Chapter 11 - Masked girl

Three hours later, Axel walked out of the office with Hannah and Camden trailing behind him. They had just come out of the conference room and it was clear that they were very exhausted. At least both Camden and Hannah were tired from the expression on their faces but Axel looked like he was ready to go through another three hours of conference meetings. As they walked Hannah grumbled under her breath. She was so silent in the conference room even though she was fully prepared and she caught Axel giving her looks with those cold eyes of his. Thankfully Camden was there so they didn't face any major issues.

They soon reached the cubicle that was in front of Axel's office. She walked to her cubicle and was about to sit when she heard Axel's voice, "My office, now". She knew it. She knew that he was going to berate her for being silent throughout the meeting. She couldn't believe that she was going to get another punishment, that too, on her first day.

She walked into the office and stood in front of him with her eyes on the floor, waiting for her punishment to be passed unto her but she heard him say, "come, sit over here". She took her seat in front of him and gave him a confused look, she didn't understand why he was asking her to sit when he was going to punish her.

"I want to show you something". He said and brought out the piece that contained the drawing of the girl. "Do you know who this is?" He stared at her face, trying to see her every reaction but found nothing except confusion written over her face. It seems like she had no idea.

Hannah looked at the drawing of the girl and was extremely confused. The drawing was well-detailed and vivid but she was wearing a mask. How on earth was she supposed to identify someone who had the lower part of her face hidden by a mask with only her eyes visible? It seems this CEO has some screws loose in his head. "I don't know who this is. The lower half of her face is covered and it will be difficult to identify her". Hannah said and was about to say something else when " Leave my office and go to your work" Axel said. He was displeased and Hannah didn't know why. She just stood up without a word and left the office relieved that the CEO did not punish her for being silent in the conference meeting. When she got to her cubicle, her face fell. She still had to go through the stack of documents on her desk, but in the next second, her eyes blazed with determination as she sat on her seat and started reading the documents on her table.

Some hours later, when she was almost done with the documents, a red light on the telephone system on her table started flashing. She didn't know what it was, so she ignored it and continued reading the documents. Seconds later, she felt dangerous energy nearby and she turned alarmed. She turned her head sideways and saw the CEO standing by the door of his office, glaring daggers at her. No wonder she suddenly felt threatened. He walked towards her cubicle and when he got to her he asked "why didn't you respond when I called?" Hannah got confused, when did he call her? She had been sitting in one position the whole time and she didn't hear anyone call her. Could it be that she was so focused on the documents that her brain dulled down the sounds around her? She quickly stood up, "Sorry sir, I didn't hear when you called". She explained to him.

Axel just stared at her. He had forgotten the reason he came to her cubicle. Those eyes have been occupying his mind since the time he saw them. He didn't even know he had stared at her longer than normal till he saw her snapping her fingers to get his attention. "Sir?" She called out and he quickly arranged his features and went back to his cold self. "This thing on your desk," he said, pointing to the telephone machine on her desk, "Anytime you see the red light on it flashing, it's a call from me, so immediately you see it, come to my office. Do you understand?" He asked to see her nodding. "Good, now come to my office". He said and walked away with long strides into his office. Hannah felt irritated by his attitude. Couldn't he just tell her what he wanted her to do when he was standing in front of her? She closed the file and went into his office where he was already seated. " You called for me?" She spoke when he didn't say anything after she entered the office. Thankfully, as if waiting for her to speak first, he spoke the next second "Yes. Since you are now my personal Secretary, I need your contact information, a valid one this time. You dropped invalid contact information on your interview profile which was why my assistant was unable to contact you when you didn't show up earlier today. I also need your residential address so that anytime you don't come to the office early, I will personally send my men to drag you out of your apartment. I know you are not staying with the rest of the gang, and that's why you are still alive, even without your Annunciator. You can leave it at the reception desk before you leave. Starting tomorrow, anytime you come to the company, you must come to my office, so I can be certain that you are present, and you must come to my office to inform me before you leave. Just think of it as a way of you signing in and signing out". Hannah nodded continuously without a word and just listened to what Axel was saying. After a few minutes of dishing out instructions to her, he dismissed her for the day. Finally! She was going home, away from this company and its crazy CEO. She went to her desk and cleared all the documents that had been stacked on it since the time of the morning. She picked up her bag and left the company. She felt so free. She hasn't felt like this for as long as she knows. She didn't even feel like this when Raymond allowed her to leave the basement. Throughout her time in the office, she had been walking on pins and needles to make sure that she didn't offend the CEO and now that she was out of the company, she was feeling so great. She decided to take a taxi so she could hurry back home to Penelope. Some minutes later, she arrived at her apartment and used her keys to open the door. The first thing she noticed was that her living room looked very neat. She always keeps her apartment neat but she didn't today because she had to rush to the company. She walked to the kitchen and met it extremely neat, maybe neater than the way she leaves it. She remembered that the kitchen was messed up before she left for the company. Surely Penelope couldn't have done this. She heard sounds of laughter from her room and when she got into her room, she saw Penelope holding a tablet and next to her was Raymond who was pointing to different things on the tablet.
