A little kid with a height as half of Khalid could be seen wandering around the forest near the tents where it was placed; she always had this nalgas-colored hair that was braided on both sides like a pony.
Every step she took was like the tiptoe of an 18-month-old baby who was learning how to walk; it was so small and clumsy, a perfect example of an 8-year-old kid.
"BOO!"
Lily exclaimed as she peeked behind the trees and bushes, but she always ended up with disappointment. It's been an hour now, but she couldn't still find the person she was looking for—or was it a dead person that could not be seen anymore? ...
"Uhm, D—did anyone see my papa?"
She bravely even asked the knights around, but they just looked at each other and shook their heads with such an elegiac expression.
"She's still so young. What a pity."
They even murmured at each other as soon as she turned her back on them.
Well, she could hear all their buzzing as they wiped their weapons, but she just shrugged it all off and pretended as if she did not hear a thing.
"How could they leave an adorable kid alone?"
After hearing it, Lily stopped and turned her head at them, but they just pretended as if nothing had happened.
Therefore, she could feel anxious; she did not even have time to look at where she was walking; she was completely dazed when she bumped into someone without her even noticing.
"ACK!"
Her butt fell to the ground while touching her forehead after bumping into someone.
When she looked up to find out who that person was, her jaw almost dropped. Seeing a kid who was twice her height with a solemn look and captivating beauty made her heart almost skip a beat.
"B-brother! I'm glad to see you here."
Lily gets up immediately in a hurry; she could feel her heart racing in shock when she hurriedly walks past him, looking so stiff.
But even though she took a hundred steps away, she was still two feet apart from him.
'What is this kid even doing here? '
His stare gives her goosebumps; she doesn't even dare to face him bravely.
When she tried to take a step like a robot, Khalid spoke to her with a nonchalant tone.
His voice was as thick as a brick of ice, which made her feel chilly.
"Won't you ask me?"
Khalid stated.
Instead of facing her, he chose not to look at her, because even though his eyes were back to how they were supposed to be, his murderous aura could even chase a ghost away.
Lily's feet froze when she heard him speak; she didn't even have time to answer and just turned to him, looking so perplexed.
"Won't you ask me where your parents are?"
That's when Lily comes to a realization and talks to him without a chance of getting stuttered. He doesn't even know if she just talks that way normally or if she is intimidated without him doing anything.
"Ah… "
She faced the ground as she hesitated to speak.
"B-brother, have you seen them?"
Lily slowly lifted her head just to face Khalid's back.
'Well, I guess not either.'
She thought as she waited for his reply, but instead of getting a proper answer, Khalid stated something logically that reminded her of her father.
"Hey kiddo, do you believe that you could find the things you were looking for if you gave up looking for it?"
At first, Lily was unaware of what he was saying, but because of her curiosity, she incautiously asked a question that contradicted his words.
"But what if the thing you were looking for is no longer here in this world? What would you do, brother?"
She asked.
Khalid then turned his head on her and faced Lily properly with those solemn eyes.
"What about you?"
He paused for a second.
"What would you do, Lily?"
He questioned.
Now, looking back at earlier, instead of feeling intimidated or scared by Khalid, Lily started to feel relaxed and calm, even though she had been staring into his bleak eyes for a while.
"Then I would try to find it patiently; even though that thing no longer exists, I could always find some traces left behind to prove that it once existed."
She answered so confidently, but it just made Khalid turn his back away and slowly walk in the distance while his hands rested on his back.
"Your parents…"
He suddenly stopped.
"Do you want to know where they went?"
With his words, Lily's face gleamed with a smile, even though emotions failed to reach his soul and heart. Khalid knows the feeling of false hope that was coated with lies.
She was even happy to follow him from behind, hoping that she would be welcomed with such warmth, but instead of facing two people she loved, Lily's face was unable to be painted.
Her feet were glued to the ground while she was staring at a mountain of soil and dirt in front of her that was even displayed with a perfectly carved tomb, and it was also covered in a protected spell that was surrounding the place with flowers and grass; it's as if no war had happened in that place.
The last thing she knows is that she is standing in front of the graveyard with the names of her parents.
"Eh?... Why can't I see them?"
Her eyes suddenly become so blurry that she doesn't have time to blink.
"B-brother, why can't I see them?"
She asked, but no one answered.
When she thought that Khalid just stayed silent, he wasn't even there by her side when she looked up, and that's when tears began to stream down her cheeks ceaselessly.
"WAH! I shouldn't cry. I should not be crying. P-please, please, let this sadness disappear!"
She mourned as she burst into tears. Even though she repeatedly recited the orison a thousand times, she didn't have the ability to bring them back to life.
Minutes passed, and it turned into an hour until the sun decided to take a rest, but Khalid just waited for her, patiently standing behind the tree near the grave, where Lily could be heard wailing in deep sorrow. Even though he could not feel such emotions, a familiar sense of scintilla was always buried deep in his mind.
Khalid may also seem to be as cold as ice, but he wishes for a bolide from above that could at least give the kid a little warmth as the rustling leaves from the calm breeze make Lillibet shiver while kneeling on the ground.
But still, there was always this question that lingered in his mind. A question that he has always been waiting to be answered by someone.
"Could it be worth wishing for? To wish upon something that is falling?"
He asked himself while looking at the sky, where bolide could be seen falling from above: could it even hear his wishes? If it is, then how could no one still save him from the dark?
