Chapter 9 - Not your regular lawyer!!!

They moved their attention to where they heard the sound from, wondering who it was that had the audacity to speak to them in such a manner.

It was Diana Wellington and with her entrance came an aura of grace and elegance, one she always had in everything she does.

"What are you doing here miss Diana?" The jailer asked with so much disdain, staring her all over but like she gave a damn. She gave no thought to him or anyone else in that place except The little girl she had some to see.

"How are you dear?" She asked, totally ignoring the jailer's question.

"I'm fine. Thank goodness you are here!" She heaved a sigh of relief.

"I just asked what business you have here? You weren't scheduled to see her today and by the way, can't you see that we were in the middle of a discussion before you brought your sassy Ass over here," the middle aged man shot back in rage, eyeing her Viciously.

"In all you do, do you do dare speak to me the way you do to your wife and kids at home. I'm here to see my client, and no one, not even you can stop me!" She muttered with a note of finality before moving her attention to her client.

"Do you know anything about the prison break?" She inquired, grabbing herself a seat.

The poor girl began to sob, unable to speak a word for almost a minute.. "I knew about it, but only tonight. Those in my cell were forcing me to join them so I wouldn't spill anything about their escape but like I said to the jailer, if I had escaped, it would make people believe that I actually commited the crime. And even when I escape, What would become of me? I'd become a wanderer and a fugitive. That's the Last thing I want for myself!"

"Yeah, that's a good decision you made. I assure you that you have only a limited time to spend here."

"What makes you so sure attorney diana? We've got no substantial evidence to prove my innocence."

"Yeah, that's true, but already have a strong weapon that would have the judge taken off your case."

"Really?" The Young girl asked in disbelief.

"Yeah!" Diana affirmed, placing her hands on her shoulders.

The mayor got up from his chair with so much drama like he had just seen a ghost, taking his secretary by surprise.

"What's the problem sir?" She asked as she continued her work.

"It's nothing my dear, I'd be leaving for the correctional facility in a few minutes. Aren't the representatives here yet?" He quizzed with a thick frown embedded into his face. He couldn't understand why some people couldn't learn to keep to simple time.

"I contacted them sir and they assured that they'd be here in an hour. Their flight was delayed."

"An hour? Then I'd have to head to the facility now and then, they'd have to wait for me until I arrive.

"Alright sir." She uttered, still without raising her eyes from the laptop.

He watched her for a while, wondering how he came to have a workaholic as his secretary when he was also one. His stare had some meaning attached to it. He had feelings for her but didn't know how to tell her about it.

Well, there was no big deal in that. He was very much single and you could say he was well to do, at least in a way. He was in his early thirties and had people eyeing him, but then he gave none of them no attention. Was it because he had someone in his mind already? He couldn't understand.

"Is there anything you want sir?" She asked when she saw him staring at her..

"No, I don't need anything. I was only wondering how a workaholic like myself came to be secretary. You've been working on the laptop for over three hours work commenced"

"Yes, sir. Have you forgotten you have a press conference by next week?I have to make the speech ready before sending it to the editor."

"Oh my goodness. I completely forgot. thanks so much," he said as he stepped out of the office.

He walked to the main office where there were over two dozen persons working their ass out. He modded his head in Satisfaction, happy that they were doing their jobs without him having to force them.

He stole a glance at his wrist watch and began to grumble. He couldn't understand how and why people Found it difficult to keep to time. The representatives were an hour behind schedule and didn't even deem it fit to update him about their movements.

Well, he was the one trying to act nice. No more. They would have to wait for him this time until he's back from the correctional facility.

He placed to Micheal who he was to meet later in the day, if only the representatives had arrived earlier.

"Hi Micheal," he greeted as he walked to his car where his driver was already seated.

"Hello sir!" Came the response almost immediately..

"I need you to meet me at the Austin prison immediately."

"But sir, we were scheduled to meet later in the afternoon," he protested. He had carefully planned his schedule and leaving the office just like that meant he was going to have a backlog of work.

"Meet me now. It is urgent!" The mayor said and hung up, making Micheal wonder what could be the problem.
