"We are desperate, similar to you. If this truly is a joke, we shall cut any communication from you and your people." The leader rolled up the map, standing up to leave.
The group stood up, pushing back their chairs to start leaving.
"Cadin, as part of the soldiers, consider this a way to rise the ranks, since you're not so well liked by the soldiers due to your rather odd appearance and the fact that you hail from nowhere, appearing seemingly out of the forest itself." The leader explained while they walked down the hall towards the stairs.
The tribe's leader approached them on the walk, moving closer towards them, about to say something to the two.
"So, what of this man makes him so special that he's the only one sent?" He asked in an unimpressed tone."
"Do you remember the Heris tribe camp just south of here?"
"Yes, a bunch of raiders, those scoundrels are."
"This man over here, single handedly destroyed the camp. And managed to win without losing a single man." The leader's face was filled with surprise after hearing it.
"That i cannot believe, but i shall take your proposition, i will let him provide aid to us by destroying the scattered camps." The two shook their hands, concluding their deal.
The group exited out of the building, taking their weapons again to leave.
"Say Cadin, where did you get that sword?"
"I found this sword from a corpse, a really neat sword he had." Cadin managed to reply, hoping the leader wouldn't continue.
"Interesting, hope you are alright with the sudden arrangement."
"It works my lord, as a soldier of my new home I will continue helping." Cadin finished talking, feeling a sense of joy inside him, realizing the new opportunity to make him rise higher.
They stopped inside a small tent, the tribe's leader along with a few others circled around a table carrying a map.
"Oh, you may leave and head home. Once the task is over we will bring him back and you will get your part of the deal after in full." The leader nodded his head, leaving Cadin with the tribe and their people.
"Alright, Cadin correct?" He nodded in response, moving slowly towards the table to look at the map.
"There are five camps in mind, the plan is to take what they have quickly and bring them back. Only a small group of men are available, so I hope that the leader was not lying. All you need to do is follow us to the camps and destroy them, make sure it's quick, before the moon rises, the tribal camps should fall, you will be brought back to your home with escort. Prepare yourself, the mission starts now." After speaking, the soldiers dispersed, and the leader stepped out with an unfurled map. The people walked around Cadin, hard at work for the day as they carried around metal among other things.
Outside the camp Cadin awaited the rest, already prepared for combat, awaiting further orders from his new leader.
The leader stepped out with a group of soldiers, their armor mostly composed of shining iron, carrying longswords of good quality alongside a steel helmet bearing a single slit for the eyes to view, but completely sealing the rest of the head.
"Hopefully you live up to what was spoken, follow us." With the soldiers readied up, they set off, walking down a cleared pathway.
The sun was hot at this time, Cadin walked the way with his cloak above his head, annoyed by the heat striking him.
Minutes passed by, from moving on the open path to walking inside the forest, they arrived at one of the camps, large but only surrounded by a row of long and sharp wooden stakes. Cadin stared silently at the camp through the trees.
"Just kill every single soldier there, if any surrender, take them." Cadin nodded his head at the leader, standing next to him. The group of soldiers walked around behind them, hiding in the shade.
"This better guarantees that rise in rank." Cadin grabbed his sword, readying himself for a fight. Outside of the dense foliage, the soldiers started rushing out to fight him, their armor was weaker, simply tunics of thin leather with just a few donning studded or thicker layers of leather, their weapons were an assortment of farm equipment to professional weapons, worn and beaten.
Cadin jumped above the wooden stakes, now just steps away from the charging horde of fighters.
His sword met the barely armored soldiers, he swung at the first ones that approached him, slamming them to the ground with quick strikes, the soldiers moved back, visibly frightened by the sudden attack. Cadin began assaulting the rest, slashing his longsword around to gripping the sword with both hands, slamming it into their chests. The crowd quickly surrounded him, slashing and slamming their weapons towards the lone fighters to little effect, he continued taking out those directly in front of him. The atmosphere was filled with a mix of shouts and cries for help as more soldiers fell, dead to severely injured on the grass.
The shouts and cries of fighters slowly died out, around Cadin, the grass field was covered in corpses, his armor was coated in blood, his sword drenched, and no noticeable wounds.
After the battle, the leader and his men stepped out of cover.
"Impressive, so he was right, you do have quite some skill in combat." The leader said to him, impressed by the feat.
The soldiers walked into the camp, beginning to strip it off everything it had still inside it.
"The next camp is just west of here." He explained, leaving to check on the soldiers the plunder they took.
"We will drop the plunder in the nearby camp of ours, by then we shall head for the next camp. Move with caution however, many of them carry bows." Cadin nodded his head, the two looked back at the soldiers, taking what plunder remained.
