Chapter 9 - Soft Spot

Celestine hurriedly placed her handbag inside her car and went on to find where the faint and helpless puppy cry was coming from. After a few minutes of roaming around and finding nothing, Celestine decided to ask for help.

"Ava? Send a few staff here in the underground parking lot, approximately ten people would do," Celestine ordered through the phone upon realizing that it would take her a long time to find where the sound is coming from if she was to do the searching all alone.

A few minutes later, several employees arrived with flashlights on their hands on the move to find the puppy. Much to Ceestine's delight, they were able to find the poor animal alone and extremely emaciated.

The small puppy looked like it had been starving for weeks and was left alone to die. Clenching her jaws, Celestine threw stares as sharp as a dagger to the employees.

"I want you to tell me where this puppy came from. Did someone intentionally abandon this poor thing here? Find that out, as soon as possible. I want you to report to me on this day, I will be waiting in my office." Celestine picks up the very skinny puppy and bring it to her office until the veterinarian arrives to personally check it.

The people inside the huge hospital could not help but turn their heads in Celestine's direction as she makes her way up to her office while holding the puppy in her arms. She is an unbothered queen who does not give a damn if these people call her crazy.

Well, it was not a day-to-day sight to see an extremely beautiful woman wearing expensive clothes holding a hairless emaciated and full of mange puppy.

"Oh, I thought you left because you have a very important meeting to attend to?" Ava followed along Celestine on the way inside her office while making faces, quite surprised with how Celestine is acting, holding an ugly looking puppy.

Celestine carefully places the puppy on her white leather couch, not worrying whether it will get soiled by the poor animal.

"As you can see, an urgent matter came up which needs hands-on attention," Rushing, Celestine runs inside the pantry of her office to get wet dog food and water to give to the poor puppy.

Ava tilts her head while observing how in a rush Celestine is over a mere puppy, "No disrespect but you keep dog food in your pantry all this time?" she furrowed her brows while asking.

After the puppy moved to eat and drink, Celestine stares straight in Ava's questioning eyes, "There is nothing more in this world that I love so much except dogs and puppies," she speaks as a matter of fact.

While waiting for the veterinarian to arrive, Celestine decides to spare Ava a short story telling session.

Celestine narrows her eyes after she sits down on her office swivel chair, "Was I able to tell you why Ryan and I ran away from the Lim residence in the first place?" she clasps her hands together and leaned her back.

Ava flips her high ponytail and sashayed on the way to sit down on the chair across Celestine's table, "Go on, spill it." Ava grinned. She loves to hear these stories from Celestine herself because in this way, she gets to understand the reason for her deep anger towards her family.

"It was a scorching afternoon when I was walking home. Just like this day, I heard a faint puppy cry, the one that is pleading for urgent help. I found him inside a plastic bag and at that time, he was just around a few weeks old and obviously needed milk from the mother. The puppy was also emaciated and was covered in mange. Moved with pity, I decided to bring him with me to my father's house. Although I was not quite sure how they would react, I just wanted to help the poor puppy." Celestine's face contorts and her chin trembles but she stops herself from getting too emotional.

"And then, how does your evil family get into the picture?" Ava asks, rubbing her palms together.

Celestine's mouth formed into a tight-lipped smile, she sighs, "After I nursed the poor puppy back to health, I came home one day from school knowing Amira…" Celestine pauses her narrative as her voice breaks, she shuts her eyes close and exhales deeply before continuing, "Amira threw my dog the exact same way I saw him first in the streets, he was placed inside a garbage bag. I named him Barffy because of his cute bark. I was too late, the garbage was already collected by the dump truck a few hours before and probably was already thrown in the dump site," she stopped for a while as she tried to catch her breath.

"How cruel. Amira is a bitch." Ava grits her teeth and narrowed her eyes.

Calming herself down, Celestine's anger fueled up, "She is a bitch but I will show her that I still remember what she did to that poor and helpless dog" she raised her eyebrows and clenched her fists.

Later that day, the security personnel of the hospital were able to provide an in-depth report as to why the poor puppy ended up alone in the underground parking lot. As seen on the CCTV footage, a week prior there was a mother dog with five puppies who got run over by a private car. Only the poor puppy found in the parking lot survived.

Celestine adopts the puppy in an instant and makes sure she gets all the best treatment she deserves.

The next morning, Celestine receives an invitation to attend a ball hosted by the only daughter of the President of the country which will take place two days from now. Apparently, she insisted on inviting only the most accomplished and successful young people in the country. No oldies allowed as per her request.

Celestine slides the invitation away and decides to go on with her bountiful breakfast. She has always thought that attending these types of high society gatherings is such a chore, plasticity among the guests all around. To be fair, only a few possess genuine personality but are very rare to find.
