Chereads / The Choices we make [MMO Fantasy] / Chapter 20 - Chapter 20

Chapter 20 - Chapter 20

Alexander admired the view he had of the planet a little more before descending again to his home.

He must have shocked everyone when he suddenly disappeared.

An apology would definitely be needed when he came back.

But what should he say? His situation was complicated and even Alexander did not know what he became now.

Calling himself an angel was the easy solution that he took effortlessly as his own.

Although, even in the beginning he was clearly something different from normal angels.

What exactly classified him right now? He fused with the law of purity, but his divine spark was clearly not everything to him.

There was also the aspect of the all-encompassing black hole he was mimicking.

A sentient black hole that only took in the energy of everything it sucked in and transformed that into pure energy. That was a far closer description of his ability.

Sadly, even that had its limits.

Either Alexander did not want to play black hole for too long because it was boring, or simply because it strained his mind too much.

'Enough rambling, I need to go back now.' Was all that Alexander could think of before descending back to earth.

The first time he went into space he did not really notice, but coming back, Alexander could feel the barrier that kept the supernatural out clearly.

As he had a completely different power system from what the world core blocked, Alexander could pass through without a hitch.

But normal mages or monsters would be blocked by a barrier and bombarded with different spells that the core mastered over the years.

Alexander descended slowly. He took his sweet time admiring the view he had over the continent he was on.

Europe was beautiful at this time of day. Especially as everything looked so tiny from above.

What was not beautiful was something that Alexander saw flying towards him.

A squadron of 19 fighter jets that flew in a v-formation towards him killed the mood in an instant.

It was to be expected that something like that happened.

That was the reason why alexander descended without his ethereal form and why he was so slow.

If he wanted, he could rush down as fast as he got up.

But the military already moved as he was in space.

Surely, some satellites had already send his visual data to different world governments.

There was no way of hiding anymore, but why should he in the first place?

Abilities by his theory, were supposed to pop up in around a month regardless of what he did.

Some players progressed faster than he had expected. His sister Elly was one of them.

It was partially Alexanders fault that she had awakened her abilities so soon, but even without him she would have done it sooner or later.

They had a gas stove in their kitchen, and she would likely feel a connection between her and the flames and just try to control them without even thinking much about it.

From Alexanders perspective, most natural abilities would manifest in the world like this.

He recalled that one guy that got speed calculation and got the shivers by just thinking about it.

That was even more dangerous than fire in his opinion.

The fighter jets got closer and as they were slowing down they formed a circle around him.

After all, they needed to keep flying. Only Alexander could practically stand midair without doing much.

He waited for what they were about to do. He had at least a little faith that they would not immediately attack a flying angel. Still, in the past, many overseas countries have done some stupid stuff just to get some resources.

A single fighter jet broke formation and flew above them to drop a phone over Alexanders head.

He thought hard about what they were about to do. But to drop a phone was something even he did not expect.

The chance that they would immediately fire missiles at him was higher in his head than this.

He silently took the phone and put the speakers at his ear.

Someone was trying to speak to him, but the wind and the jet engines were to loud to hear anything.

After creating a wind barrier around himself so that he could hear at least something, Alexander began to rant.

"Who the hell thought it was a good idea to use a phone to communicate with me at this altitude with 19 jets flying in a circle around me. Has anyone even thought this through?"

After a short silence of shame the speaker on the other side resumed his speech.

"We unfortunately did not think this one through. There was simply no time. The light in the sky dimmed and we needed to act."

Alexander understood a little bit. He just was too quick for the military to act accordingly.

That was a compliment for him.

"For starters, my name is Alexander. I have a semi-important mission and it may even be aligned with your own. I don't want chaos to break out by what is about to come. If you think you want to hear why."

The military personal on the other side were shocked by his statement.

Angels tend to be the good guys. Or at least hold up order. That was commonly known even by them.

When an angel descended in such a manner, the words it told would be of importance.

Therefore the military had to be careful not to anger the angel.

"The fighter jets will return to our base right now. Please follow them so we can meet in person."

Alexander smiled a little bit. They were at least putting in some effort.

That made him happy. He loved it when people were uncomplicated.

A single hint of disaster made them behave properly.

"Understood. We will see us at your base."

With that said, Alexander hung up and resumed flight.

To not scare the people on the ground, Alexander hid his wings and got close behind a fighter jet to mask his appearance for anyone looking.

What he did not know was, that the military really had no time to get to him.

Their base of operation was a good hour flight away.

They had no time for planning at all.

Alexander and the jets landed in a military base in northern Germany.

It was fairly big base built mainly for aviation it seemed. There were six big hangars in total that surrounded a few buildings.

The planes had to land properly while Alexander waited on the ground for the military to get him.

He somehow expected that they would already wait for him here when the planes were about to land, but only now did the soldiers ran out of the barracks accompanied by some high ranking general.

The general did not give off a scummy feeling. He ran at the front, the soldiers followed closely behind him.

With a "Sorry dear Alexander, we are late." The general stopped a few meters before reaching him.

There was nothing to excuse here, but Alexander couldn't care less. He was not there for greetings.

"Should we directly come to the point where I tell you how I want things to be for the future, or what are your plans for now?"

He was being direct. A more direct approach would only be possible to just use magic in front of them and then just demanding stuff. But that was not Alexanders forte.

He was a good guy. To just rush through things was also not a good idea.

"First, we, the German aviation control force would apologize for the sudden development. Some of the jet pilots were seconds away from bombarding you with missiles before we knew that you were an angel."

Alexander knew it. He was expecting something like that. After all, he would have likely done the same.

Calculating and scheming were the bread and butter of video games.

Use everything at your disposal. Even if those things are underhand tactics.

"I would have done the same thing General what is your name?"

The general looked confused. He somehow forgot to give out his name.

This entire situation was scarier for him than any military experience he went through to this point.

"R- right. My name. I am General Konrad Kurz from the German aviation control task force. We are in control of any anomalies in the German air space and responsible for appropriate actions."

They call 19 fighter jets an 'appropriate action'? It's an exaggeration if you ask me.

"I will not waste your time too much General Kurz. My goal in this whole situation is to assure that the general population can live in peace and does not riot or run amok because of some minor disturbances."

General Kurz was not understanding the situation in the slightest.

What event would be called a minor disturbance that would cause chaos?

Was there coming an Armageddon? Maybe the end of the world?

"Soon, many people will awaken special abilities that allow them to sometimes do good things, more often those abilities will cause destruction. From personal experience even I myself destroy more than I want to."

Awaken, abilities, destruction. Those three words swarmed in the head of General Kurz.

He could somehow connect the dots that he needed to understand the situation.

If his conjecture was right, then Alexander was talking about the abilities within choices.

But how would they be able to work in real life.

He himself had started playing the game because the military was also interested in the whole technology of the thing.

No one in their ranks thought it was possible by todays standards what the game 'choices' did.

Therefore many military officials entered the game.

He was one of the lucky one who would be there most of his working day.

"Do you mean by any chance the abilities within the game choices?"

He asked that very carefully. It would be better if he was proven wrong by this angel and the situation was caused by some natural thing.

"You are sadly completely right General Kurz."

"Fuck. Are you serious? Do you know how many people play that goddamn game? How many people got abilities over there? Will all abilities and skills come to this world?

Is there a restriction on the power level of those abilities?

Damn, DAMN, this is not good."

General Kurz was quick witted. But Alexander was more impressed by his logical thinking in this kind of situation.

"Let me say it this way. Before I entered the game world, I was human. Now I don't know what I am. Something higher than an angel but still lower than a god. I also got full permission to take care of everything from the gods of this world.

So even if the military decides not to help me, I will have all legal grounds covered for anything I do."

Now the General feared for his life. If what this boy said was even remotely true, then he did not have the authority to decide anything.

The energy released by Alexander in space was on par with nuclear warheads.

If he decided to use that power against other humans, it would be over for them.

And that was not considering the things he said about the support from the gods.

If one believed in any godly text like the bible, the gods did some crazy stuff over the years.

The ten plagues were child stories today but in the past, the church told them as real events that took place in the past.

"What are your plans for when the people attain their abilities in the real world? How much time do we have?"

For all the General did go through right now, he was calmer than Alexander anticipated.

He believed every word Alexander said. There needed to be a reason for why he did.

Either he already had something to do with the game, or the military was involved in some stuff.
