Chapter 27 - A New Addition

The sodiers were ready, Cadin stood in the middle, bowstring pulled, showing no fear in front of the cavalry still yelling as they got closer.

After getting close enough, Cadin released his arrow at the cavalry. The arrow struck the leading horseman, throwing him off his horse while the rest still moved onward.

"On my command men!" Cadin began emptying his quiver, using all arrows he had left. Each one met their mark on the horses or the horsemen themselves, culling their numbers. But the horde was still charging straight at him.

"Spears forrward!" Immediately, the men thrusted their spears forward. As the cavalry entered, riders and horses slammed into the sudden barrier of spears in front of them. From both sides soldiers fell, riders and their horses slammed into the ground while spearmen were thrown back.

Cadin continued shooting until he finally ran out, seeing as the defense had failed and the remaining horsemen moved past the soldiers.

Cadin took out his sword, ready to try and fight the horsemen off. One after the other their swords crashed against each other, pushing Cadin back inch by inch with each strike.

As the barrage stopped, the horsemen split into two groups, preparing to strike, noticing the soldiers standing near the entranceway.

The soldiers looked in fear upon their positions getting spotted, starting to run back to the tents and other forms of cover.

While the horses were busy trying to hunt the other soldiers, Cadin ran towards one of the bodies, holding a spear lodged in his chest. He ripped it out, gripping it with both hands while blood dripped from the tip.

A single cavalry soldier noticed him amidst the chaos of soldiers running and fighting back desperately against the new enemy.

The horseman charged forward, readying his arm for a swing. Cadin looked at the rider, tightening the grip on the still durable spear.

He drove the spear into the rider himself, stopping the attack and sending him to tue ground. Tearing it out of the man, Cadin ran for the others.

Cadin and the soldiers began fighting off the assaulting horsemen, using their weapons to take down the horse or rider.

Cadin ran around with his spear, actively hunting down the remaining riders, sending the spear into their bodies, killing them quick and sparing the horses.

The battle came to an end with horses running aimlessly ariund the camp, a few running out into the wild.

"Find any injured and get the remaining prisoners, this is our camp now, but we shall return to our home first with these prisoners." Cadin saw as the remaining soldiers picked up their wounded comrades, dragging or pulling up the wounded horsemen, barely alive.

He went up to the horse. It was larger than what he was accustomed to before, calmer and more docile but held more strength in it. He put his hand on it's snout. The horse was still calm inside the wooden fenced area of the camp.

"My lord, will we bring these beasts to our home?"

Cadin soon realized the toll of deaths from the requested forces, many wounded with a small number dead.

"We may hold this camp, though it is farther than our main one. These horses will provide and quick passage to both of them. Order the requested soldiers later that they may leave once these prisoners are taken and houses somewhere in the camp."

Cadin jumped over the fence, walking amongst the majestic warhorses. He began mounting them, putting his boot on the stirrup until he firmly sat on top of it.

"Interesting, it seems you have good knowledge on these things my lord."

"Indeed, i will bring these horses back to our camp, normally they would eat normal wheat so put in a request for some, offer weapons for trade if we must."

"Very well my lord."

Cadin began tying the horse leads to his own, making sure that they follow. The fence had a small gate that could be opened, standing on the side.

"Hopefully that demon also corrupts these people. They may be useful if they join me."

Cadin watched as the army began forming up with who they had left, bringing now awake prisoners and wounded with them.

Pushing the fence gate open, he emerged with the other horses.

Soldiers looked in awe upon witnessing the large beasts towering above them, moving past to the exit.

"Soldiers we shall march our way back home, Joken, where are we on the map?" Joken ran up to Cadin, hastily unfolding the map.

"Just north of here is the camp my lord."

"Very well, let us see where this pathway in front of us leads to though. It may be useful for us as well."

In a minute the army left, Cadin leading in the front with a group of large warhorses, neighing while they moved. Joken moved with them but stayed a short distance away from the horses, visibly concerned with their presence.

The pathway went on for a long while, Joken continued looking down at the map, trying to find their location but showing a face of visible confusion.

"My lord, this pathway was never recorded on our most recent made map." He spoke in shock, still looking at the map.

"Then this is new, start noting down where we are and path's direction, perhaps we could use this."

The path continued on for nearly a whole hour of marching until the faint sound of water splashing and crowds talking alerted them, echoing out from the trees on their right.

"That must be home."

Cadin shifted the horses, moving through the less dense forest trees with the soldiers marching behind. They spoke to each other, all talking on the hirses with curiosity and fascination, having never witnessed one before.

The sounds got louder and louder until, through the trees and the faint light, they came across the camp from a distance.

They marched towards the camp entrance, workers outside looked in amazement at Cadin and the creatures. Guards at the gate readied their weapons, shocked upon witnessing the animals.
