" So, you mean my powers kicking in, is what's helped me? So, does that mean my disease... Is it?" Ian began. A feeling of unease crept into his stomach, he wanted to be excited to be happy, but he knew all to well not to get his hopes up.
" As far as we know your disease is gone." Hank spoke.
The furry blue beast as a massive smiled crept onto Ian's face and tears started to well up in his eyes.
" Does that mean, I can walk?" Ian asked.
" Now, I don't want you to get your hopes up. Of course, I'm going to need to run some tests, and not all of them are going to be comfortable. But if everything remains the same as they are now, then you may never need to use those canes of yours again." Hank explained.
" Och Thank ye. Thank ye so ver much." Ian cried, his thick accent bleeding through his words.
" Don't thank me, dear boy. It was your mutation that did the work." Hank explained.
Hank placed a hand on Ian's shoulder and comforted the boy as he cried.
A few moments later, after taking Ian's vitals, Hank decided to test out Ian's capabilities.
" Okay Ian, this is simple. I want you to walk to me and then back without holding onto the rails. Of course, if you feel the need to do so then please grab onto them, but only if you really need too." Hank explained to the boy.
" Yes sir." Ian replied. He let go of his canes and stood up straight. He then slowly made his way towards Hank. At first it felt weird to be up and about without using his canes, but as he walked towards the giant blue beast he felt at ease, he felt energetic. He smiled happily and broke out into a sprint. Once he was at the end he leapt up into the air and beast caught him.
" HAHA! Well done my boy." Hank spoke, he put Ian down and patted him on the back. " Now, try going back and forth." Hank told the boy.
And Ian did, he started out walking normally back and forth before Hank had him run the length multiple times. When Hank saw that he could move just perfectly fine, he moved onto more unconditional tests.
" Tell me if you feel this." Hank spoke. He then hit Ian's kneecap with a small metal hammer.
" Ah, yes I can feel it." Ian replied as his knee jerked up.
" Good reaction, reflexes are fine. And how is your leg feeling, any discomfort?" Hank asked.
" None other than you, hitting me." Ian replied.
" Well, I must say, miracles do come true. Mr. Sinclair you are perfectly fine." Hank stated. " I see no reason to keep you here any longer. You are free to go." Hank spoke.
" So, I'm good? I can leave? I don't need to use the canes anymore?" Ian asked.
" Nope, unless something happens to force you, you are perfectly fine to walk about on your own." Hank explained.
" So, can I start practicing in the danger room? With the others? Can I join one of the training squads?" Ian asked. He wanted to be a hero, to be like the X-Men. But his disease would never allow it. But now, now things were different. He no longer had to be worried about accidentally breaking his legs or his own neck. Now, he was just like everyone else.
" I wouldn't recommend it so soon. You're not used to the danger room, and it's still unclear if this is a permanent change. So, I can't clear you for the danger room." And just like that Hank had dashed Ian's hopes. " But I can clear you for training. Basic health training. More running, more of a basic PE trial if you will. I can have one of our teachers help you build your foundation up. And at the end of our little trial, if you can handle it, then we'll see about moving you onto one of the squads. I might even start one of my own just for you." Hank explained.
It wasn't much, but Hank had given Ian some leeway to possibly make it onto one of the squads, all he had to do was work hard and try to get in shape.
" I can do that. But who would be my teacher? I mean isn't everyone else busy running the squads?" Ian asked.
" That'd be me runt." Ian turned to the sound of the voice in the doorway and in walked the one man, Ian dreaded more than anyone else in the entire school, Logan, the wolverine, Howlett. " Sup, runt. How are you feeling?" Logan asked.
" Good. I guess. Better than good actually, I feel amazing." Ian replied.
" Good, cuz yer training begins now. Outside runt." Logan said to the boy.
" Like right now, right now?" Ian asked.
" OUTSIDE!" Logan growled.
Ian hopped up to his feet and ran past Logan in a hurry. Why because when the wolverine tells you to do something, you do it.
" Logan, be careful. The boy's just now walking on his own for the first time, don't go too overboard until we can know for sure his body can handle it." Hank explained to the man.
" Ahhh, come on, furball. You know me. I'm just a bundle of sunshine and joy." Logan replied sacastically.
" That's exactly what I'm afraid of my friend." Hank joked back.
" Yeah, well don't worry about the runt. I'll make sure to take good care of him." Logan spoke.
Hank deadpanned looked at him and Logan sighed.
' Look, Hank don't worry. I promise not to go too overboard until you give me the go ahead, but when you do just know... I'm going full steam ahead. He ain't got none of the gimmicks and tricks the others got. He ain't got a hand up on everybody else. All he's got is them hands of his. And by the time I'm done with him, he'll be the best damned hand to hand fighter in this whole school. Just you watch." Logan explained to the man.
" Alright, Logan. Just make sure to watch him carefully. Let me know if you notice any signs that his body is failing." Hank spoke.
" Like I said, Hank. I promise." Logan grinned and walked out of the room after Ian, leaving Hank behind to go over his findings in peace... Or rather make a steamy phone call.
" Yes, can I speak to sage." Hank asked.
