Chapter 6 - Death... The sweet nectar of it.

While Diana had her eyes shut in anticipation of death, she had a shrill cry from the duo standing in front of her and she couldn't help but open her eyes to behold what it was.

Her neighbour had heard her cry earlier and rushed to see what it was. He met the men standing in front of her. "What would I do?" He said to himself as he searched around for an object to attack them with.

He saw an iron rod sitting in a corner on the stairs, grabbed it and then returned to the room, Making absolutely no sound.

Before the men realized that he was behind them, they had passed out already.

"Are you alright?" He asked, running his hand through Diana's face. He was worried and no matter how hard he tried to hide it, he just couldn't.

He had feelings for her and had asked her out but their genotype came in the way of them having a relationship. They had since then remained friends.

"Yes I'm fine, I hope you aren't hurt?" She inquired, trying to catch her breath. She had with all sincerity thought that she was going to die at that moment.

"I'm fine."

"But how did you find out I was in danger?" She asked, fixing her gaze on the two idiots Stretched out in front of her.

"I stepped out to get some fresh air, you know to cool my nerves when I suddenly heard your yell. It was strange for you to do so at this time of the night so I had to rush you here immediately!"

"Oh, thanks so much, Josh! I really appreciate it!" She sounded emotional as she spoke, and that was something she didn't want.

She liked Him and if there wasn't the issue of their genotype, they'd be together.

Just at that moment, the police arrived. About five of them.

"Are you okay miss Diana?" The sheriff asked with care and affection. She was Diana's pal.

"Sure, I am, thanks to Josh. He arrived just in time before those guys got to kill me!"

"Ooo, that's good," the sheriff muttered under her breath and then turned to Josh. "It's been a while. How are you doing?"

"I'm fine and you. How's work?"

"Well, as you can see, it's hectic. This is the third call we are getting this night and not so many officers are on duty tonight."

"Oh my goodness, that must be so stressful!"

"Yeah it is, but it's something we have to do," she muttered under a sigh and watched the officers cart the men away like they were some log of wood.

"Thanks so much, if not you Josh, I'd be dead by now!" She said, locking him in a tight embrace, one that bore words they wouldn't say to each other.

It was seven am the next day and the news of the attempted murder of Diana's life spread like wildfire throughout Texas and Diana herself couldn't explain how it happened because it was only Josh that had been there that night and she knew Josh wasn't one to gossip. She was sure it was her sassy neighbour who must have heard the uproar and refused to help out.

She had woken up earlier than usual that morning, had her bath and was about to leave the house when she decided to check the internet.

She was shocked to the marrow as all newspapers had carried the news. "Well well, it's all good for me," she muttered and then dashed out of her room.

But it wasn't the same in some other places as they had hoped Diana would be dead already.

"What do you mean the police caught them?" Judge Clinton asked with a flabbergasted grimace when his secretary called to inform him of the latest development.

"Before they were able to break in, Diana had contacted the police. A neighbour of hers also came to her rescue, leaving them with no chance to escape.

"Damn it! What the hell is this? This is only a simple task and yet you find it difficult to carry out! If this witch spills anything that she isn't meant to, I'd have your heads on a platter, got it?"

There was no response from the other side.

"I need you to do anything you can to get those bastards out of the police custody immediately!" He ordered and Hung up almost immediately.

His heart raced against his chest as the realization of what would happen to him if she spills the truth dawned on him. He couldn't understand why she was such a pain in the ass all the time.

"Having a bit of fun in Life Isn't a sin!" He muttered allowed as he slumped into one of the chairs in his large sitting room.

Micheal got up earlier than usual that morning feeling so excited. He couldn't understand why. Probably because he was heading to work after a long while.

He was a private investigator and owned one of the biggest investigation firms in the states but then he had lagged in the last few months as a result of partying and womanising, leaving all matters of the firm to his staff.

Now he was resuming back to work with the intention of becoming better than he was.

He stepped out of the room in a two-piece Italian suit and in a Salvatore Ferragamo looking so handsome and taken away.

His parents stared in amazement, wondering what had suddenly come over their son.

"Where are you heading to?" His mother inquired, staring him all over with a look of admiration.

"Where am I expected to head to at this time of the morning if it's not the office," he answered with an exasperated grimace.

"Wow! So you mean you are finally going back to work?" His mother asked, finding it hard to believe what he had just said.

"Yes," he responded with a shrug of the shoulder and sauntered 0ff.

"Thank goodness Michael has decided to make good use of his life!" His elder sister fired, taking everyone by surprise.
