"Are you sure we're going the right way?" Lorelai asked as she turned down another street, not certain as this was the fancier part of town, why would someone who lives here go to public school? "Yes, for the fifth time, Lori, yes, we're going the right way... I think" Lucy spoke calmly, cracking up when Lorelai turned giving her bestie the look, soon admitting that she was only joking. "Don't do that, I'm driving, God..." Lorelai let out a breath, how was Lucy the only one who could get under her skin like this? It almost scared her, although it might have actually done the job if she let herself think about it, but it was the one thing she wouldn't, knowing she'd have to say goodbye one day, she just let things be.
They soon arrived, pulling up to the somewhat creepy modern Victorian on the corner, the place looked nice enough but it was a tad overgrown. There was the option of driving up the concrete driveway but Lorelai decided it would be best to remain on the street, just in case this wasn't Mr.Quinn's house. Lorelai stared over at the front door curiously, there was no movement, soon asking Lucy if she messaged him yet, with the latter replying with a yes. "Well, I think you should message him again, or maybe give him a call," Lorelai suggested, muttering how she didn't like waiting, I mean, if it didn't involve her nighttime hobbies that is, otherwise she usually didn't care to wait. However, Lucy just got out and went over to the front door, so Lorelai couldn't leave, so in turn, she simply pulled out her phone, continuing where she left off with her book. It didn't take long, Lorelai hadn't even reached the halfway point of her chapter before her bestie returned with Matthew, the three soon heading to the nearest grocery store.
Lorelai arrived, finding a parking spot right away, but as she, Matthew, and Lucy stepped out, her bestie busted out laughing, which was quite strange. This wouldn't normally worry Lorelai but as Lucy was nearly in tears from her intense howls, she was, in fact, very concerned. "You guys are wearing the exact same pants", Lucy finally managed, before she continued giggling, with Lorelai certain that she might pee her pants a little if this continued. It then clicked in Lorelai's brain what Lucy said and she peered over at Matthew who was already looking at her, both realizing that Lu was right.
It's not like they were both wearing the same brand of jeans or something, for starters, Matthew and Lorelai weren't even wearing jeans, they both had on a pair of plaid grey slacks. They were even wearing similar overcoats and Lorelai immediately took her jacket off, tossing it into the backseat of her truck before telling Lucy it wasn't funny. "Come you got to admit, O'Siris, this is kind of funny, I mean we're both got the same pants, similar jackets, and a white button-up, although yours appears to be a more little old school, I'm certain the 1890s would have called you by now, requesting you return their sleeves," Matthew said, looking a little amused as he spoke, pissing Lorelai off a bit, doing her best not to let it show.
Lorelai was wearing a white Edwardian-style button-up with mutton sleeves, along with a black fitted suit vest, they went with the pants as well as the faux black leather ankle boots she was also wearing. Of course, it helped even less as Matthew was also wearing similar footwear, although his boots had less of a heel than Lorelai's did. "Seriously, the one day I try something new..." Lorelai muttered to herself but the other two heard and smiled to themselves, believing it to be funny how seemingly embarrassed she was. Of course, when Lorelai noticed his boots she started walking faster, wanting this shopping trip to be over as soon as possible. She grabbed a cart and told the others to hurry, stating that the afternoon rush of customers would arrive soon and she'd rather be out of there before that happened.
As soon as they got inside, Lucy started talking about what she did with the Retirees, seemingly having some kind of epiphany if the expression on her face was any indication. However, it wasn't anything huge, she just remembered something, soon pulling out a little wooden shark to give to Matthew, saying she made it today, hoping he liked it. In turn, Matthew looked at her in surprise, as if he had never received a gift for no reason, but before he could reply, Lucy ran off to find her favourite snack. She giggled to herself as she practically skipped away, seemingly overjoyed by something but neither Lorelai nor Matthew had any idea what it could be.
Lorelai pretty much ignored Matthew, paying much more attention to all of the snacks on the shelves, picking several out as she knew Lucy liked them. Lorelai did turn to Matthew asking if he was getting any of the chips she was looking at, making him inquire why. "Because I'm right here, I might as well grab it so we can get out of here as fast as possible," Lorelai admits, with Matthew following up her words by saying, "I thought you didn't like me". Lorelai rolled her eyes, "I don't... what does grabbing an extra bag off the shelves have to do with that?" she asked, tossing the chips she grabbed into the cart. "This would be considered "being nice" something you don't do for someone you don't like" Matthew replied, getting really close to Lorelai but she obviously stood her ground, looking into his eyes, with a serious deadpan sort of look on her face. "Just because I don't like you doesn't mean I'm going to be an asshole to you... besides Lucy would be upset if I did," Lorelai rolled her eyes as she turned away, soon asking if he wanted a bag of chips or not, this time in a much sharper tone.
By the time Lucy came back Lorelai and Matthew had already checked out, with the former being rather upset, "Lori, I can buy my own snacks". Lucy continued to be grumpy and pouty all the way back to the truck, with Lorelai finally relenting by saying she could pay her back next time when she needed a few litres of gas. This seemed to make Lucy happy and Lorelai let out a sigh of relief, she didn't really care if her friend paid her back or not, she had a decent amount of money so it was no big deal for her.
They soon arrived at Lorelai's place with both Lucy and Matthew looking a bit surprised but the latter hid it better. It was a two-story modern brick house with a garage, nice yard and even a deck in the front and in the back, and altogether it was about 150 sq meters.
Lorelai invited them in, with Lucy and Matthew getting out as Lorelai was going to park inside the garage and let them in through the front door. She had forgotten her garage was kind of a mess, admitting as much but the truth is she didn't want them to see the door to a certain area of her house, as she had uncovered it after moving back in and it was better if they didn't know it existed. Lorelai set down all the snacks in the kitchen before coming over to open the front door, inviting them in all dramatically, setting her one arm out to the side while the other remained over her heart as she bowed. They walked down the hall, noting the wide set of stairs on the right side, next to the door leading to the garage, with Lorelai mentioning the powder room under the stairs. Lorelai then led them into the open main floor, the Kitchen stretched almost all along the back wall, the dining space was next to it on the left, and the living room was around the corner, by the front windows.
There wasn't a lot of stuff, but Lorelai seemed to have everything needed for a house, if the rest of the house was like the main floor. There was a dining table with a couple of chairs, a large couch, a coffee and a side table, not to mention the built-in bookshelves on one wall that surrounded a fireplace, it held a TV along with a handful of books. "The previous owners said there used to be a wall separating the kitchen and dining space from the living room, you can tell by the floor," Lorelai said, pointing out the long strip of wood floor that went along where the wall used to be. "Yeah, apparently they found the same wood, sanded and stained it the same, it looks kind of cool, at least I think so", Lorelai admitted, remembering all the work she did, feeling sort of weird about complimenting herself. Lorelai's smile soon disappeared though as she recalled a few old memories, she thought she would be happy here, but she was wrong and it was so weird to be back.
Lorelai immediately pulls out the frozen pizzas she picked up, wanting to pop them in the oven as soon as possible, saying as much to the others. The second she had the trays in the oven, Matthew informed her that he would be using the powder room, wanting to confirm that it was indeed under the stairs. Lorelai confirmed that it was, warning him that the door sometimes sticks and to be careful with it before asking if he wanted a Shirley Temple. Matthew said he would love one, thanking her for it and before Lorelai could ask Lucy, she shouted over, requesting to have extra cherries in hers, adding a "thanks boo" at the end. Meanwhile, Matthew double-checked to make sure the door was locked before putting the toilet seat down and taking a seat, taking out a small metal container full of large black pills.
By the time Matthew returned, the drinks were all ready, with Lorelai handing him one, but she paused, looking him over with a confused expression on her face. "Are you..." Lorelai paused, catching herself as it was probably not a good idea to ask what that new smell was. The scent reminded Lori of old dried blood but not quite, but she decided to drop it, merely inquiring if he had trouble with the door, handing Matthew his drink. "Maddy, Lori, I got the movie all picked out," Lucy called over, waving to get their attention before gesturing for them to hurry and they do. Lorelai handed Lucy her drink, super excited for the drink and the movie, getting comfortable on the large gray sectional.
At some point, Lorelai noticed how uncomfortable Lucy looked, her outfit was definitely not the best for chilling, so she offered to go get something. "Oh, um... okay, but only if it's not any trouble," Lucy said shyly, but Lorelai smiled, getting up from off the sofa, saying she'd be right back with a change of clothes. Lorelai did take a few minutes and while she was gone, Matthew and Lucy got to chatting and being "teenagers", relationships eventually came up. Although for once, it was Lucy bringing it up as she was curious about what Matthew's type was, but she might have been a little too obvious that she wasn't asking for herself. "I guess I like some who's fit, but being plus-size is not a deal breaker, I like someone driven, not afraid to get loud and argue when necessary, over-protective is definitely plus for me, but other than that, my types vary quite a bit I'd say as it's more about that initial connection, some people you just click with and others you don't", Matthew admitted before asking Lucy what her type was or if she even had a type, being Asexual. "You know I don't know, I haven't really thought about it but if I had to... I'd want someone I can rely on when I need support, someone who gets my weird sense of humour and someone who loves food... romantic relationships aren't off the table for me but I'm not really interested in having sex or that kind of intimacy, I might consider it in the future if my partner is sexually active", Lucy spoke honestly, shrugging her shoulders, admitting that she was more interested in other things but wanted to see her friends happy.
Lorelai eventually returned, handing her bestie a shirt and some gym shorts while wearing a pair herself, along with a shirt that said, "Born To Be Wild But Only Until 9 pm Or So". But before Lorelai could even sit down she heard Lucy get super excited, showing Matthew the shirt, it said "Chaotic Crotch Goblin" on it. She told Matthew that they went on a day trip over the summer to the beach town that was nearby, making custom shirts while they were there. "I made one that said 'Ray of Sunshine' it was super cute and Lori made this one, it's so her, I love it so much", Lucy admitted rushing off to go change with Lorelai telling her which room was her bedroom. After she left Lorelai turned to Matthew saying, "here, fuckboy", handing him a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt, telling him to put it on if he was uncomfortable. He raised an eyebrow at Lorelai, but in the end, he took the clothes, making it back before Lucy, not sure how to feel about the shirt as it said, "I'm Not Gay But $20 Is $20".
Lorelai cracked up a little, smirking as she thought Matthew looked so stupid in that shirt, she was always surprised by how well it fit him. I mean, they were about the same height but Lorelai supposed Matthew did have wider shoulders than her so it was bound to be a little smaller on him than on her. Lucy was really taking her time but there was only silence between Lorelai and Matthew but he broke it, asking if she really hated him. "I hate everyone... except Lucy," Lorelai admitted, her gaze wandering away, as it wasn't the whole truth, but she doubted Matthew noticed as she wasn't looking right at him. Silence followed Lorelai's words and she wondered if she was giving the guy too hard of a time, deciding that it would be better to play nice so she could figure him out. So taking a deep breath, Lorelai continued, "but, I guess I hate you a little less than other people so there's that," grabbing a slice of pizza before looking away.
The rest of the evening was pretty uneventful, with Lorelai soon giving Matthew a lift home and although Lucy was having a sleepover at Lori's she came along for the ride. Lucy yelled "bye Maddy, see you Monday!" as the two ladies drove away into the night and Matthew stood there for a moment, waving until they turned the corner before heading inside. Matthew took a moment to stretch, rubbing his eyes, wondering if he was wasting too much of his time with Lucy and Lorelai, as he did have a lot of work to do. Matthew lets out a sigh as he sits down, saying, "I know you're there Leopold, just come out already, I don't have all night" and soon enough a man strutted out from the darkness.
This man was a bit shorter than Matthew and had an overall smaller build, but dressed just as nice, if not a little better as he had on a full suit. He was dark, with brown-taupe skin, his hair was black and cut short, with a kind approachable face but what was most striking were his eyes. He had one deep brown eye with a hint of orange and green and the other was golden, shining bright even in the dimly lit room.
"It's been a long time Mayhew, so what have you been up to?" the man asked, noticing the look on his friend's face, inquiring if he met anyone interesting while on his little mission, a nice lady or perhaps a gentleman. "Well Leo, I did meet someone, interesting," Matthew said, thinking about her for a moment before continuing, "she's a tall, loud, bossy little thing, she even threatened to chop me up and bury me in the woods if I touched her friend". This made Leo smirk, "so she's your type then?", and in return Matthew smiled, a nice and wide grin, revealing his fangs as he said, "yes... just my type".
