"What do you want?" Hannah asked. Since she couldn't kill him now, she had to make sure he does not get her in trouble. "How about we start all over? My name is Hannah". "
No last name?" Axel asked.
" No last name, just Hannah". Hannah said in response.
" Okay then, you can leave now. I will be expecting you tomorrow, you are now my secretary, and as I said earlier, my schedules would be e-mailed to you. Don't even think about pulling Off any tricks or else….." Axel drawled as he raised the annunciator, letting her know the consequences if she tried anything funny.
Hannah stood up and started walking towards the door of the office when she heard his voice again, "Make sure you take off your disguise when you come to work tomorrow, I want to see the face of the person I would be working with". Hannah didn't answer and walked out of the office, slamming the door with a loud bang.
'Shit'. She cursed as she walked through the large corridors enclosed by white walls. She was so confused. This has never happened to her. How did the tables turn? She should have killed him the moment she saw him, but she got distracted by his handsome face instead. She was so frustrated. She had to finish off her target but she couldn't because of that sly fox.
***In the office***
Axel was still in his seat as he looked to be in deep thought while rotating the annunciator in his hand, "I wonder if she knows her, I would have to wait till tomorrow". He murmured to himself. He stood up from his seat and walked to the wall on his right. He pushed a spot on the wall and a small rectangular space opened, revealing a small safe. He typed in a code and the safe opened. He brought out a piece of paper. The paper had a drawing of a little girl, which he drew himself. The lower part of her face was covered by a mask and only her eyes could be seen. Her hair was tied in a ponytail, with several unruly strands falling on her face. Axel ran his fingers through the paper. He had been searching for her for years now and he hopes that the assassin he caught today would be able to help him find her.
He was not a fool to keep an assassin close to him. All he wanted was her help. If she helps him and he is satisfied, he will let her go, if not, he will just have to get rid of her especially since an assassin without an annunciator is just prey in the eyes of other assassins.
As Hannah walked in the streets, she kept thinking about what had happened earlier. She couldn't believe that she had been caught up in this kind of a mess. It has been two hours since she left the company and it is almost twilight. She could have easily boarded a taxi home, but she loves to feel the sky over her as well as the wind blowing on her exposed skin and hair. While she walked, she saw a bunch of kids running from one lamp post to another and listened to their excited giggles. But looking at them seemed to have made something ring in her head, but she couldn't figure out what it was. She shrugged it off and continued walking. When she was already a few blocks away from her apartment, she saw a little girl crying in her mother's arms.
'Penelope!' she screamed in her head as she remembered the six years old child that was now in her apartment. She thought several things at a time and could already feel a headache coming on. "Oh God, what do I do?" She asked herself as she hastened her footsteps. Some seconds later, she picked up her pace and started to run. Luckily, she was only a few blocks away so she reached her apartment on time.
She quickly searched for her keys, and when she found them, she quickly opened the door and got inside in a rush. Immediately she got in, she went straight to her bedroom and saw little Penelope curled up on the bed. She quickly rushed to the bed when she heard a slight moan from the child. "What happened Penelope, are you alright?" Hannah asked. She placed the back of her palm on Penelope's forehead to see if she was running a fever, but her temperature was normal. Hannah breathed out in relief. She would not be able to bear it if the child falls ill due to her negligence. Penelope struggled to sit up on the bed. When she was finally seated her first reaction was to jump away from Hannah. Hannah didn't know what made her react like that until she heard a small voice asking,
"Who are you? Where is Auntie?" Hannah suddenly remembered that she was still wearing her disguise, she rushed into the bathroom to take off the disguise and wash her face. Went she came out of the bathroom, Penelope saw her face and finally relaxed but she was still confused. "Aunt what happened? Do you have two faces?". The child asked.
Hannah just placed her hands on Penelope's small shoulders and said, " Something like that, but this is my actual face, I just use the other one when I am going out". When Hannah finished talking, Penelope's stomach grumbled loudly, and the child said " I'm hungry". Hannah suddenly realised that Penelope had not eaten since the time of the morning. She has not eaten anything also, and she doesn't even know how to cook. She wasn't even sure if there was anything in her small freezer that would be enough for both of them.
Another loud growl from Penelope's stomach brought her back to reality. "I am sorry for not getting you something to eat, Penelope". She started. "Tell me what you would like to eat and I will get it prepared for you immediately okay?" Penelope's eyes slightly widened in excitement.
"I want.to eat egg noodles". Penelope said but a frown came and settled on Hannah's face. She didn't know what that was but she had already promised Penelope that she would make anything she wants.
"Okay, Penelope, I would make it right away". She stood up and made her way to the kitchen. She quickly took out her phone and searched "ingredients for making egg noodles". When she saw the ingredients, she made her way to the refrigerator but when she opened it, the refrigerator was empty except for a gallon of milk. Hannah didn't know what to do. She just went back to the room, where the girl was still curled up in bed but quickly sat up when she heard her footsteps. "Um…Penelope, there is nothing in the house to make do with, so how about we go out". Hannah suggested and Penelope quickly came down from the bed and walked to Hannah's side.
"Okay aunty, let's go, I'm really hungry".
