'Are you going to be okay if he ignores you tomorrow simply because you want to be f*cked today?' The first voice questioned, and Steph looked one last time at Ivan and shook her head.
She saw the hurt on his face and looked away, too afraid she would crumble.
"I'm sorry. We can't do this," Steph said as she sat straight on the chair and stretched her hands to pick her clothes from the floor. She wiped her mouth using her palms as if to erase the kiss.
"Yeah," Ivan said as he walked away, not even once turning to look at Steph.
He felt like his manhood had been mocked: no lady had ever refused him except Steph.
One minute she was all lovey-dovey with him but the next, she pushed him away, and he honestly understood why she didn't like him, and it made him loathe him.
Ironically, there was a part of him that respected her for that, and it made him want to have her and make her his.
He entered his bedroom and headed straight to the washroom, where he took so many minutes just looking at himself and wondering how he could at least get Steph to think positively of him just once.
That night, when they met for supper, the sexual tension between them was still heavy, so they didn't even sit at the same dining table.
When they went to their bedrooms, neither of them couldn't sleep.
They kept turning left and right, looking at the ceiling, and using their phones to try to get some sleep, but insomnia had hit them hard.
They fell asleep way past four am, and that's when the hell broke loose.
"Shit!" Steph cursed as she jerked upright on the bed and listened keenly to hear the noise from outside.
She could hear muffled voices, and she feared that thieves might have broken into their compound. She slowly got from bed and switched on her smartphone's torch, and walked on her toes toward Ivan's room.
She could hear him snoring and wondered how he wasn't awake with the noise going on outside.
She opened his door and walked to his bedside.
"Ivan, Ivan," she called, but he turned on the other side of the bed and continued sleeping.
"Some guys are outside. They might be thieves. Please wake up," Steph called in a tense voice, but Ivan continued sleeping.
Steph shone her torch around the room and saw a glass of water next to the bedside drawer. Angrily, she poured the water on Ivan's face, and he jerked up as he cursed.
He was so angry that he looked like he could beat up Steph.
"Why are you here?" He asked after rubbing his eyes and taking note of Steph.
"Can't you hear that?" Steph asked as she looked at Ivan angrily, but the noise had subsided, and there was calm instead.
"There is nothing!" Ivan angrily said as he attempted to get back to sleep, but Steph wasn't ready to hear any of it.
To satisfy Steph's desires, Ivan moved to the window to peep outside.
The security lights had been tampered with and were off, but at the gate, they could see some flash of light and make out a figure of two people.
"Goodness!" Ivan said as he turned to look at Steph.
"What should we do? Call the cops?" Steph asked, but Ivan assured her that they would handle it at dawn after calling his father.
Steph was so afraid that she refused to go back to her room, forcing the two to share a bed for the first time in their fake relationship.
The first thing Ivan and Steph noticed the following morning was how their cars had been vandalized.
"Oh my God! What the fuck, Ivan! We really should have called the police," Steph said in an angry tone as she pointed the finger at the wreckage of her father's car. "Is this even a car, for crying out loud? My dad will be so annoyed at me. He is going to cut off my allowances, and how am I going to survive? How am I even going to get to the hospital and see off Travis, who is being discharged?" Steph continued ranting, but Ivan looked on in silence.
He couldn't wrap his mind around how the men had broken into their compound, which was highly secure without their alarms breaking off.
"Aren't you going to say something? Why are you just standing around as if nothing happened? I honestly couldn't sleep the whole night after this scare, yet you were beside me, snoring and dreaming. I don't get it…I don't get how you're so comfortable with all of these. Is there something I should know about?" Steph asked as she held her head, sighed, inhaled, and exhaled deeply.
