Chapter 22 - Chapter 22

The next day Nyx wakes up and leaves the house without a word. To make sure her siblings don't follow her, she dives into the shadows. As her sibling follow her out, they lose track of her. Shaking their heads they go on about their day.

Moving within the shadows she walks to the assassin's hideout. As she arrives the man in the midnight blue robe from the previous night. "You have made your decision. Now come with me," handing her a mask, "put this on. Don't need people to recognize you."

She puts on the mask and follows the man. Following behind him, they pass through several rooms. After a while he says, "You will need a codename yourself. Mine is Xod. Doesn't have to be right this moment."

They reach a door and he says, "Xod is here with a new apprentice."

The door opens up. Within the room Nyx sees several people everywhere. Each one wearing different robes, cloaks, masks, and coats. Staying right behind Xod she looks around. Eventually they come to a desk, "Hello Xod, who may this be?"

"A new apprentice."

"Well young one what will you be known as in the Aemeires Brotherhood?"

Thinking to her self Nyx goes through several names and asks, "Has Yuna been taken?"

"Yes it has young one, Yuna won't be available till we can confirm Yuna has died."

"Then is Yuna-Daigon, Yuna-Lehier, Yuna-Fier, or Yuna-Mierim taken?"

"All that you listed except for Yuna-Mierim have been taken. So is Yuna-Mierim what you will choose?"

"Yes it shall," Nyx nods her head.

Looking at her the receptionist hands her a badge, "This will let us identify you as Yuna-Mierim, if another member of the Aemeires Brotherhood comes across it, they will return it to us. We will assume you have died if it gets returned to us. We will also assume you are still alive until we get it back. This will also keep track of your rank.

"You won't have to worry about the rank till you pass the apprentice ship though. For now it will show you as Xod's apprentice till you become a full fledge assassin."

Nodding her head she follows Xod. They had to the back of the area. Opening a door Xod says, "We shall begin your training with this area first. Your natural ability with shadows is impressive, however you lack an understanding of what it intels to be within the shadows for one. Secondly you are still moving pretty slow with the shadows themselves, but compared to others who have just started using shadows, you are quick. Third you don't understand how to hide your presence within the shadows. You don't understand how to differentiate the shadows from each other.

"These are some important things to know. But the biggest thing you need to learn is how to be able to gather information from within the shadows. You were shocked when you heard my voice while in the shadows. This tells me that you need to learn that skill first.

"We will then go to teaching you how to use different weapons. Most of us assassins like daggers, since they are easy to keep on hand and to keep hidden. Then we will go to disguises. Then we will go over basic life skills to better stay in disguise. Finally we will go over poisons, medicine, and potions."

"So what about my actual schooling?"

"Yeah you will be showing up here after school. Any other questions?"

Shaking her head she says, "Let's get started with the training then. So how will we start it off?"

Looking at her, he nods saying, "We will first go into the shadows, and you will have to listen for my voice. I will not project through the shadows like a did last night."

Nodding her head, she follows him into the shadows. In the shadows she tries to focus in on any noise. First she hears her breathe. Slowing down her breathe, she hears the beating of her heart. Not sure what she can do, she goes to activate another mana core. As she does so, she is slowly sent out of the shadows.

Shaking his head, he continues to talk. Above the shadows she goes to dive right back in. Looking around she notices how one of the shadows is moving strangely. Looking over at it, she sees it moving like it is speaking.

Paying attention to the way that it is moving, she realizes that she is so hung up on hearing it. That she isn't allowing it to just reach her instead. She goes to clap her hands and notices she can't even hear that. Not understanding why she isn't even able to her hands clap she sits down.

Watching her sit down, he nods his head. 'She is coming to realize the uniqueness of the blending of the shadow realm into Midyarle,' he thinks.

Paying closer attention she sees, how the shadows seem to be all tangled up and distorted throughout the place. Touching one shadow, it pulls along the path of her finger. Wondering what she can do, she feels the vibration of the shadow.

Bringing it close to her ear, she can hear footsteps. Letting go, she is no longer able to hear footsteps. 'Trying to untangle all of these shadow strings is fruitless. There are far to many. I don't even know if they will stay untangles to begin with. Wait a minute. Why don't I just treat it like I would mana. Should be a similar process after all.'

With a smile she closes her eyes. Instead of breathing in the shadow strings, she lets them flow into her ears. Slowly as they do so she is able to hear more of what is going on around her. Looking around she tries to locate the source of each sound.

However, finding the location of each sound is far more difficult then she realized. For the reason that most of the time, the shadow strings don't actually enter both ears at the same time. Wandering why this is, she moves forward.

Watching how the shadow strings flow similar to a river, she goes to split them. Splitting the strings they start to flow into both ears. She hears from her left side, "Well done young one, time for the next lesson."
