Chapter 9 - ISSUE #9

Three days later, Logan retrieved Ian and prepared him for his first session in the danger room. This would be the moment where Scott and the others would decide If Ian could continue his training and join one of the squads.

P.O.V first person.

I entered the Danger Room alone, for the first in me life. And I can't believe how big this place is.

" Ah, Logan. Do I really need to wear this in here?" I asked the man. Right before coming down here, he gave me his version of a super suit. A black spandex one piece with a yellow belt. On the belt there was a black and red piece. The buckle was red but the X on it was black. The spandex had a matching red and black X on it on the chest. Also on the spandex, there were three claw shaped accents on each of the shoulders in the color of yellow. Rounding this outlandish outfit out were a pair of black gloves and pair of black combat botts with yellow stripes going across them.

" Ya gotta represent. I'm calling ya the Ultimate Wolverine." Logan exclaimed.

I turned back to the man and frowned.

" Fine, I won't call that." Logan replied.

" Alright, Ian. This is going to be a simple obstacle course, get to the end within the time limit and you pass." Mr. Summers explained.

I nodded and watched as he pressed a button on the panel above. The room started changing, an all intents and purposed virtual reality machine used by the x-men to train for any possible situation, the danger room turned on and a large obstacle course full of blades and other dangerous contraptions appeared from nowhere.

" AND GO!" Scott shouted.

I rushed forward towards the center of the room where there were two high walls. Figuring it would be quicker for me to just go straight ahead, I ran towards them. I jumped into the air and planted one foot against the shorter wall, using it as a springboard to launch myself up to the next platform. I caught the top of the platform and launched myself up and over it. I rolled along the edge of the wall and hopped up to my feet and continued running, a short railing suddenly popped, I quickly grabbed it and vaulted over it with ease. I continued running, thinking things were easy, but just as I was beginning to feel confident a giant saw sprung out sideways.

" WHOA!" I shouted. I quickly dropped to the ground and slid on my knees, just barely missing the giant saw. I skimmed across the ground and jumped back up to my feet once I was clear of the saw. I kept going and soon I could see the end of the line.

P.O.V 3rd person.

While Ian was busy making his way through the obstacle course Scott, Logan, Emma, Hank, and Dani, one of the squad teachers, watched as he made quick work of the rookie course.

" Well, what do you think?" Logan asked.

" I think it's definitely a step up from what he could do before. Which is nothing, so progress." Emma replied.

" Now, Emma. No need to be rude. Though this is only the starting course, he's doing pretty good. And that first vault, that takes speed, agility, and coordination. I assume that little trick was your doing, Logan?" Scott asked.

" Nah, it wasn't mine. But it sure was impressive." Logan replied.

" What kind of training have you been doing, Logan. I saw Ian a few weeks ago and he was as small as a toothpick. Now he looks bigger than David." Dani asked. She was impressed by how big; Ian had become in just a few weeks.

" The boy's body is a machine. His growth rate is like five times that of a human. A few weeks ago, he could do maybe twenty pushups. Today he can do a thousand. This one's a game changer. I beat him black and blue two days ago and now he can take it. It's like his skin is getting thicker." Logan explained.

" Well, I'll admit you did a good job, Logan. But I don't think he's ready for the squads." Emma stated.

" Oh, Emma don't be like that. If you don't want him, I'll take him." Dani spoke up.

" Really Dani? Isn't your squad already set?" Scott asked.

" Well, I'm trying to find the last member, but for now we still only have five. I think he'd be great for the New Mutants." Dani explained.

" Hmm, let's see if he passes this test first. If he does, then go ahead. If not." Scott started.

" I'll still take him." Dani interjected. " He's shown more than enough for me to give him a passing grade. He's quick on his feet, good reflexes, and a hard worker. Yeah, I have to have him." Dani exclaimed.

" All right. If that's what you want Dani, I'll officially place him on the new mutants." Scott stated bluntly. " Now let's finish watching the show."

Scott and the others all turned back towards the danger room and continued watching Ian's run through the danger room.

P.O.V first person.

" All right." I can see the end in sight, I just need to get to the top of this wall. I ran as fast as I could towards the slope and exploded upwards and grabbed hold of the ledge and pulled myself up. Once I was too my feet, an alarm rang signaling the end of the course.

" Well done, Runt." Logan stated.

The room started changing once more and reverted to its previous state.

" Come on up." Logan shouted.

I nodded and walked out of the danger room and took the stairs up to the observation deck where I saw Logan and the others who were watching, waiting for me.

" So, how did I do?" I asked, hoping to get some vindication for my hard work.

" You did, good." Mr. Summers spoke. " It was only the beginner's course, but you still did better than most who make that attempt the first time. Of course, you still have a way to go, but as far as I'm concerned, you're ready." Scott explained. " Now, what does the good doctor think?" Scott asked hank.

For the first time since he greeted me, Mr. McCoy looked up from his computer and spoke to me.

" Well, I see no problems at all. No indications that you're in any danger, in fact I see the opposite. The more you work your body the more it adjusts. I haven't seen even a single dip in your breathing the entire time. As my personal opinion as a doctor and a scientist, I say you're good to go." Hank stated.

" Well, there you have it." Scott spoke. " And I have more good news. This was more than just a test; this was a trial run. We've talked it over and decided that for the time being you'll placed under Dani, on her squad the New Mutants." Scott explained.

" How about it, Ian? " Dani asked.

" Is this for real?" I asked.

I was overjoyed, an entire month's worth of hard work finally paid off.

" It is if you want it." Dani replied.

" Let's go!" I exclaimed. I threw my arm forward in excitement and nearly slugged Mr. McCoy. " Sorry, hehahaha! I mean yes." I spoke nervously after nearly decapitating my teacher.

" Haha! Alright then, I'll have a uniform made for you and start thinking of a codename. Tomorrow you'll meet the team. Any questions?" Dani asked.

" Nope, I'm just really excited!" I told the woman.

" Good, you've earned it runt. No more weekdays with me. From now on, yer Moonstar's responsibility. So, make sure not to make me look bad." Logan spoke up.

" Thank you all, so much for this. Especially you, Logan. I wouldn't have come this far without your training."

" Don't mention it runt. Keep the suit. If you ever decide you don't want to wear gold and white." Logan spoke. " Now go, we grownups got things to talk about." Logan exclaimed.

I nodded and quickly left. I knew there was no reason to stay behind any longer and arguing with Logan was a game I would never win. He's just too damn stubborn to give up. And frankly, I think that's where I get my own motivation from.

I walked all the way back to my room and flopped down on the bed. " I can't believe how good things turned out. Now, I really can't wait for Saturday."
