Chapter 24 - Chapter 24 Mind Acceleration

Vroom, vroom, vroom, vrrroooom!

"What is that sword?"

A chainsaw, duh. Well, from the looks of it, there are no chainsaws yet, huh?

Well, anyway, this is one of the gimmicks my sword has.

Even though blunt spikes popped out when I activated this function. and when I charge it with mana, it spins and becomes a chainsaw.

"Not answering? Hehe, not to worry, I'll make good use of that as well."

As he said, he donned himself with armor out of nowhere. He didn't use any space storage items, which perplexed me.

And as I was still thinking about how he did that, he attacked me.

Whoosh

Ting-ting-ting-ting-ting

Vroom vrrroooom

And then we clashed, but this time I was at an advantage.

And then bam!

Deflecting all his attacks put him off balance. From the looks of it, he hasn't adapted to fighting with a chainsaw sword.

With an opening, I slashed his armor, piercing through it; he then bled from the attack.

But what happened next was straight out terrifying. Tentacles pop out of his wounds.

"How dare you!"

He yelled with a deep yet screeching voice.

What is he?

As I was questioning myself, I saw him heal his wound and fix his armor.

"You bastard, I'll kill you."

He yells again, and what happens next reminds me of the creature that almost killed me before.

He transforms into a veiny creature, and at his sides grow arms that are holding weapons and armor with mismatched designs.

This made me speak about the species of that monster.

"Chimera."

"Oh, it seems like you know what I am? But it's too late for that now that you're dead?"

He said that he attacked me with a strong and fast movement.

Then I moved and dodged all his attacks while also using the harpoons of my gauntlet and moving around like spid*rm*n.

"Stop moving, you stubborn eel!"

The attack kept on coming, and it was getting harder to dodge, although I sliced and destroyed his equipment and body. They still regenerate.

I guess I need to change some gears, huh.

But I was about to change my plans when someone interrupted us.

Swish shing.

"Aaah! Who did that?"

The officer who tried to stop me, attacked the bandit leader/

"Another insect, huh? Either way, you're all dead."

"Is that so? But that's not going to happen because it's you who will die. Hungry Jackal."

"You know me; I didn't know that other than that captain. someone else knows me."

"Actually, it was difficult at first because you had gained a lot more weight than you had a few years ago."

"Bahaha I just made space for my growing appetite."

"What nonsense. Eiyaah! "

We continued fighting, but amidst this, I asked the officer:

"Who is he?"

"Wait, you don't know?"

"No."

"Stop talking!"

Ting, ting, bam!

"Ugh fine I'll tell you after taking him down."

"I think it is better if you tell me now."

"Why!"

"Because-"

"I said, Listen to me, you bastards."

The hungry jackal then created a huge arm and then slammed it on us while holding something that is made from a bunch of weapons.

Smash!

Keeping away from him, I continued.

"I need to know what his power is."

"Huh, we can just beat him down with brute force."

Is she crazy that it only works if you have the advantage, but we are the ones being cornered.

Although I like to use the railgun from before, It might be disastrous since it's too powerful.

And the train is already out of defense.

So it is best to know our enemy and plan the right way to defeat him with minimal damage.

"Okay, then just tell me about his unique abilities, and we're done."

"Ugh, he has a bloodline ability and it is known as devour."

What? That sounds so OP.

"What does it do?"

"Well, just as it says, he eats. But what he eats are monster cores, and he gets a portion of their power. But sometimes it will get lucky and get its special bloodline talent, though it is very low."

So you are saying that he ate a lot and was able to do this?

Oraah

Bam!

He put a hole in the roof. This means the defense is really down to zero.

But something seems fishy since he absorbs what he eats and then those weapons.

He eats them, but-

"Hey, stop daydreaming and help!"

"Oh yeah."

"It seems you guys are really losing it, huh? Talking to each other while fighting me?"

As he came closer to me, I laughed. I already know how to defeat him thanks to the ability I activated at that time.

Called [Mind acceleration].

This ability was purely accidental. I gained three things from the previous chimera attack.

The railgun move, core gear switch, and this the mind acceleration.

It happened during the final attack when preparing for the railgun.

My mind was in a different state, giving me time to execute my attack.

I only noticed this later in one of Professor Philip's classes, which almost got me killed.

But thanks to that, I noticed the significance of mind acceleration, though I don't know if I can call this a special trait or if it was just a technique or a spell.

And with this, I noticed what I needed to do to defeat him.

"Can you distract him for a few seconds, officer? I think I know how to beat him."

"Wha- again! Fine, let's do it. Huuu [scourging sky splitter]"

I left the officer in a hurry without waiting for a reply. I mean, what can I do if the fight is still going on? I can't explain my plan.

So with all I had, I dashed out of the train and moved to the other side of the Hungry Jackal, using my harpoon.

And then a huge amount of mana was unleashed as I made my move.

I instilled lightning elemental mana into my sword. And when I reached the opposite side of the Hungry Jackal, I saw an opportunity when he was taking in the huge attack of the guard officer.

Seeing this, I rushed forth and pierced his combination of multiple weapons.

And overcharged my blade with a huge amount of mana. However, because the mana I used is a lightning element, imagine what would happen if it struck a metal.

Not to mention, humans also have a good amount of electricity in their bodies.

Well, normally this won't work for high-ranking individuals since they can have strong immunity against other elements, but what if the person has a metallic substance in their body?

They become great conductors, bypassing their defenses. Now he will have a fried nerve circuit.

As he received the attack, the hungry jackal was knocked out without any consciousness.

"Haaa, Huuu, haaa you did great there."

"Haaa, you too that was awesome."

"Okay, then it's time to detain this freak."

And as the officer was about to put the handcuffs on, something happened.

A black ooze of substance came out of the Hungry Jackal, and it slowly melted his body.

"What! There is no way I am going to let you do this."

The officer tried to stop the black ooze from melting the body, but to no avail. The process was so fast that it ended in a few seconds with nothing remaining, not even a strand of the hungry jackal's hair.

"What happened?"

We were left with the question of what just happened in front of us.

Then this made me wonder: was this what also happened to the chimera I once fought? Did he also disappear like this?

Because the last time I tried to look for it again, there weren't any signs of its existence, only the events that transpired.

"Where is the Hungry Jackal?"

Another officer asked as he came closer to us while shouldering a person.

"We don't know why his body was suddenly gone without a trace."

"I think he is gone for good."

"What do you mean, captain?"

"Although I was far away, I recognized that black substance."

"What was it?"

"A chemical that was used by alchemists to dissolve carcasses of monsters."

"Wait, does that mean he's dead?"

"Most likely, he is."

As they were talking, I moved away and-

"Wait! Where are you going?"

"Well, since this is all over, I thought of leaving it to the professionals."

"What? Do you really think you're innocent? You coming here unidentified is a crime, so we need you to-"

Boom!

As the officer was being unreasonable, I blasted a smoke bomb to escape the place.

"What the-. He's gone. Where is he?"

"I don't know if the smoke just now caught me by surprise."

"I don't have any mana left."

"What the heck? I can't sense where he is."

While the officers were confused, I returned to my cabin, took my stuff, and arrived at the evacuation area, where there were still many people trying to escape the bandits.

"Man, the line is long."

"You can say that again; we were here for almost an hour, and it looks like a new batch of people is coming."

When I looked back at the place where the two men in front me speak of, I noticed that those were the people I had saved earlier.

I guess this could be a good alibi, huh. Hopefully they won't investigate any further.
