Chapter 34 - Chapter 3: The Remaining Pieces

As I woke up, I stretched my arms then looked out of the window to see the sun, aluminate the darkness I saw in the night. I looked at the holographic clock which was on the ceiling, to see I had about only half an hour to get ready and finish my breakfast.

"8:30." I said to myself. I got off my bed and it instantly made itself.

I exited my room and entered the bathroom to see nothing wet yet. "She's not up yet?" I thought to myself as I picked up a red toothbrush which was in a cup along with a purple toothbrush. I watched myself in the mirror as I brushed my teeth. I then finished brushing my teeth and then went down to make my breakfast.

"Oh, you're awake." I said as I saw Eris walk down the stairs rubbing her eye.

"Morning." Eris said, almost still asleep.

"I made breakfast."

"To make up for almost killing me last night?"

"Sure, I'll make breakfast every morning then."

"Wait...WHAT!"

"I'm joking." I said with a grin on my face.

I set the table with two plates with about five pancakes each with syrup dripping on each layer.

"That looks delicious."

"It is." I replied as I gave Eris one of the plates.

As Eris took a bite of her breakfast, I took a chair out from under the table and sat on it as I began my breakfast.

"Perfection." I thought as I took a bite of my breakfast. Bite after bite, all I could think was of how perfect it was. The pancake was surely a success today.

"How did you make this?" Eris said as she took another bite.

"Books. I read a lot of books when I tried perfecting my cooking skills."

The sweet aroma of the pancakes devoured the morning air.

"I don't think I will look at food the same anymore." Eris said as she rested her body on the sofa and looked up at the ceiling. "You should become a chef, Lexus."

"Cooking is not my strongest suit."

"Really? What else could one be good at after cooking food on that level?"

"Many things."

"Is that how you got in? You cooked for them?"

"You know that's not it."

"That was a joke."

"I know."

"We don't have much time left." Eris said, looking at the microwave's clock.

"Five minutes left." I said as I took my apron off. "Let's head out now." I said as I fixed my tie and opened the door and left the house with Eris walking at my side. We were then joined by Emilia and Diablo.

"Master."

"Diablo."

"Lexus!" Emilia called, waving her hand to indicate where she was. After a few seconds, she then finally ran up to us and jumped on me with Larissa following behind her. "Eris is your roommate?"

"Yeah." I replied,"I need more male friends right now because it probably looks as if I have a harem." I thought, looking at my three female friends.

"What class are you in?" Emilia asked, almost scared to hear the answer.

"Class S."

"CLASS S?! How?" Eris said, surprised.

"I guess I'm strong."

"They're the elite of the elite," Eris said.

"What about you guys?" I asked.

"We're all in Class A except Eris," Emilia replied.

"What class are you in then?"

"Class S."

"I guess you two are partners then." Emilia said as she smiled towards us, but I could tell she felt sadness inside.

"We'll split up here." Emilia said as she, Larissa and Diablo went off to their class.

"Bye!" Eris said as we walked off to our classes.

"Do you not like them?"

"What?...was it that obvious?" Eris said, looking down at the floor almost shamefully.

"No, I'm just good at guessing."

"Lie all you want. I don't know why, but I feel hatred for her."

"Emilia?"

"Yeah." Eris replied quietly, still looking down. "Are you gonna do anything?"

"Why should I?"

"Well, they're your friends."

"Aren't we?"

"Friends? You almost killed me last night!"

At that moment, we saw the same person who mistakenly opened our door was right next to us.

"What a coincidence," I thought.

Upon hearing what Eris said, the girl ran off in the opposite direction.

"Let's kill her," Eris suggested.

"What? No! Why would you want to kill her?"

"She might ruin my reputation."

"What reputation?"

"My life at school depends on my reputation! If she tells everyone something false, they're still gonna believe it!"

"My life at school just started here and I don't know anyone here, so you kill her if you want."

"You're not gonna stop me?"

"No."

"The bigger question is why do you have a backpack when you have spatial storage."

"It's for something else, not for storage."

"I don't think you'll tell me the real reason."

"You're learning quickly-"

We both found our path stopped by what looked like a gang.

"Oh lord, not this again," I muttered.

"State your name and rank."

"Eris Dryadilas, Complex Celestial rank."

"What! WHY ARE YOU SAYING MY NAME AND RANK! THEY WERE SPEAKING TO YOU!"

"Oh. My mistake, my name's Death."

Everyone in the back of the gang then dropped dead. The gang members watched, confused about what just happened.

"What did you do?" What looked like the leader of the gang said.

"I just killed them."

"I saw no movement."

"Because there was none at all."

Eris then looked at me as if she saw a ghost.

"No...it can't be." She thought.

"Yes, it is exactly what you think, Eris, I have Word magic."

"What!" Eris said, surprised. "Word magic? But...that's-"

"Rare? Powerful? Yes, yes it is and that means whatever I say it'll happen."

Upon hearing, the gang members tried to flee but they knew nothing of my abilities, no matter how far they are, all I need to say is,

"All but one, die." I said as I pointed to the gang leader.

The members around the gang leader dropped dead. Now he was the only one remaining as he lay down, frozen in fear in a pile of his dead comrades.

"Spare me please! I was forced! Spare me!" He begged while trying to crawl backwards, stumbling because of his comrades' dead bodies.

"Go to the forest and stay there, because after this, you will take me to your actual leader."

The gang "leader" then fled into the distance.

"Are you sure it was a good thing letting him off?"

"When did I let him off?"

"Well, he ran."

"He did run, however, he is still in my grasp. With a small flick, I could send him to the other end of existence."

"Why did you lie to the school about your rank?"

"I came here to enjoy school life in peace. What peace would I have if I had to attend tournaments?"

"So you don't want to show everyone your true abilities?"

"That is what I want."

"Are you sure I won't tell anyone?"

"Do you want to suffer?" I said.

The malice of my aura was read by Eris. I knew this because of how her facial expression changed.

"Thought so." She replied, knowing full well of my abilities now.

"Let's hurry to class." I said as I continued to proceed to the destination we were originally supposed to go before being delayed by gang members. "How much do you know about gangs?"

"The basics."

"The basics?"

"Well you know what they do and stuff."

"You'll see what they really are after."

"I don't want to go, I prefer being in this school."

"I didn't give you a choice."

"Of course you didn't."

Eris was now already getting used to being left with no choice but to follow me.

The way gangs work in this world is: they rule a certain area where they have claimed their territory, like a normal where they also work like business corporations as well. They trade with other gangs with territory and members and the end goal is to have the most power, as power or rule is one of the most important things to live in this society, however you want.

As I entered the building, I was approached by the teacher by the name of Lamia. Lamia told Eris to go on without me as I had business to attend with her. I took precautions for about everything that could happen today, so I was prepared.

"Let's take a walk," Lamia suggested as soon as Eris was out of sight.

"Sure." I replied as we started our stroll around the academy.

"Lexus, I don't know what you are intending to do, but I know when someone tries to hide their abilities, so my question is to you is, why?"

Lamia asked a very strong question as to what it would look like to be gaining the upper hand. However, she was against someone who knew fully aware of what could happen.

"Why, you ask? Well, my answer to that is simple: I want to live my school life in peace, but if this school tries to strip my freedom I will tear this school down to its last atoms, including the ones who live here." I replied.

"From your answer it's safe to say you're not joking. I have another question-"

"Forget the questions you are going to ask me, my question to you is why did you bring me out here?" I replied, interrupting Lamia.

With this, I have put Lamia on the spot. She is probably either thinking whether she should expose her true intentions or should she cover it up with a lie, but when I try to expose that lie she will lie twice, each backing each other making her lie truly believable, but this trick would not work with me.

"The answer to your question is also simple-to become close with you. Before you ask, I want to be close with you because, unlike the other students, you are an exceptionally rare genius."

She has complimented me, so she is trying a minor manipulative skill which would work to get anyone to do minor things, but her train of thought is not like that. She is trying minor manipulative skills to eventually get me into her palms. In short words, she is a patient being who wants everything to go their way, even if it takes a lifetime or two.

"I appreciate the compliment and I'll do the same: I'll try to become close with you, but in a professional way, I can't see why there cannot be benefits for both of us."

I made a blunder somewhere. Yesterday. She caught on something. She knows something and she is trying to figure out if it's true, but I need to know what it is. She seems to have realised my connection with the so-called "Devil Prince" and she is now using that as evidence for her assumptions.

"I guess there can be benefits for the both of us. I agree with the professional relationship so how about we have a deal where, whenever anyone of us do a favour for the other, the other person is indebted to the other." Lamia suggested, as she took out her hand, waiting for me to shake it as a form of acceptance to the terms and conditions.

"Deal then." I said as I placed my hand into hers, but I was foolish.

"Checkmate." She said as she flipped my hand so that the bottom of my arm could be seen. The numbers 002 could be seen marked on my hand just a few centimetres away from the palm. "002?"

"It's just a thing I used to do with my brother when we were young." I said as I tried to cover up the real reason, but it was futile as Lamia could see right through my lies.

"You have a brother?"

She is going along because she knows I am lying. However, she is using this opportunity for more evidence or she is trying to find out pieces of my life with the details I will give and by piecing those together she can find what she is seeking for.

"Yeah, my older brother...he died when I was eleven." I said as I looked down to the floor, trying to hide the sadness on my face.

"I'm so sorry." She said, trying to comfort me.

"It's no big deal."

"Well, I'm sorry for asking, Lexus, if you need anything, you can come to me."

"Sure." I said as I looked at her with a smile.

I admit, I underestimated her intelligence. However, this is not something beyond my abilities. With my observations, I can now conclude that Lamia is now trying to manipulate me. However, I am not going to let that happen as I am a genius with an unfathomable amount of intellect and I also have exceptional strength, physically and mentally, and I have more magical affinity with my elements than people who have lived my lifetime many times over.

"I'll go now." I said to Lamia as I took my leave.

"Wait." I stopped and listened to what Lamia would suggest. "Let me go with you."

"Okay then," I said.

Lamia led me to the class but she also had other things on her mind. I can tell that the only reason why she is spending time with me whenever she gets the chance is only to manipulate me so I will be her slave.

"This kid hasn't even realised I could read his thoughts, it's only a matter of time before he's in my control. All I need to do is let him think as he is now without raising any suspicion. With this, I could finally have what I've wanted. A powerful pawn like Lexus is not something that should be in his hands. In my rule he will be even more powerful," Lamia thought, as she planned more things for her plan.

I finally saw the door which I had waited so long to open.

"Allow me." Lamia said as she opened the door for me.

As I entered the class, I immediately caught everyone's attention. They all looked at me with mixed feelings. Judging me as they watched and scanned me. Many students started muttering amongst themselves. There were about four columns of desks all leading up at an incline. There were about two students at each desk. Lamia then went to a desk which was placed in the front of the class, exactly in the middle of the class. As she approached the desk, she slammed a thick book with a hard cover on the desk, silencing the students. As the students fell silent, Lamia finally began speaking.

"He is your new classmate and will be your classmate for however long he wishes to be in this school and, whether you like it or not, you will work and cooperate with each other no matter who you are with. Now Lexus, would you like to introduce yourself." Lamia said in a serious voice, not like the slightly gentle voice she spoke when we were alone.

"My name is Lexus Novel Arnoux, I am an assassin decuria and my magical elements are blood and shadow and my rank is Complex Dimensional"

"A dual elementalist and a Complex Dimensional Rank?" A male voice said.

"Yes, I am a dual elementalist and it isn't that rare when you think about it, there should be about 60-120 within this school."

I looked at Eris who was sitting by the window at the penultimate desk on the far right side of the class. I could tell she was thinking something along the lines of,

"Sure." In sarcasm as she looked outside of the window.

"He's strong on top of having two elements."

"If anyone has any questions, you can ask me later, but overall, I hope we can all get along." I said as I smiled towards the students.

"Please take a seat, Lexus, next to Eris Dryadilas," Lamia said, as she already started writing on the holographic board.

I then walked up to where Eris sat and sat next to her. Although she did seem to mind, I didn't care as long as this was beneficial to me.

"Can I ask a question, Eris?"

"What?" Eris said, annoyed.

"Is there a class beyond this?"

"You don't know?"

"If I asked, then obviously I didn't."

"Well yeah, they're called Class Null. They're way beyond normal classes, even us, the elite."

"I thought so."

I then thought my plans through, evaluating them to see if I would make another blunder as the lesson carried on.

"The remaining pieces are yet to be found." I said to myself.
