The morning sun was still low on the horizon when Lord Jasper made his way to the secluded study at the far end of his estate. His steps were measured, his thoughts heavy with the conversation he knew awaited him. Nicole had still been asleep when he left their bed, her face peaceful in the soft light. The bond they shared made leaving her side a struggle, but the matter at hand was too urgent to delay.
The study was dimly lit, the heavy drapes drawn to keep out the chill. A fire crackled in the hearth, casting flickering shadows on the walls lined with ancient tomes and scrolls. At the center of the room stood Lord Vicar, a tall, imposing figure with a presence that commanded respect as they were both equal in height. His blue eyes were sharp and observant, his face lined with the weight of his knowledge and power.
"Jasper," Lord Vicar greeted, his voice a deep, resonant timbre. "Thank you for meeting me so early."
