Chapter 1 - Prologue

"What!? No way!" A girl yelled as she giggled. "Hannah, what do you think?" She asked. Hannah glanced over with empty eyes.

"I wouldn't." She said.

"Oh, come on! You're telling me you wouldn't even do it for a thousand?" A third girl asked.

"Nope!" The first girl said.

"Ella, you're basically talking about being a whore without the sex." Hannah said.

"Come on, it's not that bad, it's just a date and at worst, you have to give the guy a small peck on the lips." The third girl said defensively.

'Even so, that's not really worth it. It just devalues you in the eyes of society...' Hannah thought. She stood up. "I'm going home." She said.

The first girl looked over in slight surprise. "Ah, okay. Be safe on your way home." She said.

"I will." Hannah said.

"Bye, Hannah!" Ella said as Hannah began to walk away from the parking lot.

'People are so weird...' Hannah thought as she arrived at a cross-walk. She pressed the button to change the light from go to walk. 'They play these social games just so others will interact with them. It's all just a giant mess of mind games.' She continued as she waited. The light changed and she started walking across the street.

'I mean... What's the point? Acting fake just to interact... It only brings false friends.' She thought. Suddenly, she heard the sound of a truck's horn. She looked over and her eyes widened as she saw a bobtail truck heading straight for her. 'Oh.' Was all she could think in that moment of shock as the truck barreled at her.

The truck made contact as the driver slammed the brakes, sending her flying a couple of feet. 'So this is what it feels like to die...' She thought to herself as she struggled to stay conscious, blood dripping from wounds all over her body. 'Warm yet cold... Empty...' She thought. 'I want to cry...' She thought as her vision began to blur. 'It hurts so much...' She thought.

'Is this empty feeling from never really connecting with people?' She wondered. 'Maybe I spent too much time in my room, never accomplishing anything...' She continued. 'I guess it was fun... If nothing else...' She added as her vision began to darken. 'I'm sorry... Mom, dad... I never did anything... I must have let you down quite a bit...' She thought as she felt her consciousness drift into nothing.
