Chapter 9 - Chapter nine †Classic brunch†

"Must I wear heels?", My mother's panicked voice reached my ears again. Before I could even think of an answer more questions erupted from her mouth. ,"I only have one proper dress, and that's my wedding dress and it's way too bulky, but hey we're going to an elite venue so do you think maybe I can wear it?". I was definetely against that so I shook my head frantically, knowing that when I tried to speak she'd start talking again. "Do you know where I put my old makeup set?".

I approached my mother and put one hand to her mouth. "Mother chill, I am sure the Blake's will love you just as much as I do because you are absolutely perfect, and I mean all the time, be it heels, dresses, makeup and jewellery, okay?". She made a muffled noise and I removed my hand from her mouth.

"Pardon?".

"That is utter gibberish!", she yelled before running to her phone.

Who was she calling now?.

I walked over to her and tried my best to listen even as she tried with all her effort to block the conversation from me.

"Great I will be waiting", She turned the phone away from me and cut the call.

"Who was that?".

"Laika said I should wear a plain black dress and she is coming to do the magic."

I narrowed my eyes at her and she simply grinned.

"That's how you sweet talk all the ladies at work", mom chuckled.

"Really mother?, there aren't even ladies at work, there are literally grandma's".

Mom laughed "You could still pull them", she winked.

I groaned.

"Speaking of that, I got kissed", the words flew out of my mouth so fast, that anyone other than my mother wouldn't have heard.

To say she was shocked would be an understatrment, her mouth hung ajar with her eyes blown.

She approached me and shrieked "Your first kiss oh my heavens, who was it?".

She seemed more excited than I had been yesterday and that amused me.

"I am not telling you", I joked.

In seconds she had embraced me and started to beg me to tell her like I was a child, she noticed that the bear hug she was squashing me with was no longer working so she began to tickle me.

"Okay okay it was Laika".

She was shocked for a moment but recovered immediately "My baby is now so grown, how did it feel?, how long?, did she-".

"Mother no! She did not, I did not even kiss her back".

"But why?".

I raised my hands into the air "I am not having this conversation with my mother".

The moment she yelled 'Oh come on', the door opened.

"I'm going to take a bath", I rushed for the bathroom as Laika approached.

My mother remained laughing.

I shut the bathroom door quickly behind me. It was hot today so bathing with cold water was enticing, then again the conversation with my mother had raised the temperature.

When I was done I painstakingly took my sweet time to dress up. I settled for grey sweat pants, a grey short sleeved sweat shirt with rips across it, my mother had bought it for me a while ago and I did not like it but she seemed generally happy already so I'd literally fly to the moon and back to see another smile. That's how much I loved her.

I struggled to get the grey sneakers on so when I did sighed in relief.

I walked out of my room to the living room where almost everything was everywhere.

My mom looked stunning, thats all i could say. "You look beautiful".

She smiled "Thank you, I know, Oh my gosh are you seriously wearing that".

I grinned at her shyly.

My eyes found their way to Laika "Ncaw look at him".

I groaned.

"Sit down", Laika told me.

Obediently I walked over to her and sat on the chair.

I looked at her through the mirror and watched carefully as she raised a comb and divided my hair into three parts.

She lifted and opened a container and scooped out some gel and before I could disagree the cold guu was smeared on the sides closest to my ears.

I shivered because this felt wrong.

When she was done my usually straight hair was curly, the sides were jelled back and if I was sure she plaited it at the back.

"I look gay", I told them.

My mothers eyes were filled with joy and she stared at me like i was a new born puppy. "You look handsome".

"Thank you", I whispered.

"No he looks gorgeous", Laika winked.

I rolled my eyes at her feminine compliment.

"Mom can I borrow your phone?".

She tossed it at me and i smiled at her whilst she buckled her left shoe.

I called Mr Blake and he answered on the third ring.

"This is Lindon, could you send me the location of the venue".

"Nonsense, Anastasia has already sent a car to your home it has been waiting for thirty minutes I assume".

I flew to the window in seconds and to my surprise there was a limousine parked outside.

"My word, I had no clue sir we will be there right away".

The boss simply chuckled and cut the call.

I had never been in a limo before and I was in my words the opposite of chilled.

"Mom the car is outside", just like I had done before I watched as she rushed to the window the click clack of her high heels torture to my ears.

"Is that a?".

"Yes", I squealed.

"Then let us be on our merry way", Mom lifted her hand and I entwined our fingers as we walked out.

Laika rushed home after insisting on takimg a picture of us infront of the car.

Once inside mom and I talked for almost an hour since the venue was so far away.

She told me how she won her first round of chess with Diamond Beard.

And about how she managed to knit a scarf.

I held it in my hands and rubbed the wooly fabric between my fingers. The pattern had run astray multiple times but I found it heartmelting that she had tried to spell my name on it.

"It's actually nice mom, I love it. Thank you".

She pulled my cheek and I gave her a homicidal sneer "I'll make more until, I'm better at it".

"Practice makes perfect, my Queen", I told her as the venue came into view

I watched as my mother inhaled deeply, I knew that look and I knew she was doubting herself now.

If only she saw what I saw.

"You will do just fine".

The chauffer opened his door but I insisted that he took his seat so that I could be the one to open the door for my mother.

When he was back on his seat, I opened the door and walked round to my mother's door and pulled it open, I held out my hand and made a small bow, we made eye contact then we both started laughing but still she let me pull her out of the car.

"Wow".

"I know right".

"Good afternoon may you sign in here", the stout ugly man tapped the pen against his clipboard.

I only found him ugly because he had stared at my mother for a minute too long. And he had the audaciy to do it in my presence.

Once inside and seated at a table, I could tell mom was grateful for calling Laika.

"Well ain't this a brunch".

Mom scoffed "It's a classic brunch".

"Mrs and Mr Landford the Blake's would like you to join them at their table".

I lifted my eyes to the top of the balcony where only four people were.

Mr Blake, Anastasia and two eldery men.

"Shall we?".

Mom just grinned at me before linking her arm in mine.
