Chapter 3 - A New Position

Sitting in the agency, Jacquie sat opposite Mike on her laptop tapping away and waiting for the paperwork to print out. The position for Mike was a psychologist for Maine Hospital in the Mental health ward. It was the perfect job for Mike. Finally the last piece of paper had ejected from the printer and Jacquie stapled them together, handing them over to Mike. He was to start the next morning at 8am and had a ward of 7 patients to visit as well as 2 out of ward patients. This was exactly what Mike needed and was happy to have a job so quickly. Thanking Jacquie he gathered up his keys and phone and headed back to his car ready to get home and read all the info he had just received. He knew that working with these patients would be exhausting and he was in for an early night so the drink with Jack would be put on hold for now.

As Mike pulled the car into the driveway he noticed Jack sitting on his verandah, a pipe hanging from his mouth. He waved with a sly smile. He really was a perculiur man. He was still wearing the same clothes as yesterday too. Mike went to greet him but he had already gone back inside. Nevermind Mike thought as he headed towards the house to tell Amelia about the new job.

Amelia was in the laundry putting on a load of washing. "Hey there" Mike said startling her. She hadn't heard him come in and she jumped in fright. She didn't tell him about the noises she had heard earlier while he was out. She didn't want to make him worry for nothing. Amelia reached out and wrapped her arms around Mike asking him how the appointment went. "Great" he replied. "I have a new position and start tomorrow!" "That's fantastic. I knew you'd get something straight away" she excitedly said. "I'll make a roast for dinner and a chocolate devil cake for dessert to celebrate!" Amelia said as she hurriedly ran off to get started on the dinner.

Mike sat down on the laundry hamper feeling quite please with how things were going when he suddenly heard the same eerie music playing that he had heard that morning. The music gave him the chills. It was a childlike tune but it had a sense of evil to it.
