Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

DIANE had been sending him text messages which he'd made sure to reply to. She'd told him she was busy when he tried to call her and said it was best to chat via texts for now, which he gratefully agreed to. He still hadn't told her that he was attacked.

Roxanne tried to contact him. He never really got the chance to refuse her calls or even accept them, because Sapphire wouldn't let him; she'd get mad. He never understood why she was so mad till she asked him how he'd feel if her ex reached out to her, then he felt uncomfortable. It was the mate thing, he decided.

If he'd explained everything to Roxanne, would she understand? Would she believe him? Why was he even thinking about her and whether she'd believe him?

Timothy sighed as they waited in Sapphire's car--from the house, it's obvious that she's rich--for Rowen to come out. Sapphire claimed not to trust him and demanded that they'd go somewhere else to talk. As long as it wouldn't make her more mad, he agreed.

"How did you and The Oracle meet?" He asked after silently glancing at her and the moon mark on her arm.

"Through my dreams," she answered.

He totally forgot that that's how he met her too.

"Did she hurt you?" He asked.

She snorted. "Why on earth would she do that?"

So, maybe she really didn't lie when she said his pain was all because of the full moon then.

"Anything else?"

"Like?"

"Did she mention me? That is, apart from saying you have a mate."

She smiled as she answered, reaching out to touch his hand, "Not really. But she didn't need to. She only mentioned that mates have the same mark and mates are rare blah blah. The mate stuff was enough for me, I've been single for too long."

He didn't push her hand away. Instead, he instinctively held on as he asked, "Why do you hate them?"

Sapphire didn't even ask who he was talking about as she replied straight forwardly, "They're terrible people."

"I don't think Rowen is though," he said, his grip strong on her hand as he tried to convince her. "He and his mother helped me when The Oracle was appearing in my dreams. They said they'd help me know more about my parents if I gave a bit of my blood--"

"Thank God you didn't," she said.

Timothy opened his mouth to say more when they heard a knock on the window, so the conversation had to end. It was Rowen in all his glory. He was excited as usual and that made him smile. It was weird how he all of a sudden, trusted Rowen when they barely knew each other. Everything was just weird.

Rowen entered the backseat as he greeted cheerfully, "Hey, guys!"

"I'm a lady."

"Lady," Rowen said in amusement.

Timothy would've put Rowen and Sapphire in the same category because of their happy-go-lucky attitude. But so far, she seemed only touchy and happy with him, and polite or indifferent with others. He remembered that at the party there was a girl called Faith that was with her, but she didn't seem to be interested in calling or texting anyone. All she did was watch a movie, eat and go to her garden. Now that he'd seen it, Rowen who introduced them then, wasn't even close to her. He really wanted to hear her story now.

Sapphire started the car after threatening to cause Rowen bodily harm if he tried anything funny. They drove to a bar. She said she knew the place and the owner well so the drinks and ambience were good. Timothy had thought that they'd drive  to her house, but since it was obvious that she didn't trust Rowen, and she probably felt that anyone knowing her place would be a problem, he didn't say anything in protest. Timothy kind of wondered why she was so hostile now and not then at the party. There must be some reason. The curiosity was killing him but she couldn't ask her now.

They sat down comfortably in a booth with Sapphire and Timothy sitting side-by-side and Rowen facing them. He gave them an open teeth smile before saying something.

"Mom found something concerning your family."

That piqued Timothy's interest and Sapphire's suspicion. He wondered if the information would be similar to the one he'd been told by his sister. Diane, in not so many words, told him he was unique but that didn't tell him much. He appreciated the other little information, but it wasn't enough. The necklace was efficient for the time he had it, but now it was useless. He really shouldn't have ever had it anyway, something told him he'd still have been in trouble with or without it.

"Wait," Timothy said. "I didn't give you guys my blood."

"No, you didn't. But you did give the names of your parents. So it's recorded in the Book of the Supernaturals."

Timothy frowned. "The book of what now?"

Rowen laughed at his expression. "It's where the bloodline of every single supernatural that ever existed is recorded. Not by us though, but by something that up till now, no one can understand."

"Where's the book?" Sapphire asked, surprising the two. She looked interested. "Is his name there? Are our names there?"

They were interrupted by a waitress serving them their drinks. With a smile, Rowen took a sip and looked at the two of them.

"The book is in the mansion. And, yes, all our names are there."

"What did you find?" Timothy asked, ignoring the uneasy feeling he found as he heard that the book was in the hands of the Mavericks. It was just a book of names; there's nothing to be worried about.

"Your mother wasn't a normal vampire."

There was a bit of silence before Timothy responded, "But she's a vampire, right?"

"Yes. But very unusual."

"My sister said it was a witch who helped in me being into existence." He didn't know why he relayed that information.

"Well... Something tells me that the witch didn't do much."

Rowen's information didn't do much. Nah, it didn't do anything to dispel his curiosity about his life. He wanted to know what was so unusual about his mother. He felt like that information would make him understand things better.

"Your alpha. What did she have to say? Did she know about Timothy earlier? Did she know he was going to be attacked?"

"You're a witch like me, aren't you?" Rowen said, pointedly at Sapphire. "Though I prefer the word warlock."

"Answer me," Sapphire ordered.

"What's your deal with Timothy anyway?" Rowen asked, ignoring her hostility. "Didn't you just fuck? I thought that was it; a one-night stand. Now you're just..."

"Just answer the question," Timothy said.

He didn't feel like telling Rowen that they were mates. Did he know though, and was just pretending? Seeing as he said there was a book... But he didn't say what the exact contents were though. Timothy really needed to get that book. He needed to see for himself, to confirm that Rowen wasn't intentionally keeping something from him despite his smiles. Maybe it was instinctive, but he didn't want anyone to know. He hadn't known Rowen for long... heck, anyone...

He looked at the two. He was just relying on his whim here.

Rowen sighed. "She said she knew earlier about someone like him and was curious but didn't know it was Timothy. He didn't look the part... Maybe she expected something different? Now, about the attacks... She said she had a feeling but--"

Sapphire snorted. "What a lying bitch."

"You must really not like her," Rowen said, not offended by her words. It almost looked like he agreed in a way.

"So she tried to contact Timothy but he wouldn't pick up," he continued. He closed his eyes now, resting his face in his palms as he rubbed his jaw for a while before focusing on Timothy, serious. "I'm sorry."

"I didn't know anything like this would happen, and I guess I ignored the hostile looks the twins kept giving you because I assumed the alpha wouldn't let any harm come unto you." He gave a small smile. "I know we haven't been roommates long. Not even friends...but I do see you as one, and I would never participate in hurting you."

"It's alri--"

"It's not, but at least you can apologize. Next up, the whole pack," Sapphire spoke. "That last part will never happen though, because they either want him alive but under them or..."

"Dead," Rowen finished.

Timothy could no longer feel the hostility that Sapphire had a while ago. It was like it never existed. And her and Rowen were looking at each other and speaking like they were friends. It was weird. It was also weird that he realized that he hadn't said anything yet. He was literally the person they were talking about!

"I have a feeling that this has nothing to do with Timothy being with me that night; this was just an excuse."

"Unfortunately, I think you're right," Rowen said. "They weren't even dating so I don't get it."

"Right? I mean, she's such a cold-hearted and nonchalant bitch and I am wonderful." She glanced at Timothy. "I really wonder what you even saw in her."

"Whatever you say," Rowen laughed good-naturedly.

"I wonder why you're a member of her pack anyway. You don't seem to support them," Sapphire said with a smile on her face, but it didn't reach her eyes. "You're not a werewolf; you're of witch blood."

"Yeah."

Rowen's eyes gave out nothing, neither did his face. That made Timothy understand that something else was going on that he had no idea of.

Sapphire knew something though. She definitely did.
