Chapter 9 - Grass = Bad

With the death of the bird came a moment of silence.

Then they started eating without a second thought, for a chance to trigger the molting process and heal their wounds.

The first to start molting was the female, because it was behind in terms of growth and it started eating from the head.

With the female out of the way, the male had time to eat the rest of the bird.

Unfortunately, the energy contained in the corpse was not enough to start the molting for him.

With no other choice since he was wounded hw searched the busses for small insects to get the required energy.

But in his inexperience in tracking small insects and his destroyed segments he didn't find any.

Then in a stroke of genius he remembered some animals eating grass and buss leaves.

And thought ' If they why not me, huh?' and started on munching on grass.

-----

The female woke up in a barren patch of ground, devoid of grass.

Some distance away was a bloated black centipede, her partner in life, releasing a long, soft, green, centipede excrement, but why was it green though?

'Hey, what did you do?' she asked

'Ate grass, bird not enough.' he said

'Why grass?' she asked again

'No food anywhere, close' he said to clear her doubts

'Any way did you molt?' she inquired

'No, food still in stomach' he responded

'Fine, we'll wait'

-----

While they waited, they discussed their fight with the bird and brought up points of interest for their future of fighting.

'We need head on fighting, also to dodge, but not anywhere, but to advantageous positions, for strikes' was her last thought of the conversation summarizing their thought process.

His molting process started only after nightfall, it seemed grass isn't such a good food after all.

Since it was night when he finished they made a temporary burrow since now they are too big to hide bellow leaves.

The next morning the continued their journey deeper in the forest but for several weeks nothing happened of interest, except of they got more proficient and confident with fights, even though the haven't found any difficult pray in a while.

Now they are pretty long, long enough to rival medium length snakes.

Today they found a huge bear.

The bear was so huge that it reach at the top of the trees standing in its hind legs.

One paw attack and they would be dead, but they were confident in defeating this mighty beast.
