Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: She Knows

The Stone Creature turned back to leave and Lorelai could feel her heart in her throat as her fear overcame her, but she did not attempt to flee, she took him head-on. She leaped from her spot, leaving a slight indent in the wall as the Stone Creature's face grew even more grotesque as his expression shifted into what Lorelai read as surprised. The Creature didn't show any fear, not that it had time to, as unlike most fight scenes in books or movies, Lorelai would not give her opponent a chance to react and strike back. With great effort, she knocked him to the ground, wasting no time as she tore his head clean off, getting a slightly better look at it for a few seconds before it too vanished.

The face remained Lorelai of a Gargoyle but nothing like Goliath, it was like the traditional face you'd see on old statues on even older buildings, a way to guard against evil or whatever. This face in particular, was hideous, it was as if a goblin's and dog's faces were mashed together to make the worst combination possible, minus any big pointy ears. Lorelai doubted it was a face even a mother could love, unless his mother was blind, mean certainly, but as they were involved with kidnapping people, she didn't feel bad in the least.

Without warning though the head cracked before disappearing altogether, but Lorelai didn't bother sticking around to find out why. Well, it was more so that with her fight response in full swing, your brain was occupied with beating all the bad guys up so she quickly left to continue the battle.

Lorelai wasn't expecting so many opponents, or that they would vary in size and skills, doing her best to keep, reminding herself that she could do this before getting slammed into a wall. She moved just in time, as one of the strong ones came to finish her off, getting around him and throwing a punch so strong it caused a massive crack to form. In the next moment, he disappeared but Lorelai couldn't relax yet as one of the faster ones came at her, managing to knock him away just before two flying ones came at her. As far as Lorelai could tell there were 3 different types of Stone Creatures, the large ones were big and strong, like the two she had already fought. Next were slightly taller ones with slender frames and they were faster than cheetahs with precise strikes that could lop off an arm if Lorelai wasn't careful. And finally, the ones with wings, they were the smallest out of the group and a bit slower but made up for it with the deadly claws it had, slicing through concrete like it were paper.

The flying Stone Creatures were the hardest to deal with, as Lorelai couldn't fly like they could, maintaining the high ground throughout the entire fight. It wasn't enough to save them but it did make the fight a lot harder, resulting in Lorelai taking way more hits than she was expecting. At some point she had ripped off the view part from her helmet, as it was cracked making it very hard to see, revealing her eyes. The lights were dim and the darkness surrounding Lorelai's face made her fire-like irises appear even brighter, not exactly instilling fear but making the Stone Creatures who were left a bit more wary of her. They had a right to be, as, despite all of their strength, the very last one fell at Lorelai's hands, disappearing and instead turning into little chess-like pieces.

Lorelai for her part was left pretty broken, but could still fight, she continued on, appearing more like a walking corpse than she ever had before. Her head was pounding and every single limb of her body wanted to kill itself but she pressed on, following a scent that was suddenly in the air. It was quite strange, especially when considering that Lorelai immediately caught the scents of humans once the last Stone Creature fell, but now a few minutes later, a new scent had suddenly appeared. This new scent was also different than any human scent but not like Matthew's, but like something she couldn't quite put her finger on. However, she knew that it was most likely a new opponent and despite just calming down from going almost completely feral, she pressed on, knowing that she couldn't leave the humans that were here behind.

Lorelai pulled herself together, cracking what needed to be cracked, stretching for a moment before heading off in the direction this new scent was coming from. It didn't take her long to find what she was looking for, and somehow, like in any scary movie, there was a pair of ominous stairs leading down into the earth. The scent of humans and the new scent was coming from that direction so Lorelai had no choice but to head down, doing her best to be cautious but her exhaustion was evident. It was more mental exhaustion than anything else as technically, or at least, as far as Lorelai knew she could keep going and moving no matter how broken her body was or how much pain she was in. The stairway itself was pretty dark, but as Lorelai approached the bottom, she could see it was all lit up, whatever it was down below.

There was a rather large and long hallway with a floor-to-ceiling door, one you might find on a submarine or at the entrance to a bank vault. The door itself seemed to be ajar, and from inside, Lorelai could hear someone talking, seemingly to themselves as there were no other voices to be heard. Lorelai listened in for a moment, hoping to gage her opponent, but it would seem that none of her skills would have prepared her for this one either. The person in question, had a deep and somewhat booming voice, sounding like any gruff and tough individual, but there was far more to him than the ear.

Peaking her gaze into the room, Lorelai noticed that there was indeed only one opponent inside, he was agitated, seemingly upset from all the work he had to do. From his words, Lorelai learned that he had just returned and still had work to do, which she didn't like the sound of at all. Lorelai was unsure of the exact location but knew that this guy must have entered into this building by means of a secret entrance. There was absolutely no way in hell he just came through the front door and passed by the debris and destruction and still remained this calm. However, not wanting to be here all night and not wanting to keep any prisoners waiting longer than they had to, Lorelai pushed open the door to confront her final opponent of the evening, hopefully.

Lorelai pushed open the door, the door creaked open, not a great start but it seemingly went unnoticed, as the enemy in question had other things on his mind. She approached slowly, taking in everything the room had to offer, as she wasn't currently being perceived as a threat, Lorelai could take her time. Honestly, she wasn't all that surprised at what she found, as she had found similar places in the past; a large room filled with cages and cells meant to hold people. As far as she could tell, there were no imprisoned humans to speak, with Lorelai believing that they might have been moved elsewhere. The only difference from those past experiences was the large wolf-man standing over a table, going over many papers, visibly pissed about multiple things.

The Wolfman spoke without looking up, saying how the next shipment was but he stopped himself, finally looking up to see you weren't who he thought you were. "Oh, bloody hell, not another Thrall," the Werewolf complained, clearly not understanding what Lorelai actually was and what she was doing there. He then went on to complain about how vampires never took good care of their thrawls properly, dropping another bombshell onto Lorelai, as if she didn't have enough for one lifetime. The Werewolf then went on to talk about how they, most likely referring to whoever was in charge were taking to many risks, they would get discovered by... but he stopped for a second time.

Something seemed to click in the Werewolf's brain, with him immediately jumping Lorelai, her dodging at the last minute, his speed catching her off guard for a fraction of a second. The Werewolf went on to yell about how she, referring to Lorelai shouldn't be here, before questioning how she was here, what she was, and why he could smell her. Lorelai, being too exhausted for banter remained silent but by the look the Werewolf gave her a few moments later, it would seem he had figured it out, becoming even angrier.

The Werewolf continued yelling furiously, accusing her, shouting saying that he knew she worked for "them" not stating any name to give Lorelai an actual clue for what the hell he was talking about. Not that Lorelai was completely in the dark, she gathered there was a group opposing them, most likely other Supernatural, as she was mistaken as a Thrawl and then the enemy. However, despite having a lot more information, Lorelai had just as many questions, too many to contemplate at the moment, especially with her head pounding and an annoying dogman to deal with. Lorelai always packed an extra weapon just in case, but until now, she was unable to use it, but seeing as her current opponent was made of flesh and not stone, she could use it now.

The Werewolf let out a loud cry in surprise as Lorelai made a deep cut along the Deltoid Muscle of his left shoulder, making it difficult to move his left arm. Normally, she would have aimed for the right arm but as she could tell after only a few moves that he was left-handed, she knew which limb to strike first. Of course, Lorelai wouldn't be leaving his right arm alone, nor any of his other limbs, slowly hacking away at the others while dodging the Werewolf's attacks. As a result, there was blood flying everywhere, with the majority ending up on Lorelai, not that she cared as right now, she was simply focused on finishing off her opponent.

Lorelai had done more than enough damage to the Werewolf, to the point he had trouble moving as she had slashed his arms and legs so many times. He did try to fight on, which Lorelai found almost admirable, soon wondering if all Werewolves were as persistent as he was as she slipped her daggers away. She had no more need for them at the moment but was certainly pleased with how her Damascus Steel daggers performed as she had forged them herself several years ago. As for the Werewolf, Lorelai wasn't about to let him live but was uncertain how they worked, not being human, simply leaving him to bleed out was not an option.

Lorelai stepped closer, dodging the Werewolf's weak and pathetic attempts to attack her, even catching both of his hands at some point and breaking them. The shock from that attack caused the Werewolf to stumble back, but before he completely fell Lorelai plunged her dominant hand through his chest gripping onto his heart. The Werewolf's jaw went slack, letting out a weak and broken mumbled cry as Lorelai began draining his life force away before ripping out his heart. Lorelai watched the Werewolf crumble, appearing more like a mummy with fur with his heart soon following, but it instead simply turned to dust.

After a moment, Lorelai wiped her hands, feeling the effects of draining another washing over her, healing her words to a certain point, even easing her mind a small bit as well. Lorelai was still quite injured but was healed up to the point that even as the adrenaline-like rush wore off, she could make it out of the building and back home with little trouble. It was more than usual, making Lorelai wonder if the life force of magical creatures was different, better suited to her, but that question, along with many others would have to wait until later, right now, she had to locate the captured humans.

Some of the dust did cling to Lorelai's gloves, as her hands were covered in blood, actually, as a result of ripping such a vital organ from the Werewolf, she was pretty much covered head to toe. Lorelai was worried about what the humans might think if they saw her this way when it dawned on her that a tall human covered in blood was probably the least of their concerns. The people who held them here weren't just monsters on the inside, they were monsters on the outside too, like literal supernatural monsters, so seeing her this way wouldn't be too surprising. Not that they could tell she was a she, as Lorelai's disguise was still intact enough to hide the fact that she was female.

However, Lorelai's concerns were unnecessary as, no matter where she looked, checking every last crook and cranny of the basement, there was no one to be found. Lorelai came to the conclusion that seeing as the scent of humans was still fresh and that the Werewolf had just returned, he must have just come back from delivering them to a different location. At this realization, Lorelai found herself, nearly falling over as all of her fatigue caught up with her, resulting in her taking a seat against the cold concrete walls, as she thought of what she could do. But there was nothing to do, as the few memories of the Werewolf Lorelai did retrieve were seemingly unless, all broken up and blurry, with an unknown voice booming orders so she couldn't hear anything useful.

Lorelai eventually made it to her feet once again and headed back over to the stairs, knowing the sun would be up in a few hours and she still needed to get all cleaned up and back home. Lorelai would normally just go on home but considering, everything that happened tonight, she thought it might be for the best to go somewhere else, wash up and then head home. Normally, it wouldn't be too big a deal, as Lorelai had gone home covered in blood before but now, the possibility of her being tracked by scent, as wolves were famous for it. Lorelai doubted that the one she fought was the only Werewolf involved and based on what he said, it was likely other monsters such as Vampires might be involved. She couldn't be 100% sure though but seeing as in all the old stories Thrawls served Vampires, it seemed foolish to simply write off the possibility.

Lorelai was brought back out from her thoughts at sudden noises she heard coming from up the stairs, and the lack of scent in the air could only mean one thing. She put her game face back on as she rushed back towards and up the stairs, stretching quickly as she went, knowing that she likely had to go another round with more Stone Creatures. However, once Lorelai reached the top of the stairs, she couldn't see anyone or anything around, putting her back on edge, as she still couldn't pick up anything with her nose. And then, out of nowhere, it hit her, sending Lorelai flying across the room, hitting the ground in such a way that it seemed to launch her further like a stone skipping on the water.

Lorelai finally stopped moving letting out a groan-like gasp wanting to actually voice her complaints by possibly yelling "fuck" and other profanities. But it was not the time as a sudden gust of wind forced her up, dodging a second attack, with Lorelai making it back to her feet and jumping back in a matter of a few seconds. Out of fear, Lorelai overshot herself, having to dig her nails into the floor in order to slow down and not crash into a wall, making a terrible sound reminiscent of nails on a chalkboard. She was able to get a fair distance away from her attacker, with a familiar scent soon catching her nose, her eyes went wide, as she questioned her own nose and memory. Lorelai recognized the scent at once, not believing her own eyes as she looked up, as an injured, red, bloodshot eyes, Matthew Quinn stood there, fangs out and hissing.
