Chapter 11 - Chapter X: Affection

Deity's POV

It's already past ten in the evening and I'm already preparing for bed. Lev's not home yet, as usual, and we barely had time for each other these past few days. I only see him during breakfast and lunch. I'm already asleep when he comes home. I hate the damn schedule but I cannot force him to give me some of his time since, well, we are not in any romantic relationship so I have no right. In addition, what he's doing is also for the both of us. The faster we sever our ties from Mayor Tyrone Pierce, the more we can relax.

"It's already late, the man has not returned yet." Flavia sat on my night stand, turning the pages of a particular book she got from the library.

I sighed and nodded, "You're right. Even though I want to wait for him, I'm exhausted. I had to finish editing three books on due." Leaving the comfort of my bed, I stood to turn off the lights. "Will you be able to read when it's dark?"

"Don't mind me," she smiled so I just shrugged, turning the lights off.

I froze when a loud howl, almost close to the house, broke the still night air. "Was that a wolf?" I asked. Flavia nodded dismissively.

Well, a lone wolf is merely a threat.

My jaw dropped when few loud howls echoed one after another. A lone wolf's okay, but a pack of them is not exactly a good thing. Especially this close to us!

"Don't worry, they don't come close to the mansion... usually." She had the audacity to wink at me.

I glared as I saw her grin mischievously from the moonlight's glow. "Whatever," I slipped under the covers and waited for her to vacate the place before closing my eyes. I heard another loud howl and looked around to find an open window. The full moon's glow seeped through and lit a portion of the room. I debated with myself whether to close the window or not, in the end I left it open, enjoying the slightly cold breeze sweeping in.

I dozed off, occassionally hearing howls of wolves running through the forest not far from my home. The same forest Lev might currently be in. I hope not.

I stirred when I heard heavy footsteps coming towards my bed. I looked around and my gaze fell on the silhouette of a man by the open window.

My groggy mind registered the threat level and I jumped off the bed with a yelp, flicking the lights on only to come face to face with a shirtless and sweating Lev. He's already in front of me looking strangely hopeful.

Damn, I thought I was gonna die.

"Lev!" I exclaimed, "What are you doing here?! You scared me to death! Just because I can see ghosts doesn't mean I don't get scared." My heart's about to explode into tiny bits.

"I'm sorry," he said, eyes wide. "Your door's locked and you we're asleep, I didn't want to wake you up."

"For what?" I asked confused.

His expression fell, looking dejected. "We didn't get to spend time with each other today, like all the other days. I t-thought..." He stopped then sighed, "I missed you."

Holy guacamole.

I opened and closed my mouth like a dying fish, unable to say anything. It's already past midnight, so says my clock, but I think I'm still dreaming.

Lev missed me? And he's here to... make up for it?

It's hard to believe, especially since no one's ever done that for me before. I don't think anyone want to spend time with me, not even my family and relatives. They're more comfortable without my presence. Now a person, a guy, wanted to be with me.

When I still didn't say anything, he shrugged, turning his back to me and walking towards my bed.

"I just want to be with you. So I used your window."

My disbelief and shock melted at the thought of him feeling rejected. I know the feeling, and I'll never wish that feeling on anyone. Ever.

I grew up getting used to it, making it hard to trust anyone.

I smiled softly, dragging myself towards the bed and curling beside him who immediately wrapped his arms around me. "You should've woken me up."

He buried his face in my hair, inhaling softly. "I know you're tired, and I'm sorry for freaking you out. Thought I could sneak in undetected."

I laughed at that, "I was already on edge before I slept. I heard the wolves howling and I thought they'll come and barge in."

He chuckled, "Looks like a lone wolf got you." He growled lowly, moving his face closer to mine. "Boo." He grinned, before capturing my lips and kissing me softly.

I stared wide-eyed into his dilated pupils at first, then I closed my eyes and savored the kiss. I encircled my arms around his neck, pulling him impossibly closer and the sparks kept erupting underneath my skin. I pulled away, gasping for air to fill my lungs. He seemed alive and excited, raining tiny kisses on my neck. His teeth graced my skin gently and the sparks doubled on that specific part. Like his fangs are meant to be there. My heartbeat amplified, deafening me momentarily.

"You really do miss me, don't you?" I giggled, cupping his face and giving him another peck on the lips.

He growled lowly, inhaling my scent once again. "So damn much."

"We should sleep now, we got a lot of things to do tomorrow." I murmured, yet still unable to break eye contact.

He groaned, before nodding and pulling me impossibly closer beside him. "Good night, boo." He whispered softly as he kissed me. I wonder what will happened if we didn't see each other for weeks?

"Good night, Mr. Boo." I giggled, enjoying his warm embrace and closing my eyes. His fingers were tracing patterns unconsciously on my shoulder down to my arm and I felt his chest weirdly vibrating with soft growls.

Not seeing each other for weeks? I think he'll never let that happen.

With that thought in mind, I slept peacefully that night knowing I'm safe and nothing's gonna hurt me.
