I reckoned her and her fighting skills. They were s These ones were humans so it was possible for her to deal with all of them. They were a piece of cake for her! But something deep in me did not want to leave her here. What if the vampires attack her and.....
I didn't want to think of the worst.
" like I said earlier, we'll fight this together". I said as I pulled out my own sword and surreptitiously glared at the men, more than ready to have a fight.
" Milady! I mustn't let you do this. my duty is to protect you! " She announced and goose bumps grew on my white skin. Her voice was powerful and the way she just spoke was intransigent.
" Mine is to protect you too". I blurted out, steep to my own words as I turned to face the enemy that were staring intently at us.
" just go! ". she dragged me and pushed me away.
I wanted to protest when another of the men, unaware to us shot an arrow, aiming for my abdomen. When Renee saw the flying arrow, she came apace and pushed me again, making me fall on the ground hard.
I groaned as my palm grazed the rough ground.
I took my head up and caught a sight of the arrow plunging through her stomach and she wavered before she fell to the ground.
" RENEE!!". I yelled as I crawled to her side on the ground with tears ready to fall from my eyes anytime soon.
I knelt beside her and laid her head on my laps, tenaciously holding her hands.
My eyes travelled down to the arrow that was plunged in her stomach and her clothing there was already becoming soaked in her own blood.
My white orbs went back to her face, and her expression looked pained and agonizing. The poison on the arrow! I became apprised. There was poison on the arrow.
" Renee...". a single tear dropped from my eyes as I cupped her right cheeks in my left palm, my insides were getting filled with trepidation. The feeling of losing her. The poison could kill anyone within few hours. I don't know what's on that arrow, the kind of poison used on the tip of that arrow, all I was aware of is that it was very daring and dangerous. I pondered the kind of pain Renee must be going through right now.
" milady.. ". she replied as blood trickled down the sides of her lips. The poison was already taking it's effects on her body. She opened her eyes as she withdrew her right hand for my grip and shoved it into the pocket of her loose brown pants and brought out a gold necklace with a black pendant and faint white lines in it , similar to the structure of my nails and handed it to me.
" your....yo.. ur moth.. er said I must give this.... this to you after we escape, but I don't think the both...of..of us will be a.able to escape together". Renee stuttered as more blood gushed out of her mouth, splashing on my face.
" Renee! ". I cried out as I cleaned her mouth with my palm, caring less about what she just said and more tears escaped my eyes.
" milady leave. ". She ordered in a tired and faint voice.
" No!". I replied with anger and trifle.
I was angry that I won't be able to save Renee and the men, I can't fight them. If I try on fighting back, they would just shoot arrows at me, then I will lay dead. That will be the end of me. And it must not be because I still have to carry out my vengeance for my parent's death and Renee who would soon also leave me.
" Urrgh!". She hissed as she creased her brows and took her hand to the arrow plunged in her stomach before pulling it out slowly and she groaned as she did so.
Without strain, Renee pushed herself from my laps and stood up with a limp and threw the arrow away.
" I can handle them. just leave already". she beseeched with her words. Her eyes were not on me but the men that were staring at us as if they were watching a movie. To me, I think they were waiting for Renee to fall dead first before they move to attack me.
She badly wanted to protect me, I could see it in her eyes. The way she stared at me, I could feel and see it and I felt the same.
" But...". I was about to speak when she cut me short.
" No buts. leave!!" She growled at me and I quickly stood straight and began stepping back slowly with uncertainty in my steps.
I wanted to listen to her even if I was fighting deep within me not to go.
I stared at her face one last time, to have a picture of her pretty face in my head before I turn.
Was this really happening to me?. Everything was leaving me. First my kingdom, then my parents. Now it's Renee.
Why was I so unlucky?.
Am I the only one to be dashed with bad luck ?. I didn't want to have the abilities I possess anymore. It's making me loose everything I own.
" I'll find you my queen and continue my duties as your only maid". Renee stated with a sour smirk on her pale pink lips before she limped to where her sword and picked it up.
" Aaah! ". She moved impulsively towards the men that already had their bows loaded with the poisonous arrows.
Abruptly and filled with energy, I turned and began scurrying away. The clanks of a sword cutting through numerous woods could be heard by me as I ran. What Renee just said gave me a little bit of hope. She will be able to escape them and look for me wherever I will be.
My quite messy and dirty hair was flying in the air as I ran. My white orbs released a single tear drop onto my bloodied face.
This was going to be the first time I will be alone while escaping. It was going to be hard for me. Renee, I was going to miss her badly so was my parents.
What felt like more than an hour later, I stopped running. I was tired, the muscles in my legs were and they needed a break and I needed to take a short breath before I continue with another session of race.
I shut my eyes to calm myself a bit and my rile but nothing seemed to happen. It did not take long before the very same eyes I closed seconds ago flew back open. My sticky skin felt a slight breeze move quickly and lightly against it. I sensed something just share the same ground with me and my posture changed. Immediately, I stood straight and got aware of what was happening around me.
I took a glimpse round and I saw them there. The very men I have being avoiding band scampering from all day long were currently staring with ultimate attention at me, girdled around me.
I began sulking backwards, clinging onto my dagger in my jacket's pocket. My eyes were unfocused as they travelled from one of them to another until they eventually landed on one of them and my curious gaze was welcomed with a piercing glare.
The person I was staring at was quite different, no! totally different from the others. His hair; they were yellowish and pretty long. And his eyes! I couldn't see the pairs from here but I knew they held hostility in them.
" Where are you running off to, queen?". he asked and I felt shivers fill my spine. His voice was deep, husky, hoarse and filled with pride.
" You can't run from me". he added and I jolted into a tree. What wrong timing. When I was just about to turn and run, this damn tree appeared from no where
. Curse NATURE!
The tone he used was demeaning and more like that of a leader. He was the leader.
He was not the one I saw. That one...
Where was he?
