"Good morning scientists of the year, we have a new project that not only would we get a huge sum of money, it would serve as an opportunity to save the world yet again using the power of science. We would forever remain evergreen in the memories of the lives we are about to save," Mr. Erik's unusual friendly tone had taken a turn to his usual gloomy expression, "I'm guessing you know what to do already, put up your best."
Mr. Erik knew the journey he was about to embark on. The people's lives are rested on the shoulders of the scientists, this therefore births the question, 'is humanity going to be saved?'
"Yes sir!" The scientists clamored.
'Brr-brr, brr-brr,' Mr. Erik's phone vibrated. Turning over, he grabbed his phone and Matt's name was on the screen. Matt was calling.
"What now?" Mr. Erik grumbled under his breath. He hated calls, Matt knew that.
As he excused himself from the meeting, he strolled over to his office, accepting the call.
"Hey bro!" Matt exclaimed.
"Long time no talk." He added.
"Matt, I'm not feeling too good." Erik finally responded in a soft voice.
"Really?" He asked with concern. "What's wrong?"
"You called me! You know how much I hate calls. Matt, it better be something important!" Erik snapped.
"Hey, c'mon, it's me, your bro forever. Believe me when I say I have something important to say."
"It better be." He mumbled under his breath.
"I didn't get what you said."
"Talk. Fast."
"Okay, drumroll please… I'M RETURNING FROM MY 3 YEAR LONG TRIP!!" Matt exclaimed.
"Took you long enough." He muttered.
"Cant you pretend to be happy for me? So wicked."
"I'm angry right now."
"Okay, what exactly do you want me to do?"
"The magic words." He answered without an expression.
"Erik, please forgive me."
"Apology accepted."
"Okay, so, more importantly, is your science agency examining that flower deterioration stuff?"
"Of course, Lucas never fails."
"Yeah."
"Why do you ask?"
"Because…," He said with trepidation but continued, "I want to join your agency on this, whoever did this is going to pay."
Erik didn't reply.
"Erik," He called, "You okay man?"
"Yeah, just lost in thought, life of a scientist."
"So is that a yes or no?"
"Yes or no to what?" Erik asked, definitely perplexed.
"Really?" Matt said, a bit disgruntled. "I want to join your agency in studying the deteriorating flowers." Matt reiterated.
"You would have to take an interview and we will run some tests for it. If you aren't up to our standards, then sorry, no job for you. Friendship or no friendship."
"Fair."
"See you around soon."
"Bye!" Matt said heartily.
'Who are these two friends? What is their history? Many questions yet to be answered.'
