Chereads / MOONRISE (ON HIATUS) / Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

IT was another full moon.

Timothy was starting to get irritated by the whole full moon thing. How many times were full moons supposed to occur anyway?

At this point he just wanted to get it over with. Even if he dies. Yes, he'd given up at the thought of going through pain again, and meeting The Oracle. She'd said his powers were awakening but he didn't feel any different.

Maya had said not to go outside and to stay inside with her and Rowen, and a few others he didn't know, because the werewolves roamed freely during full moons and were usually the most powerful during this time, and very aggressive.

She didn't have to tell him twice though, because he immediately agreed.

"Can you give me an answer to something?" he asked while lying quietly on the floor.

"Go ahead, child," Maya  said, standing up with some bowls in hand.

"Why am I not scared?" he asked. "I've just discovered that the supernatural world is real, so why am I not shivering in fear? Why haven't I runaway yet?"

Maya paused her activities. She was thoughtful for a moment before she answered, "Maybe because subconsciously, you knew? Or it's something that has to do with your bloodline." She continued, "I actually didn't probe you much because I didn't want you screaming and running out of here, in case it triggers you. It'd lead you into more danger, really."

Timothy nodded. It was unlikely that he'd ever do that. "Have you found anything yet?"

He meant, about his parents.

"Not yet. I'll get your blood samples though, and that of your sister's--if she's willing--and do my research with the experts. But for now..." She'd finished pouring the white powders he saw in the bowl on the floor, drawing something, and was now sitting on the floor, "...close your eyes, Timothy," she commanded.

He did as he was told.

He heard her mumbling some words to herself and didn't bother to question it. He didn't know anything about witchcraft and probably still wouldn't even if taught. He was putting his trust in her that she wasn't planning on doing anything to him since he was a total stranger. Or was he just too trustworthy that he--

"Relax your mind, Timothy," he heard. "Your thoughts are everywhere."

It sounded like a funny thing to say because despite not being too terrified at the thought of meeting a dangerous being, who might kill him if he doesn't do what she wants, and who probably knows everything that's happened while he was here, he'd just remembered that he could be hurt while in a strange land. Jesus.

He suddenly felt sleepy and he said so.

"The herbs I gave you to drink earlier must be kicking in then."

"The full moon doesn't make me feel pain like the last two times," he muttered.

"That's good news."

"Am I going to turn into a werewolf?" he asked.

He heard a laugh as he felt himself loosing total consciousness.

"I think you being a hybrid means you can turn at will. At least, that's what I read."

"And it means you can control your bloodlust as a vampire. How cool is that?"

His eyes snapped open to meet green ones.

It was her, The Oracle!

She was standing in front of him, smiling .

"Your eyes are quite remarkable, you know," she said. "If you were with me, I would make sure everyone knew about such power. Your parents were quite disappointing in that aspect. But I get it, it's love."

Timothy felt his eyes twitch. "You knew my parents?"

She chuckled. "Do you even know how old I am? The people sheltering you now didn't tell you?"

"What exactly do you want?"

"For the longest time, I'd never been able to get to you through your dreams or through any means. Thankfully, whatever stopped me isn't around anymore."

Timothy's mind briefly went to his sister. Was it her she was talking about?

"What exactly is your plan? What do you want to do with me?"

She giggled. "Shh...it's a secret."

Timothy was annoyed. "But wasn't that what you wanted to tell me last time? The reason you're in my dreams?"

She shrugged. "Sure. But I changed my mind." She stood up. "I planned on killing you, yes, but you being alive makes more sense. I can't risk ruining time. I'd assume that the Mavericks... Westleys have told you a lot about me, which is probably not the whole truth, but it doesn't matter, just know... You're important for a lot of things."

"A lot of things?"

"You'll know soon enough." She smiled. "When you meet who you're meant to meet, I'll come to you then."

"Then how--"

"I won't visit you in your dreams for a while and there won't be any more full moons... well, not as frequent," she said. "Werewolves don't really need the full moon to turn anyway. And, you're a hybrid so you can't get burned by the sun like the vampires. You'll be fine." She paused. "I don't really need to do much, anyway, you'll make the right decisions yourself."

"You can't just--"

She raised a hand. "But know that a lot of people aren't helping you just to protect you. You're going to be in for a rollercoaster. Better get prepared with some fighting skills." She leaned to whisper into his ear, "I'd advise you not to say anything about this little warning. Or... I'll just make you forget it then."

"Why--

She grinned mischievously. "See you around, hybrid."

He woke up, heaving.

He heard gasps, then Maya asking, "What happened?" He felt her touching his face.

"Nothing," he answered, eyes closing because of exhaustion. "Absolutely nothing."
