Finally! "That's the last box", Mike called out to Amelia. It had been a long and exhausting day. The move from London to Australia was a new start for the Smiths and they were looking forward to settling down in their beautifully renovated century old, two story house with daughters Emily and Sophie. Amelia walked over with two coffees in her hand and passed one to Mike. As they settled on the couch there was a knock at the door.
As Mike reached the door he noticed a cool breeze. Much colder than he would have expected in an Australian autumn. A tall, wiry man with glasses perched high on his nose smiled grimly. "Hello, my name is Jack. I live next door. Just wanted to welcome you to the neighbourhood". "Hi, pleased to meet you" Mike stretched out his hand to shake Jack's hand but the man retreated. "Well have a nice day" Jack said. "Be sure to come over for a drink one day". And with that the strange man headed down the footpath and turned into his own yard. Mike closed the front door and went in search of Amelia who was sitting at the kitchen bench on her laptop. "Who was that?" she sked. "Our neighbour Jack. Seems friendly enough" Mike replied. Mike thought there was something strange about the man dressed in clothing as if he were out of a 1920s film but he wasn't about to tell Amelia that. They had already had their fair share of trauma and they were here to start anew. Mike was sure Jack was just an odd friendly fellow.
