Chapter 9 - Encounters

MORGAN

we sat in silence and I stared at the window. It was dark now and the forest we'd been traveling in for hours seemed eerie. I gasped when I thought I saw something standing among the trees but it might have been my eyes playing tricks on me.

That's what I thought until I saw it again and again. "Demetre, is there anything that's supposed to be here?" I asked. Something didn't feel right and each time that figure appeared it seemed to come closer. "None that I know of, this is neutral land between us and the vampires there's nothing here except woodland creatures."

I stared at the window again and there it was. "There's someone out there Demetre, they've been following us for some time now," he looked at me without an expression. "It must be one of the guard witches, you need one to open the Barrier that surrounds the vampire kingdom." "It's not Demetre, there's something else out here; I can't explain it but something isn't right."

We started bickering back and forth and then the car started swerving on the road and before either of us knew it it had stared to roll down into the forest. We stopped when my side slammed into a tree trunk, hard.

I was upsidedown. My head was pounding and my vision kept going in and out of focus. Demetre was barely conscious as an unseen force ripped open his side of the door and dragged him out. The smoke started to choke me and sting my eyes. I saw a figure lay him on the ground and grab the sides of his head.

He screamed, drowning out whatever that person was saying and the he just stopped. "Demetre, Demetre!!" I screamed fearing he was dead and then the feet started coming towards me. It came to the doorway and stared at me dead in the eye. She, stared at me with an evil glare and clear irritation.

She muttered something and my head slammed against window. Everything became muffled and blurry. I said something even I couldn't hear then it all went dark.

MALACHAI

Lucas, Mía and I sat in the garden catching up whole waiting for Demetre and his...queen. The other royals had gone to the festival in the heart of the city, truly a beautiful sight.

We could see the fireworks from our seats and they were beautiful, but not as much as her. I smiled to myself but stopped when something else mixed with the gun powder, something that seemed foreign and it was coming closer and closer.

The next thing I heard were footsteps, three four maybe? Lucas and Mia seemed to notice by now as well. That's when I caught the first whiff of it mingled with the scent of blood so much that it appeared diluted. I stood up at the same time as my old friends and the door burst open.

Jack was the first to barge in and there was an unconscious male he was supporting. Michael came in shortly after supporting another male but when I saw Drake all the color drained from my face.

He carried in his arms, a young woman who was knocked out cold and drenched in her own blood. Her silver locks were partially dyed read in some parts. "Take them to the infirmary, now!" I commanded once I could speak again. The three of us followed close behind leaving frightened servants in our wake.

How could this happen? The questions came flooding in by the dozens.

We reached the infirmary and luckily there was no one there at the moment. Doctors began cleaning the trio up and all the while I couldn't wrap my head around it. Why this? And how? Life really was full of surprises I remembered that Drake and the others were still here.

"Please tell us what happened," Mia said in a calm voice. They looked at each other and Jack began to speak.

"We were tracking the witches that recently went missing but when we reached the wasteland, it couldn't be traced. It was like their scents were everywhere but no where at once."

"We decided to come back to tell you where we had lost them taking the shortest route through the werewolf capital. That's when Micheal saw the skid marks on the road and noticed that there was the smell of smoke and gas in the air."

"We went off course and found the king's car upsidedown against a tree. The driver was unconscious with pieces of glass stuck in him; the king was outside the car unconscious as well with multiple gashes and the queen well...she was no different. They pulled the two out of the already burning car and when we had just gotten away from it it exploded."

I was as furious as I was confused. "Thank you, for saving them. You may go," I said and turned back to the other as they left. Someone attacked them specifically, they knew who they were it the quest remains who and why? Demetre and the driver should have healed by now but judging by how they arrived...magic was involved, she was obviously behind this. Wasn't this a little too extreme?

We sat there in silence, each one in their own thoughts. Mia had called the others and told them what happened and they too were concerned. Our biggest worry, my biggest worry was Morgan. She was human, if she ended up succumbing to her injuries one of us would have to turn her and that would mean possible war unless he turned her himself that made bile rise to my throat and I couldn't afford her death for reasons of my own.

Hours later, the driver we now knew as Alex and Demetre had healed fully with a Cassy's help but Morgan was still out cold. She was frightened and furious when I mentioned her, and things rarely made Cassy show any emotion other than irritation or amusement. I knew why of course it was a secret kept between the two of us.

It made it hard for me to follow her rules, nad it especially made it hard when I found out she was taken by that mutt. I knew Cassy cared about her but I couldn't help but wonder what else she was hiding, she always said she'll tell me when the time was right.

MORGAN

"Are you related to Lina?" I asked the man that had been keeping me company and teaching me something that she hadn't. He chuckled, "that obvious huh?" I nodded.

I was well aware that this was a dream and I didn't want to wake from it. Not because I didn't want to go back but because I connected with this man more than anyone I ever met except Lina and because he told me that once I wake up I would lose all my memories of him. I dreaded that and didn't even know why. We were in the middle of a conversation when he stopped and focused on something behind me.

A ghost of a smile crossed his face. "Looks like someone's here to see you little girl," I looked behind and saw the mass of shadows I had grown to love. That strange pull was back again like it never left. "I've been trying to get to you for a while Morgan," he said. I looked back at Gio and he smiled, "we'll see each other soon little girl," he smile and faded away.

A gloved hand came from the shadows and I took it without hesitation. "I would love to keep you here all to myself but everyone is worried about you,"

I opened my eyes and the harsh white light made me hiss in pain and annoyance. After a few seconds my eyed adjusted and I saw that I was in a hospital room. Then it all came back.

The figure

The accident

Demetre screaming

And the woman who's face was now blurred out.

I ripped the IV and walked out of my room, surprisingly it was empty. I didn't know where I was and right now the only person I knew was Demetre. Successfully I made it out of the infirmary and into what looked like a palace hallway.

"And where might you be going?" A voice said. A deep, silky oddly calm voice. A voice I would recognize anywhere. I turned and was met with his face, his beautiful godlike face. "A chuckle came from him, "beautiful is one way of saying it."

My entire face heated up as he voiced my thoughts.

But I just kept staring. He had the most beautiful shade of blue in his eyes they looked unearthly. Long and dark eyelashes framed his eyes and two perfectly full eyebrows right on top of them. My gaze travelled down to his lips and they were full as well, those same lips had kissed me in my dreams multiple times.

They pulled into a smirk and I stared into his eyes again. "You're real," I whispered, "of course Mon amour, very real." I was stunned. "Come with me Morgan, there is a lot you and I need to talk about."

He pulled me to him and we were swallowed by shadows. When they sunk into the ground we had been transported into something that looked like a workshop.

A woman came in and I couldn't help but feel like I'd seen her somewhere before. She stared at me then at the man. "Well, better late than never," she muttered. "Morgan, you're going to have to sit down for what we're about to tell you.

"I'm sure you know me from many of your dreams as far back as two years ago but, I've been in your life longer than that." He said.

"I found you in the forest between the vampire and ghoul kingdom more than a decade ago. You were unconscious and clearly human so I took you to the outskirts of the werewolf capital because I thought it would be safest. I thought that whoever left you there had good reason and so I cloaked you before leaving you with the people you now know as you parents-"

"Wait," I cut the lady off. "You're saying you found me in a forest, but that can't be right; I've known my parents for my entire life and have the pictures to prove it!" I yelled becoming uneasy. She sighed, "I'm one of the most powerful Vetsmati witches Morgan, I can easily fabricate those things and that's what I did. I altered their memories and gave you false ones because somehow you had no memories from before I found you."

"I visited you every three months to renew the cloaking spell and make sure you were okay." "On one of those visits Malachai here decided to follow me and the moment he saw you at the park-" "- I'll tell her," he interrupted and turned to me.

"When I saw you at the park playing in that sand box my heart tightened. I knew that you were mine. I couldn't say or do anything at the time because Cassy wouldn't let me and of course you were a child. You were eight at that time and even then I was completely taken by you."

"I made sure to come see you every two weeks but I had to wipe your memory of me clean every time. It pained me but I had to because we didn't know what type of danger you would be in," for years until you were taken by that mutt Cassy and I kept that habit. When you turned sixteen I was watching you sleep and somehow you saw me. It still escapes me to this day how you did. And that's how I began appearing in your dreams every night. One thing lef to another and well you know the rest."

I was stunned the entire time. So my parents were not my parents, no one knew who my real parents were or if they were even alive. I was the fated mate to Malachai who I now knew was the Omkiron so if he and I made this official I would wnd up as his Onkire...

Onkire. The very thought terrified me, I was not queen material. I never said anything to Demetre because he would just have me for show and I didn't want my parents to be killed but with him it would be different.

I looked at him, he just stared at me with an emotion I was sure mirrored my own. This man had been in my life and seen me through my best and worst moments. I knew he wasn't real but that didn't stop me from falling for him and now that he was real, he was here would we be all I hoped we'd become in my dreams?

"I understand," was all I could say. My hand went to touch his cheek and suddenly realized sucker punched me in the face.

Demetre.

"We can't be together can we, with me being Demetre's chosen?" My voice sounded pained and hollow. He smiled, "not now, you'll have to stay with him just a little while so I can tell him and the supernatural council. This has only ever happened once and fated mates rank way above chosens. Do we can hope for them to favor us. But Morgan, you cannot tell him or anyone yet."

I nodded in understanding. Cassy looked at us smiling like a mother would at her children. "Come on now, we have to get you dressed for the meeting, you're already four days behind."
