Knowing that if they actually implemented this new plan not only would they successfully get away but all the American elite soldiers on this mission would be killed, with the exception of the lone sniper in the ruins.
After quickly coming to a decision I pulled up my rifle to aim at Leader Yoon, though in my haste I bumped it against the balcony railing causing everyone to look up at me.
Not letting them use my mistake to their advantage, I lined up my sights with Leader Yoon, and seeing the pure anger and hatred in his eyes, I didn't hesitate to pull the trigger shooting him in the chest, thankful of the fact I kept my rifle on full auto rather than single fire, quickly emptying my mag into all the top brass I could, I pulled a pin and dropped a flash bang as I ran toward the staircase.
The flash bang exploded, causing a bright flash to fill the eyes of everyone who looked up towards me, and filling my ears with a loud ringing, almost causing my head to spin.
Making it to the staircase, I shook my head as I ran up at a full sprint, only slowed down by the weight of my belongings.
Getting on the roof, I quickly ran to the western edge, on the left side of the building if your facing the ruins, and dropped my stuff to the floor, unraveling the rope I attached it to two holes I had previously ground out in the wall, throwing the rest over the edge.
As I reached for my backpack, I saw a shadow peak past the fake staircase, going with my instinct, I let go of the idea of taking all my things with me, and directly jump over the wall and off the roof.
Grabbing the rope I quickly slide down to the ground, though it was more like falling with just enough friction on the rope to keep me from getting hurt as I slammed to the ground, getting up, I sprinted into the forest, unable to believe I just did something like that and came out without any injuries. My gloves have protected my hands from burning, if not shredding my palms apart.
Running through the forest I considered what to do, there were most definitely people chasing after me, and based on that alone, I guessed that the sniper on the ruins had moved else where and would not be of any help, and jumping off the building had caused my pistol to fall to the ground, having only noticed it missing right now.
Looking around I noticed a tree way off in front of me that looked to have some sort of snipers nest built up into it, deciding to go for it, I ran towards it, and once I got to it, I jumped up grabbing the bark of the tree and climbing it up to the top, making it up just in time as I saw flashlights from the rifles of the soldiers following me.
Looking around the snipers nest, I all most questioned whether it was actually a sniper nest or not, as it was really well put together and all most seemed more like a tree house. Making myself comfortable, with my mind racing and hoping that things worked out for the best, I got ready ready for the long night ahead.
Though things tend to not all ways go as planed, as within an hour of being in the snipers nest the one thing I was trying to avoid came over me, I fell asleep.
------------------------
Waking up with a jolt the first thing I noticed was the sun shining through the trees.
Feeling quite happy that I was not killed in my sleep, I quickly climbed down the tree only to freeze as two patrolling soldiers noticed me and walked towards me, what worried me the most was they were both clearly South Korean soldiers, and if news of my betrayal got around, it would be really bad for me.
As luck would have it, not only were they low ranking soldiers, being assigned to keep the public safe(Doing police work) and who had never heard of me, but they got a call in the middle of our conversation and left to handle something else.
After they left, I turned and walked to the road that clearly was rarely used, before I could even start walking along it, a black van came out of nowhere, drifting to a stop in front of me.
The door opening before it even stopped, two people, a man and woman, both looking to be Special Ops Trained at the very least, both jumped out only to pull me back inside right as several South Korean military Humvee's drove towards us, shutting the door just in time to block hundreds of bullets hitting the side of the van.
"Finally found you General *** ****! Welcome to the Korean Alliance!" The woman said looking at me with a wide smile.
Clearly, this was NOT a normal van.
and
Clearly, these were NOT normal people.
